00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Thursday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04A couple of things through the next 24 hours.
00:06Fog could be widespread and dense in the south into tomorrow morning.
00:10At the same time, winds pick up from the west.
00:12So the winds fall light across England and Wales.
00:15Temperatures actually tailing off quite quickly.
00:17It's going to be a chilly start to the day on Friday.
00:19Dry for many before this cloud and rain arrives, pushes across the west
00:23and eventually reaches more eastern counties later on Friday night and into Saturday morning.
00:28Here's your warning zone.
00:29Northwest Scotland gusts around 55, 60 miles an hour.
00:33So expect some high waves associated with this and also some coastal overtopping.
00:38Now through this evening, it's fairly quiet outside.
00:41Winds are fairly light at the moment.
00:43Any showers dying away towards the north, clearing skies then and temperatures tailing off.
00:48It's going to be a colder night than recently.
00:51And this will allow for some fog to form towards more southern areas.
00:54It could become quite widespread and dense into the early hours of Friday morning,
00:58causing problems on the road with poor visibility.
01:01At the same time, cloud rolls in across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.
01:05And these winds will be a feature of the weather right the way through Friday.
01:08Here, temperatures 9 or 10 degrees Celsius, but further south and east,
01:12dipping down to around 6 or 7.
01:14So a chilly start to the day and quite murky across some parts of the south,
01:19central and southern parts of England and Wales,
01:21and even further north across prone spots, you could see some fog patches to start the day.
01:26As I said, they could be dense and slow to clear.
01:29Now through the morning, it turns wet across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.
01:33Those winds picking up to gale force towards the extreme west
01:36as rain makes inroads across Wales, northwest England,
01:39some parts of Scotland away from the northeast.
01:41Rain also for the west country.
01:43We hang on to some fine weather across the east Midlands,
01:46eastwards with some sunshine once that fog clears
01:49and the rain then intensifies further across Northern Ireland as well as Western Scotland later
01:54and also with those gusty winds.
01:56So some lively weather in the west.
01:58It's fairly slack further east and a fine end to the day
02:02as temperatures arrive around 17 degrees Celsius and 15 in the north.
02:06But watch out for that wind and also those high waves.
02:09So that's the picture on Friday.
02:11Through Friday evening and overnight,
02:13we watch as the clouds and the rain gradually pushes its way eastwards.
02:18So it could be heavy at times, so causing problems perhaps on the roads
02:21through Friday rush hour towards the northwest
02:24as it extends across England and Wales and clears from the west
02:27and then clearing skies into Saturday morning with some sunshine.
02:30Showery across eastern counties first thing,
02:33but that wet weather will eventually clear.
02:35So many areas seeing some bright weather to end the day
02:38and temperatures around the mid teens.
02:40Now on Sunday, gales pick up ahead of this next system
02:43and then warnings have been issued right the way through Sunday
02:46across the north as well as the west.
02:48We could see severe gales across the northwest,
02:51gusts inland 55 to 65 miles an hour across exposure 80 miles an hour
02:55as rain extends its way right across the country.
02:59It will be windy elsewhere,
03:01but it's a real squeeze on the ice bars to the south of that low.
03:04That low is developing all the while.
03:06So yes, a very challenging day for many as we head through Sunday.
03:10So this is your outlook through Sunday afternoon.
03:13Yes, those wind warnings extend right the way through the day
03:16and expect some heavy rain as temperatures hold around 15 to 17 degrees Celsius.
03:20I'll see you later.
