Audacy betting insider, Nick Kostos, joins! Who does he like for this Sunday's NFL game picks? Who is your lock of the week?
Transcript
00:00Nick, I guarantee, I guarantee that Nick Kostos doesn't like a kiss-ass. Am I right about that?
00:07Um, well, no, like flattery can get people everywhere, but I will agree with you, Greg, that it is incredibly transparent when people do it as you advance in your career.
00:16There's no question. I will say, though, in Shyam's defense, you know, as Greg is saying that Shyam's a kiss-ass and Curtis is agreeing, Curtis is like,
00:22Yeah, yeah, yeah, Greg, you're right. Yeah, he is. Yeah, he really is.
00:25Yeah.
00:25I found that interesting.
00:26I agree with you. It is so unseemly when people kiss-ass.
00:29It really is.
00:30It's the worst.
00:31Especially when it's obvious.
00:32Right.
00:33Do you like, Greg, do you, and there's no, like, double entendre here, does any part of you, because you're a big deal, man, and I mean that sincerely, and I'm not kissing-ass, that's just the truth.
00:41Do you like it when people do that?
00:43He loves it.
00:44I find it, I just find it, I find it when it's obvious, I find it to be untoward.
00:50Yeah, you know what, I'll be honest, it makes me sick.
00:53Yeah, it does. Does it make you sick, really?
00:56Um, when it's so transparent and it's so obvious, it actually does make me sick, yeah.
01:02Yeah, so I would just, I would just bring up that I had the opportunity to have lunch this week with the CEO of this company.
01:13Oh, kiss, now please kiss my ass, please.
01:15The CEO of this company, David Field, and I were enjoying lunch this week, and at the end, he received a text message from you.
01:25That's right.
01:26Oh, wow.
01:27And apparently, he-
01:29Now there's a second part to the story that I may have to tell, I'm just saying, but yes, go on.
01:33He informed me that you text him every week, this is the CEO of our company.
01:39Wow.
01:40And you have his number?
01:41Damn.
01:42That you text him every week and ask for his recommendations when it comes to how you are going to wager on the Philadelphia Eagles.
01:50Is that accurate?
01:51Well, far be it for me to call the CEO of our company a liar.
01:55Far be it for me to say that that is the case.
01:57Now, I did text him to ask him about the Eagles game, that is true, but, but, and if you would like, Greg, I will send you the text message,
02:04the log between myself and Mr. Field, where we had not had any correspondence for quite some time,
02:10and then he texted me before the start of football season to say, thinking of you, hope it's a great season.
02:15Wow.
02:16It seems like you have juice.
02:17Yeah, that's some big time juice.
02:19Hell yeah, hell yeah, I got juice, of course I got juice.
02:22Wow.
02:23Damn.
02:24To have the CEO's cell phone number and be able to text him, that's, that's juice right there.
02:30Especially when you're texting him and saying your, your football acumen is extensive.
02:37And he did say to me, Greg, he also said, texted me and said, just had, just was just with Greg Hill,
02:43and then I think he said like some really important sponsor or something.
02:46Yeah.
02:47Like really?
02:48So that was, that was good for you, said Greg Hill made sure to say, to tell me how much he loves you.
02:53I do.
02:54I really do.
02:55I appreciate it.
02:56I love having you on this program and you are doing a fantastic job.
03:00Also, David Field is not a liar.
03:02He's telling the truth.
03:06All right.
03:07We're not even going to talk about last night.
03:09I don't think, I mean.
03:12It's up to you.
03:14I just don't, I mean, I, I, this, if they're, they're underdogs in every game this season for a reason, I believe.
03:21I was so excited after week one and I find myself very upset this morning, Nick.
03:27But, um, I, I'm not sure why, you know, we talked about it after they beat the Bengals in week one.
03:32I think I said last week, like the success of this season has nothing to do with wins and losses.
03:37It's, is your quarterback good or not?
03:39Like, is Drake May going to be good?
03:41And he obviously played at the end of the game last night and the offensive line is horrible.
03:44But, uh, let them down the field, like pretty decently.
03:47And who knows if there's a little more time on the clock, like maybe they're able to score a touchdown with Drake May.
03:51So look, man, they're not going to be good.
03:53They're probably going to go like, like four and 13.
03:56It's not going to be a great season for the Patriots.
03:58But again, when you get to season's end, if Patriots fans can say like, are like, oh, we have Drake May is the guy.
04:05Like we know Drake May is the guy moving forward.
04:07How is the season not a smashing success if that's what it is?
04:11And then next offseason, you can add another.
04:13I think Polk and Douglas are both good.
04:15You probably need a true number one alpha.
04:17Get the offensive line fixed up.
04:19Like, I think the defense will always be, they're down a couple of players right now, but the defense should be decent.
04:24I'm not saying they can win the Super Bowl next year.
04:26But if you get the quarterback, I mean, that's like all that matters this year.
