00:00The two Philippine caregivers are now in jail and are being investigated in South Korea.
00:04The employer was fired to look for another job.
00:08They are only in their first month under the caregiver program of the government there.
00:13Maris was able to escape.
00:18In the land of K-pop in South Korea where a lot of Filipinos are living,
00:23Arlene Ponce would also like to achieve her dream.
00:27But it's not just to get married, but also to get a job.
00:30Especially since she is a caregiver and a registered midwife.
00:33It's a big challenge for me.
00:35I also want to get there because I heard that South Korea is beautiful.
00:43I want to apply all the experiences that I have here in the Philippines.
00:52But the dream doesn't seem to be in vain, even if it's not completely fulfilled.
00:57Two of the 100 Filipino caregivers sent to South Korea
01:01as part of the six-month pilot program of the government
01:04left their jobs in the first month of their contract there.
01:09They are having a hard time because they are overworked.
01:11They saw a job that offered employment as a cleaner.
01:17So that's where they got caught, in their new employer.
01:21When they got caught, they were brought to the Immigration Authority in Busan.
01:26The two were imprisoned in South Korean Immigration while being investigated.
01:31It's a bit of a paradox in the sense that we have to go through the process of investigating the two.
01:36In terms of timeline, we can't answer yet because we don't know when their investigation will end.
01:42If that's what happened now, it's very disappointing.
01:49The two Filipinos who were imprisoned will receive legal assistance.
01:52And if they are deported, they will receive financial assistance from the Action Fund
01:55of the DMW for the distressed workers.
01:58The two caregivers who were deported were considered an isolated case
02:03by the Philippines and South Korea.
02:06The DMW and the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor are currently assessing the program
02:12to address the issues and problems that arose in the first part of the agreement.
