Professor Ailsa Henderson, chair of Boundaries Scotland, on the latest "further proposals" for boundary changes, especially around Edinburgh, including review of regions. 25-09-24.
Transcript
00:00In terms of the proposals that might be of interest to those living in Edinburgh and East Lothian,
00:04we've made changes to constituency boundaries in certain areas. So we have changed the boundaries
00:10in Edinburgh Southern, we have moved those north incorporating more of Morningside and
00:14Edinburgh Southern. We have made changes also around Gorgie and Dalry and we have made changes
00:21around Davidson's Mains. Judging by the consultation responses, the change that
00:27might attract the most interest is the reintroduction of Leith in the constituency
00:31name of Edinburgh North Eastern and Leith. But we've also got our provisional proposals for
00:37regions and a change there that might interest people is that the Lothian region loses West
00:43Lothian but gains East Lothian. And we think that change is important because it means that a
00:48constituency boundary that was attracting some attention when we were drawing constituencies
00:55is now entirely within a single region. So East Lothian and Edinburgh are together
01:00in a region for the Scottish Parliament elections according to these provisional proposals.
