00:00Hi, my name's Jack Marshall. I'm a digital reporter with the Lancashire Post newspaper
00:08and welcome to our roundup for season three of LPEats. Now those who've been watching
00:13will know that we've been on the search, on the lookout for Preston's best pepperoni pizza
00:18in season three of LPEats after our preceding two seasons, the debut season, which was looking
00:23for Preston's top chicken shawarma and the second season, which was all about Preston's
00:28top burger. Now coming to the third season, I was really looking for five key things.
00:33Now two of those things are things we look for everywhere, which is value for money and
00:37good vibe in the restaurant. But the other three things which I really want from these
00:40pizzas were a really nice authentic dough, really, really nice homemade sauce with like
00:46a proper liberal use of cheese, make it really stringy, looking for that stringy bite. And
00:50then the third thing was obviously a really good quality pepperoni as a topping. So those
00:55are the five categories we were judging each pizza on, and I've done 10 different places,
00:58all highly recommended by many of our readers, really good reviews online, ranked really
01:04highly on Google Trip Advisor, obviously with the booklet yourselves as well. So we had
01:08our list of 10. I've been to every single one of them. I've ordered a piece from every
01:10single one of them. I've eaten a piece from every single one of them and the scores are
01:14now in. I'm just going to run you through our top five and give you a bit of information
01:18as to what really made these places stand out so you can get a good idea of where the
01:22top pizzas in Preston are, in my opinion. Now we're starting with number five, which
01:28was the Moorbrook. Now I was really impressed by the Moorbrook. I wasn't, I've got to admit,
01:32I wasn't expecting a pizza of this quality from what is essentially just a British pub
01:37on the corner. Went in, the staff were lovely, the vibe was great, the pizza they served
01:42up was absolutely outstanding. I think it's probably the best pepperoni I ate throughout
01:46this whole thing. So that was really good. It had great stringy cheese to it, had a lovely
01:51bite in the dough. I was really impressed. It got a 20.5 out of 25 to place it in fifth
01:56position. Coming to fourth, we had an Honest John's. Now this had the best sauce I tried.
02:01It was tangy, it was sweet, it had a bit of a kick to it, it had flavour profile. It wasn't
02:06just sweet tomato sauce, which a lot of pizzas are guilty of doing, just giving you a big
02:10sickly pile of tomato sauce. This had depth to it. It was a proper kind of like part of
02:15the pizza. It wasn't just a method of getting pepperoni and dough into your mouth. It was
02:20really notable. It was kind of like the most classic takeaway pizza I had and that's no
02:24bad thing. I absolutely loved it. Honest John's in fourth, 21 out of 25. Now third was Mr.
02:30Slice Guy. They got 21.5 out of 25. Outstanding pepperoni again. Really nice find. I wasn't
02:36expecting too much from this place. It's kind of off the beaten track a little bit out towards
02:39Ashton and Ribble. But it was just great. Everything about it was really nice. The dough
02:44was lovely and charred. Really, really nice touch to it. I just enjoyed it so much. It
02:48was a proper thin pizza. Everything about it was great. I really enjoyed it. Really,
02:53really pleased to have found that place. I'll definitely be going back at some point. Like
02:56I say, they came third. Now second, well, we've actually got two, which scored exactly
03:01the same number of points, which is Nonno Lucia's and Cafe Bar on Winkley Square. Now both
03:06these places scored 22 out of 25, but I'm just giving it to Cafe Bar on the very simple
03:12reason, for the very simple reason that their pizza was slightly cheaper and it was a classic
03:17thin pizza. Don't get me wrong. Obviously I ordered the deep dish at Nonno Lucia's,
03:21but that's the one they're more famous for. So I'm judging them on that. I feel bad for
03:25Nonno Lucia's because it was an exceptional deep dish pizza. I'd never had one before,
03:29but it was absolutely astonishing. I didn't think that a deep dish would be able to have
03:34thin dough whilst also maintaining the structural integrity of the higher base sides of a deep
03:39dish. I was so impressed by that. The pepperoni was great. Everything about it was good. It
03:43was solid value as well. But that brings us on to the winner, which in my opinion, was
03:47just outstanding. Everything about this pizza took me back to going to Italy in the past.
03:52It was perfection in my view, or as close to perfection as you're going to get. The
03:56setting was brilliant. Anyone who's been to Cafe Bar will know about the little courtyard
03:59they've got there. It was a sunbathed afternoon in, I believe, October at this point, maybe
04:04earlier. And it was just perfect. The dough was flawless. The toppings were fresh. The
04:09sauce was nice. The cheese was a nice balance. It was great value. I think I paid just over
04:13£10 for the pizza. It was such good value. Everything about it, I just loved it. So stay
04:18tuned for next week when I'll be speaking to the owner of Cafe Bar personally to get
04:24the inside track on what it takes to make Preston's top pizza. But that's our rundown.
04:29So obviously, top spot goes to Cafe Bar, second is Nonna Lucia's, third is Mr Slice Guy, fourth
04:34is Honest John's, and fifth is the Moor Brook. I cannot thank you enough to anyone who's
04:38been watching our series. Stay tuned for our new series, which is going to kick off in
04:42the new year. We're going to be doing a different food type. Stay tuned for that as well. We're
04:45going to be asking for people's, I've got pizza on my mind, people's recommendations
04:49for what we should do next, what they want to see, what cuisine type. But yeah, I can't
04:54thank you enough for watching. And like I say, stay tuned next week. We're going to
04:56be speaking personally to the director and owner of Cafe Bar to see what goes into making
05:01Preston's best pizza. Cheers.
