00:00Syrians who returned to their homes after years of displacement were preparing on Friday
00:07to celebrate Eid al-Fitr for the first time since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
00:13Muslims begin Eid celebrations on Sunday, marking the end of the holy fasting month
00:18of Ramadan.
00:19Many of those who came back to their villages in Idlib's southern countryside now live
00:24in tents among the rubble of their destroyed homes.
00:27Despite living in sparse conditions with his children and grandchildren in Talma's town,
00:3265-year-old Hassan al-Ahmad says this Eid will mark two feasts instead of one.
00:40This is the first Eid in this village, and it's like we're celebrating Eid, because we
00:46returned to our land and homeland, and the second Eid is Eid al-Farha, Eid for all Muslims.
00:52Many local residents, like al-Ahmad, preferred to return home than remain displaced along
00:58the Syrian-Turkish border, despite their houses being destroyed during the war and a lack
01:03of basic services.
01:04I've been deprived of Eid for five years.
01:05This is the first Eid that comes back to me.
01:06And God willing, it will be Eid al-Nasr, Eid al-Farha, Eid al-Return to our country, alhamdulillah.
01:07Eid, Eid, Eid.
01:08Eid, there's nothing better than Eid.
01:09And especially after the displacement, after the years of displacement.
01:10Eid al-Nasr, Eid al-Farha, Eid al-Return to our country, alhamdulillah.
01:11Eid al-Nasr, Eid al-Farha, Eid al-Return to our country, alhamdulillah.
01:12Eid al-Nasr, Eid al-Farha, Eid al-Return to our country, alhamdulillah.
01:31The Syrian war has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions, many of whom lived
01:36in tents under harsh conditions throughout the war years.
