A grieving dad has used an appearance on Question Time to spark a campaign to bring in life bans for drink drivers who cause fatal crashes.

Scott Webb said he was determined something good would come out of a tragedy that saw his son Aidan, 19, killed by motorist who was one and a half times over the limit.

The teen was a passenger on the way home from watching England in the Euros when a Vauxhall Corsa driven by Tyler Wilkins, 20, crashed just before 10pm on December 10 2022.

Wilkins pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by careless driving whilst over the legal limit of alcohol and was jailed for three and a half years in September this year.

But his seven year driving ban has left Aidan’s family bereft and demanding much stronger sentences.

Scott, 52, of Milton Keynes, said: "Our main aim is to introduce a law that means drivers that kill while over the limit are banned for life.

"I don't want people to lose licences - I want there to be something to stop people drink driving."

00:00My name's Scott Webb, and on the 10th of December 2022, my son was killed in a car crash by a driver who was drunk.
00:12Off the back of that, we are doing a petition to introduce lifetime bans for all drivers that kill while over the limit.
00:22It's my feeling that there's no actual deterrent to stop, you know, working deterrent to stop drunk drivers from doing what they do.
00:32There's no awareness adverts on television.
00:35You know, if a driver decides to drink over the legal limit willingly, then he should know that he'll never drive again if he kills.
00:45On the night of the 10th of December, Aiden, it was the Euros, and Aiden was, there was two cars of five and eight, so ten people left to watch the football social club.
00:58I had been out that night as well with a friend watching the football.
01:02We ended up in a pub, and one of the cars arrived back, and they told me there'd been an accident, and Aiden was in the car, the other car.
01:12So I frantically tried to phone, couldn't get through on his phone, and then I had to go back and tell my wife that there'd been an accident.
01:21I'd been drinking, so I obviously wasn't going to drive, so we had to wait for my brother to pick me up and take us to the crash scene.
01:29We got to the crash scene. There was blue lights everywhere.
01:33We wasn't allowed to go anywhere near, obviously, the crash, and we were told at the side of the road that there'd been a fatality, and it was Aiden.
01:43So after the police left us, we wanted to go and see Aiden the following day.
01:52We went to the hospital to see him in the morgue, and we couldn't see his whole face.
02:02There was a sheet covering half his face because his head had been deformed by the accident.
02:10The last person that left, I said, have a great night. Don't let anyone drink or drive.
02:15And then within five hours, we get told he's been killed, and then within 24 hours, I'm seeing him, and I can't see his whole face because of the accident.
02:28The driver of the car received 16 months in prison.
02:34Well, it would have been 40 months, but with the new labour laws, he got 40% of that, which was 16 months.
02:41And I just don't understand. I don't think any parent out there would actually think for their child's life that 16 months is a harsh enough penalty.
02:51He was also given a seven-year driving ban, 16 months of which he'll serve in prison.
02:58So by the time he's out of prison, he could be 28, and he could be driving.
03:05When the police came out in the morning to talk to us about Aiden being killed,
03:11I said straight at that point that something good has to come out of this because Aiden would have been killed for nothing.
03:21It's an accepted fact that we all go out on the road knowing that there's drunk drivers on the road with us,
03:29and no one should have to drive knowing that there's people drunk at the wheel.
03:35We just need to stop people thinking they can get behind the wheel when they're over the limit.
03:40We feel it's a privilege to drive a car, and if you kill while over the limit, that privilege should be taken away.
