A Sheffield local has re-opened as a pub restaurant

The Mason's, in Crookes, Sheffield, has re-opened after a short closure and is now a Northern Burger pub-restaurant

00:00A well-known Sheffield pub has reopened after a short closure, and now it's a pub restaurant.

00:07The Masons in Crookes has been taken over by burger entrepreneur Mitchell Hinschliff,

00:12and he has converted half of the pub into a restaurant.

00:15He's been running a business called Northern Burger for 18 months, largely takeaway, and

00:20felt it was time to open a restaurant.

00:22Yeah, so we've been doing Northern Burger for about 18 months, we've had a very good

00:29base, we've got a lot of fans, we're going up and down the UK, we have a takeaway in

00:34Ekington and one of our other bars, it's been operating really well, and we thought it was

00:38time to build it into a restaurant.

00:40The Masons is perfect, it's in Crookes, Sheffield city centre, and we're just on the doorstep

00:47of Sheffield there, and it made sense, we are Northern Burger, we do Northern-inspired

00:51stuff, and it works out to being in a place such as Sheffield city centre.

00:57We're right down the road from the Henderson's Relish factory, it makes a lot of sense!

01:01Is Henderson's Relish a big element of what you do?

01:04We throw it into everything, as much as we can anyway, we're all fans of Endo's round

01:07here, you can see the artworks and stuff, yeah we love Henderson's, who don't if you're

01:11from Sheffield, nor Liam Perrins round here.

01:15Have you run pubs before?

01:16Yeah we've had a few, had sort of events venues, country pub once upon a time, we've had Lounge

01:24Coffee Bar now for about 8 years, in Ekinson, that's like cocktail bar and bistro.

01:30We've done pizza vans for about 4 years, Northern Burger's been around about 18 months.

01:38And are there any other big changes that you're making here at the Masons?

01:41Yeah, yeah, we're doing a lot of student-focused drinks, we're doing dirty pints, the Garry

01:48famously named after Garry Barlow, it's a quadruple shot concoction that we're selling

01:54at a fast rate at the minute, it's cutting out the door real quick, especially on student

01:57nights.

01:58We're doing live music, we're organising a hip-hop vinyl night on a weeknight, I believe

02:05it's going to be Thursdays, that's up and coming.

02:07We're doing a lot of sport, and obviously Northern Burger, 5 days a week.

02:14And has there been a big response since you've opened?

02:17Yeah, no, it's been fantastic, the locals have been lovely, it's obviously quite strange

02:21coming into a new area and starting up a business like this, but they've been really welcoming,

02:26everyone's been really, really nice, and we've had a great response to the food, and the

02:32drinks, the cocktails, stuff that we're doing like that, it's been great.
