16 September - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Quiet conditions through Thursday with some sunshine as a ridge of high pressure
00:05extends across. However, the morning could be a bit foggy. Backtrack to Wednesday evening
00:11and a weak weather front continues to deliver clouds and also some showery rain to western
00:16and northern areas of Scotland, perhaps a few showers towards the north-east of Scotland
00:20through evening time. The cloud comes and goes across the south-west of Scotland border
00:24regions, west Wales, even coastal districts across eastern areas of Northern Ireland with
00:28the odd spot or two of rain through the evening. However, overnight, many areas becoming drier
00:34and under some clearer skies, fog patches are likely to form. Winds will remain fairly
00:39light into tomorrow morning and temperatures will drop quite quickly. So, single figures
00:44for many areas in the north, particularly in the countryside, a chilly start to the
00:48day here. Further south, holding on to double figures, it's going to be a relatively mild
00:53morning. First thing then on Thursday. We hang on to a little bit of rain across Shetland
00:59but it will improve through the day. Always a patchy cloud across central and northern
01:03areas of Scotland but then some fog patches across the central belt border regions. Northern
01:08Ireland seeing some mist and murk, northern England much of Wales. Further south, it's
01:12a similar situation, a dry scenario, but again, mist and fog can't be ruled out through the
01:18morning. It will lift by around mid-morning, allowing some brighter weather to come through.
01:22So, Thursday will prove to be a fine day, some good spells of sunshine. Through the
01:27middle part of the day, the cloud could build across England and Wales. It's a small chance
01:32of a shower but many areas remaining dry and certainly a dry afternoon to come across many
01:38areas with some late sunshine to end the day as temperatures rise to around 18 to 23 degrees
01:45Celsius, so perhaps slightly higher than Wednesday. Winds remain light but notice towards the
01:51west through the latter part of the day, you'll find a southerly wind will pick up
01:55some strength, heralding a change in the weather here. It brings with it clouds and also some
02:00outbreaks of rain. Rain arriving across western Scotland and northern Ireland by around mid-evening
02:05on Thursday, pushing erratically eastwards through Friday. So, many eastern areas could
02:10get away with another dry day with some sunshine but into the weekend, it certainly is a mixed
02:15bag. There will always be a lot of cloud around, the chance of some showery bursts of rain
02:20but at the same time, some brighter weather coming through, particularly perhaps four
02:25more western areas through Saturday. So, stay tuned to the forecast and obviously we'll
02:29keep you posted here at the Met Office.
