The Examiner's sports reporters discuss the newly-unveiled NTFA coaching lineup for 2025 representative matches. Video by Aaron Smith (3/4/25)
Transcript
00:00We're here at UTAS Stadium for the launch of the NTFA season, specifically the Division
00:041 and Division 2 seasons.
00:06We had a lot of coaches and players here talking about what they hope for the season ahead,
00:11but we also had a secondary announcement.
00:12Can you tell us a bit about it, Josh?
00:14Yeah, we had the NTFA's representative coaches announced.
00:17So Adrian Smith will be taking on the Premier Division men's role, and Michaela Binns and
00:24Ash Smith will be co-coaching the women's.
00:26So they will be the top flight ones, whereas the more community football, I think that's
00:30the term that they're using, Lachie Dornoff will be doing the men's, and Adrian Collins
00:35will be doing the women's for that space.
00:37You know, it will be another opportunity for them to play at a higher level, and they'll
00:40be the surprise packets that come out of nowhere that, you know, data-wise, and they play a
00:44particular role at club is really important.
00:46I think one of the things that I'm really firm on is that we've got to reward the players
00:50that play roles each week in the teams, and then not just pick a team of all midfielders
00:55and, you know, because they might be the best players, but reward the players that
00:58play roles within their clubs each week.
01:00It's really exciting, and I think another exciting piece of news is Ryan will be covering
01:03his first ever NTFA weekend, Ryan, mate, just two weeks into the job.
01:08I suppose, what are you looking forward to this weekend?
01:10Well, obviously looking forward to the NTFA, getting a look at it.
01:14Probably covering Division 2, covering Bridport versus Evandale, out at Evandale.
01:21Obviously Andrew Philpot was here, and he was talking up a pretty big game.
01:25He was saying his one goal was to win the Premiership, so we'll see how that goes for
01:28them, and obviously Evandale look like they've had a bunch of signings for this season, so
01:33should be a good game, hopefully.
01:34Yeah, I reckon you're exactly right, and Josh, for you, mate, what are you looking forward
01:38to most this weekend?
01:39Yeah, so there's one solitary women's game this weekend.
01:42It's St Pat's versus Old Scotch in the Division 1 competition, and that's one of four games
01:47up at Prospect this weekend, so there's a massive weekend up there at St Pat's, and
01:51it's really interesting given that Old Scotch and St Pat's, previously in different competitions
01:55for the women, but their men's teams have been rivals for years, so it'll be really
01:58interesting to see how their women's teams stack up against each other.
02:01Yeah, new chapter to the rivalry, I suppose, and for the Div 1 men, I think Bridge North
02:06versus Rochelet, arguably the two strongest sides from last year, and Hillwood will probably
02:10have a bit to say about that, but that will be a really good game.
02:13I think Rochelet are the best team in the competition heading into the league.
02:17I think it'll be interesting to see by just how much they can maybe assert that authority,
02:22or whether Bridge North can really take it up to the Tigers, but we'll catch you guys
02:26for the next one.
