00:00According to the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:03the country's inflation dropped by more than 1% in the past month of September.
00:08Let's find out the details in the words of Joshua Garcia.
00:13The Philippines' inflation dropped by 1.9%
00:17according to the Philippine Statistics Authority
00:20just last month of September.
00:22This is the lowest rate recorded since May 2020.
00:26This is lower than the 3.3% in August 2024
00:31and 6.1% in September 2023.
00:34While the year-to-date average inflation from January to September
00:38is at 3.4%.
00:40According to the National Statistician
00:42under Secretary-Claire Denise Mapa,
00:44this is due to a slower increase in food,
00:47drinks, and transportation prices.
00:49The lower household inflation,
00:52water, electricity, and gas
00:55slowed down because of the higher prices.
00:57So based on the computation,
00:59it's again a combination,
01:00but the impact of lower prices
01:05on other items is substantial,
01:08especially when they are negative
01:09relative to the base effect.
01:11But base effect, because of the computation,
01:14really has an impact on the 1.9%.
01:18In Metro Manila,
01:20the inflation dropped by 1.7%
01:22From 2.3% in August,
01:25due to a slow increase in house prices and transportation
01:28while outside the NCR,
01:30the inflation dropped by 2%
01:32from 3.6% last month.
01:35The Ilocos region recorded the lowest inflation rate
01:38at 0.6%,
01:40while Western Visayas recorded the highest inflation rate at 3.4%.
01:44If our inflation rate drops,
01:46it means that the price of goods has slowed.
01:51But if we look at the individual items,
01:55or some group of items,
01:57there are some that really dropped, negative.
01:59It means that the price really dropped.
02:01So an example of this is transportation,
02:04gasoline, diesel, tomatoes,
02:06those are negative.
02:08But overall,
02:10this is 1.9% overall.
02:12It just means that it still increased,
02:14but at a slower rate.
02:17If we compare the 1.9% inflation rate
02:20in the past year,
02:21it dropped a lot from 6.1% in September 2023,
02:26which shows a big change
02:28in the rapid increase of house prices
02:30and services within a year.
02:33Meanwhile,
02:34according to the National Economic and Development Authority,
02:36or NEDA,
02:37the government is continuing to push
02:39the measures
02:40to maintain a stable price of basic goods,
02:43such as the implementation of Executive Order No. 62
02:46to lower the rice tariffs,
02:48the Agri-Puhunan and Pantawid Program,
02:50as well as the ongoing fight against African Swine Fever or ASF,
02:53and the passing of the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act
02:56that aims to stop
02:58hoarding and other illegal activities.
03:00According to NEDA,
03:01the government is also preparing
03:02to face the effects of the pandemic
03:04to maintain a stable price of basic goods.
