00:00The Dodgers were a road favorite yesterday in Miami, so beating the Marlins 20-4 isn't
00:09all that crazy, even with 20 runs.
00:12But you might be thinking to yourself, how did they get to 20 in a baseball game?
00:17His name is Shohei Otani, who made Major League Baseball history in more ways than one last
00:23night in Miami.
00:25Let's talk about the game itself first.
00:28Six hits and six at-bats, three home runs, ten RBIs, he scored four runs, and he stole
00:37two bases.
00:38Again, Joe, I said this at the start of the show, but it bears repeating because it was
00:42a historic performance.
00:44Since the RBI became an official stat back in 1920, over a century ago in America's pastime,
00:50only one Major League Baseball player over the course of his career has totaled up a
00:55game of all of these requirements.
00:58Ten or more RBIs, once in his career.
01:01Six or more hits, once in his career.
01:03Five or more extra base hits, once in his career.
01:06Three or more home runs, once in his career.
01:09At least two stolen bases, once in his career.
01:11A game to solidify all of those positions just at one time throughout what could be
01:16a 12, 14, 16-year Major League Baseball career, Shohei Otani did it all in his career in one
01:23single game last night in South Florida.
01:26And oh, by the way, the three home runs gives him 51 this season.
01:31The two stolen bags gives him 51 so far this season.
01:35He became also the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in
01:42the same season.
01:44We have said it before, we will say it again, a unicorn on the diamond and the greatest
01:49to ever do it.
01:50I mean, there are just so many things that, in the way to do it, to create his own club,
01:57the 50-50 club, Ben, in that way is just the thing that legends are made of here.
02:04And I can't help but to wonder if any of this happens if he's a pitcher this year, Ben.
02:11And I think it's a fair question, because if this is what he is capable of, of just
02:16being an everyday hitter, an everyday player DH, why in the world would I want him to do
02:23— I don't want you to pitch.
02:25What good would he have done the Dodgers pitching this year?
