00:00I'm Jack Marshall and I'm a digital reporter with the Lancashire Post and welcome to our
00:07latest LP Eat video. Now as you'll know this season we're reviewing pizza in the city,
00:12the lovely city behind me, it bathed in lovely October sunshine even though it is a bit nippy
00:17out there. So we've been heading out to some of the most kind of well-reviewed, recommended,
00:24top-rated pizza spots across Preston. We've tried three so far, this is going to be our
00:29fourth and we're going to go down to Mr Slice Guy which is located about a 20-minute walk
00:34away. So I'm going to head over there, try it out, see what I can find and see if the
00:37slice measures up. Cheers!
00:39Hi guys, just walking across Preston now towards Mr Slice Guy. It's cold today despite the
00:46sunniness but yeah I'm excited. I think this place kind of brands itself on doing like
00:51wood-fired pizza so I'm expecting something really authentic, classic, thin crust, that's
00:56what I'm looking for. Let's go see what it's like.
01:00Hi guys, so when I left here I was just heading across Preston in the unseasonably bright
01:06October sun, which we've got more of today by the way, to try Mr Slice Guy and like I
01:12said I was looking for kind of proper wood-fired authentic pizza and I've got to say I was
01:16seriously impressed. Now there was a couple of cufflefuls in the sense that they didn't
01:21take, the card machine was broken but that's not their fault, just went next door and grabbed
01:25some cash so that was fine. I'm giving the vibe in there like a 3.5. It was a little
01:31quiet but again, it was early, it's just, they need to be a bit more, they need to take
01:36advantage of the fact that they've got a really cool premises there, they've got a really
01:40cool pizza oven, they've got a really cool setup, make it a bit more kind of hospitable
01:44for sitting, dining, that's the only comment I'd have, the people are friendly, that's
01:48it. 3.5 out of 5 on the vibe front.
01:51Now to the pizza itself, the dough. This dough was the best dough I've had so far
01:54during LP Eats. It was perfect, it's exactly what you want from pizza dough. It had that
01:59kind of like lightness to it, an airiness to it with a bit of a nice yeasty flavour,
02:05it was part of a mouthful, part of a meal, part of a flavour rather than just being the
02:10thing that all the flavours are on top of so it had a bite to it but it wasn't stodgy,
02:14it was a perfect balance and because we've got that classic real pizza oven, it was like
02:19charred around the edges which is a really nice touch, I really enjoyed that. 5 out of
02:235 for the dough, cannot complain, cannot fault it, cannot find any way to improve on that
02:27dough, it was delicious. Now onto the toppings. Toppings were the same, 5 out of 5 for the
02:33pepperoni. It was thick cut but it didn't like fray up at the edges when it had gone
02:37in the oven. It had like a depth of flavour where it wasn't just pure salt or pure pepperiness
02:42or pure spice, it had something a bit more about it, it had depth to it. It was perfect
02:49pepperoni, brilliant, proper bite to it, like I say really thick, lovely, cannot complain
02:53whatsoever, 5 out of 5 for the toppings. Now onto the cheese and the sauce. The sauce was
02:58really nice, really really good, cannot fault the sauce at all, really delicious, you could
03:04taste it, it had that proper homemade nature to it, there wasn't too much of it, there
03:07wasn't too little of it, perfect balance, got like a nice bit in each mouthful so that
03:11was good as well. The cheese, there could have been a bit more cheese, I wanted to notice
03:15the cheese a bit more, I didn't really get any like stringy bites, that's the only thing
03:19I'll say. I'm giving them a 4.5 out of 5 on the cheese front because like I say the
03:24cheese just needed to be a bit more impactful in terms of what it was bringing to the pizza
03:28party. And then finally we come to value, now this pizza cost me £10.79 which is okay
03:33but given that this was a takeaway pizza, you weren't dining in, you weren't having
03:36anything, there were no benefits on that front, you weren't really doing it, you were just
03:39picking it up and going. Yeah, solid deal, it was delicious, it was really good, so I'm
03:45giving her a 3.5 out of 5 for that because it was very, very good but I feel like maybe
03:50if I'm being really persnickety for that kind of price, you'd like to maybe be able to sit
03:54in if you wanted to but anyway I might be nitpicking. That gives me a total score of
03:5921.5 out of 25 which is a really strong score. I enjoyed my time, enjoyed my pizza from Mr
04:05Slice Guy, try it out yourselves, let me know what you think and stay tuned for next week's
04:09pizza review. Cheers!
