00:00Voters in Edinburgh's Colinton Fairmile Headward are about to elect a new councillor.
00:06A by-election is being held on Thursday, November 14th to choose a replacement for Labour's Scott Arthur, the council's former Transport Convener.
00:16He was elected MP for Edinburgh's South West at the general election in July.
00:21There are 12 candidates standing in the by-election.
00:24Labour's Sheila Gilmore is bidding to return to the City Chambers.
00:28She served on the council for 16 years before stepping down in 2007 and was Housing Convener for eight of those years.
00:36She then became MP for Edinburgh East in 2010, but lost the seat to the SNP in 2015.
00:43The Conservative candidate is Neil Cuthbert, who stood in this ward at the last council elections in 2022.
00:51He lives in Fairmile Head, his children went to a local primary school, and he is the director of a small PR agency.
00:58The SNP candidate, Marianna Clyde, recently retired as a lecturer at The Open University.
01:04She served for many years on Merkiston Community Council and stood for the SNP in Morningside Ward in the 2022 council elections.
01:13The Lib Dems candidate is Louise Spence, who also stood here at the council elections.
01:19She has lived in Collington with her family for more than 10 years and is former chair of Benally Primary Parent Council.
01:27After years of running her own business, she now works as a finance director in the food sector.
01:34Green candidate Daniel Milligan lived in Oxgans as a child, attending primary school there in the mid-1990s, and now lives in the Collington area.
01:43He has a degree in environmental microbiology and currently works in healthcare logistics.

01:54There are four independent standing, as well as candidates from Reform UK, the Scottish Libertarian Party and the Scottish Family Party.
02:04Polling stations on November 14 open at 7am and close at 10pm. Counting the votes takes place the following day.
