Lauren Bowles speaks on her appointment as South Bendigo's A-grade netball coach for the 2025 BFNL season.

00:00Yeah, I think I just needed a little bit of a change. I've been a player at Whiteheels

00:16for nine years, a coach for seven years and I just, I've always said a coach hits their

00:22expiry date and I think I was just searching for the next challenge. I think Whiteheels

00:26is in a really wonderful space with its culture. It's obviously been extremely successful even

00:32before my time, so it's in a position to hand over to the next person and I'm ready to take

00:37on a new challenge and enter into the Bendigo League.

00:39It's obviously something that appealed to you, you have a bit of a family link to the

00:43Bloods?

00:44Yeah, definitely. Dad was a player here, my uncles, my cousins, my husband played here

00:49as well, so I certainly have so many fond memories of being at South Bendigo, QEO at

00:55the time. And yeah, it was an absolute no-brainer. The club is so professional and when I met

00:59with them, combining the family ties with their professionalism, it was just a no-brainer

01:05and I'm super excited to see us in 2025.

01:08And with no disrespect to other leagues, you're back in the big league, it's BFNL, obviously

01:12fond memories are life-long.

01:13Yeah, I've seen a lot of netball over the years in the Bendigo League and yeah, I think

01:18as I said, I'm ready for the challenge. I've done a lot of coaching over the years to set

01:22myself up to take on this challenge and yeah, I'm excited by the current playing group

01:27that South Bendigo have and as I said earlier, very thankful for all the work that Alicia

01:32has done the last 12 months with the current playing group and ready to take over and work

01:37with the juniors and yeah, see what we can do over the next couple of years.

01:41And obviously something that's going to be quite special later on next season, at least

01:45two games against the brother.

01:48I know, I know. Yeah, what's mum going to do? She's going to have to try and pick what

01:52colour she's going to wear for the day. So it'll be, yeah, some nice rivalry, that's

01:57for sure. But yeah, Jayden's been one of my biggest supporters as I am to his netball

02:01and his netball coaching. So yeah, the debrief after the game will just be a little bit more

02:06surface level and certainly not strategy-based anymore. And yeah, as I said, he's excited

02:12for me and yeah, I'm excited for the challenge.
