00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of the Interior and local government,
00:05or DILG, to ensure peaceful elections next year. During the sectoral meeting, the DILG was tasked
00:12to focus on hotspot areas with high incidence of election-related crimes. 38 hotspot areas have
00:19been identified, seven of which are in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslimandanao,
00:24or Barm. The agency is also closely monitoring areas with election-related killings,
00:30such as Aguera Leyte. Meanwhile, the DILG is pushing for reforms within the ranks in the
00:37Philippine National Police, or PNP. Secretary John Vick Ramulia aims to reduce the number
00:43of top-heavy officials, particularly the generals. Currently, there are 133 PNP generals,
00:50some of whom have no command or staff, and the goal is to reduce this number to 25
00:56to achieve a greater efficiency rate. And Secretary Ramulia is confident
01:01the police will not be discouraged by this measure.
01:05It's very accepting. The reforms are recommendatory four months from now.
01:14We're working together with the UP Public College of Public Administration to get
01:19complete details on how we can reform, especially the structure, because the PNP is very top-heavy.
