00:00After four years, the country recorded the slowest inflation or increase in the price of goods and services.
00:09This was in September, where it was even lower than expected.
00:14What is the reason for this? Let's find out in the news center of Joshua Garcia.
00:21Inflation in the Philippines decreased by 1.9% according to the data of the Philippine Statistics Authority.
00:27This was only last month of September. This is the lowest rate recorded since May 2020.
00:34It is lower than 3.3% in August 2024 and 6.1% in September 2023,
00:42while the year-to-date average inflation from January to September is at 3.4%.
00:48According to National Statistician Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa,
00:52this is a result of the slow increase in the price of food, drinks, and transportation.
00:57The lower inflation in the household, water, electricity, and gas also helped,
01:02which slowed down the overall increase in the price.
01:05So based on the computation, it's again, it's a combination,
01:07but the impact of lowering the price of other items is substantial,
01:15especially when they are negative relative to the base effect.
01:19But base effect, because of the computation, really has an impact on the 1.9%.
01:26In Metro Manila, the inflation decreased by 1.7% from 2.3% in August.
01:32Due to the slow increase in the price of household and transportation while outside the NCR,
01:37the inflation decreased by 2% from 3.6% last month.
01:42The Ilocos region recorded the lowest inflation rate of 0.6%,
01:47while Western Visayas recorded the highest inflation rate of 3.4%.
01:52If our inflation rate decreases, it means that the price of our goods has decreased.
01:59But if we look at individual items or some group of items,
02:05there are some that fell, negative.
02:07It means that the price really decreased.
02:09So an example of this is transport, gasoline, diesel, tomatoes, those are negative.
02:16But overall, this is 1.9%.
02:19Overall, it means that it still increased, but at a slower rate.
02:25If we compare the previous year's 1.9% inflation rate,
02:29it decreased a lot from 6.1% in September 2023,
02:34which shows a big change in the speed of increasing the prices of goods and services within a year.
02:41Meanwhile, according to the National Economic and Development Authority or NEDA,
02:44the government continues to push for measures to maintain a stable price of primary goods,
02:50such as the implementation of Executive Order No. 62, which lowers the price of rice tariffs,
02:55the Agri-Puhunan and Pantawid Program,
02:57as well as the ongoing fight against African Swine Fever or ASF,
03:01and the passing of the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act,
03:04which aims to stop hoarding and other illegal activities.
03:07According to the NEDA, the government is also preparing to face the effects of the pandemic
03:12to maintain a sustainable price of goods.
