1 September - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Thursday marks the beginning of meteorological autumn and possibly the
00:04last settled day for a while, as low pressure replaces high pressure, bringing with it unsettled
00:10conditions, rain, showers and some stronger winds into the weekend. However, through Wednesday
00:15evening it's pleasant outside, just one or two isolated showers towards the east, most
00:20places remaining dry overnight. Quite a brisk breeze across central and southern parts of
00:24England and Wales yet again, but further north a light wind will allow some mist and fog
00:29patches to form and it will turn chilly, particularly across Scotland, the glens of Scotland, seeing
00:34temperatures dip down to mid-single figures, perhaps even a little bit lower. But a mild
00:38start to the day further west and south. So through the morning, pleasant for many with
00:43some blue sky and sunshine cloud just rolling across the sky very slowly. Now you can see
00:48here perhaps a little bit more cloud for Yorkshire where there could be one or two residual showers,
00:53many areas though dry through the morning. During the afternoon more clouds will slowly
00:57extend from more southern areas, making the sunshine here rather hazy. Elsewhere though,
01:02not a lot of change, just a few isolated showers dotted around. But notice some showers gathering
01:08across the Channel Islands. They're going to be moving their way northwards through Thursday
01:12evening and overnight, extending across England and Wales as we head into Friday. Before that
01:17though, through Thursday afternoon, temperatures reaching 21 across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:2223 to 25 across England and Wales. So here's your outlook through Friday. The chance of showers
01:28across many areas, but some sunshine in between, certainly for more northern and northeastern areas.
01:34But into Saturday, things really ramp up in terms of how much rain, the intensity of the rain,
01:39it will be slow moving. And through the weekend, most places will see some wet weather as the
01:43winds pick up towards the north as well as the east. So here's that low pressure system extending
01:48and swirling around the UK through Saturday. Weather fronts extending up towards the northeast
01:54through Saturday and into Sunday with some keen breezes here. And some high rainfall totals are
01:58expected, particularly towards the southwest of Scotland through Saturday and into Sunday,
02:03with not a lot of change as we head into Monday where things will slowly turn fresher. Bye-bye.