04:29I'm, I'm choosing to view it that way for the Patriots.
04:32All right.
04:33Well, what do you like this weekend?
04:34Give us some reasonably sure bets for the weekend.
04:38Well, I'll do my best.
04:40Okay.
04:41We got a couple here coming up on Sunday.
04:43We'll start with the, with the Titans and the Packers in Tennessee.
04:46So I'm sure fantasy football players, football fans saw this yesterday.
04:50The Jordan Love was back at practice yesterday for Green Bay and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that maybe Love could start in this game.
04:58The betting market says that's not happening.
05:00Like it's not going to happen.
05:01Tennessee is almost a three point favorite.
05:03I promise you that if Love were going to start, like bettors would know and the Packers would be getting bet.
05:08I promise everybody that that's the case.
05:10If this is where we're going to be, Tennessee, less than a three point home favorite.
05:14I like the Titans against Malik Willis.
05:16Green Bay's rushing offense has been amazing the first couple of weeks.
05:20Tennessee's run defense is very good.
05:22Two space eaters on that defensive line.
05:24As long as Will Levis doesn't turn the football over, that idiot.
05:28I like the Titans here.
05:29So Titans minus two and a half at home against the Green Bay Packers.
05:33I'll take the Houston Texans laying a short number on the road at the Minnesota Vikings.
05:37Basically, you need Sam Darnold to beat Houston.
05:39It's like Sam Darnold against CJ Stroud.
05:41And maybe people think, oh, well, you're simplifying it too much.
05:44The Texans are better than the Vikings and I get the better quarterback.
05:47I'll just keep it as simple as that.
05:48I'll take the Texans laying the two Texans on the money line on the road at Minnesota.
05:53And OK, and I'll give you about two for Monday night.
05:58Can I ask you one thing about Sunday?
05:59Sure.
06:00Ravens-Cowboys, you're staying far away from that one.
06:02Because Ravens falling to 0-3 on the season, but it's a Cowboys home game.
06:06I'll bet Baltimore.
06:09It is not one of my favorite bets.
06:11But here's where I'm at just quickly on Dallas.
06:13So Dallas looks great.
06:15We bet Dallas in week one.
06:16I'm starting to become a we guy.
06:18Like, I did it.
06:19I was the one that did it.
06:20I bet Dallas.
06:21I don't know if you guys did.
06:22I bet Dallas week one against Cleveland.
06:24Box score will tell you after the game that that game was actually closer than the final score would indicate.
06:28So not as impressive as the final score would indicate.
06:31And then absolutely throttled last week by the New Orleans Saints.
06:35Now, I bet the Raiders last week to cover against Baltimore.
06:38But Baltimore should have won that football game.
06:40I'm not saying they should have covered, but they should have won.
06:42I think this sets up for the Ravens to win on Sunday on the road in Dallas.
06:46But it is not one of my favorite plays.
06:47But make me pick it.
06:48I'll take Baltimore.
06:49And then Monday night, I'll take the two dogs and the doubleheader.
06:52Jaguars plus the five and a half.
06:53Kitchen sink game for them.
06:54Have to win to avoid falling to 0-3.
06:56I'll have a Jaguars bet to win the game also.
06:59Backed up with my spread bet.
07:00And I'll take the Commanders.
07:02Has to be seven and a half.
07:04Not seven.
07:05Commanders plus seven and a half or better on the road in Cincinnati.
07:08I think the Bengals, like, will probably win and turn their season around.
07:11But their defense is not good.
07:13And I trust Jaden Daniels and this Commander's offense to score enough to cover a huge point spread in that game.
07:18Costos, can I ask you a very quick question?
07:20You're much smarter than me than I am at this.
07:22The Chiefs only giving three points to the Falcons seems really low.
07:27What am I missing?
07:28Well, you could actually think, like, you have an opportunity now, Curtis, you and listeners, if you want,
07:32to bet Kansas City now, now that the point spread's at three.
07:35I bet Atlanta earlier in the week.
07:37Talked about it on my show earlier this week at plus three and a half.
07:40It's not an anti-Chiefs bet.
07:42I think Kansas City is the best team.
07:44I think they will three-peat and win the Super Bowl.
07:46But we're now seeing a situation with Kansas City.
07:48And we saw this last week where the Chiefs should have lost in the game to Cincinnati.
07:52Like, they should have lost that game.
07:53They end up winning 26-25.
07:55Where Isaiah Pacheco, their starting running back, is out six to eight weeks now.
07:59Fractured fibula.
08:00And I don't know how they're going to replace him in the run game.
08:02It's a bunch of, like, curtain jerking jabronis running the ball for Kansas City.
08:06Hollywood Brown is, like, not a great player.
08:08But he's a field stretcher, right?
08:10And he was going to be an important part of the passing game, a receiver.
08:13He's out for the rest of the regular season, maybe the whole season.
08:16So, I think we might see a situation where the Chiefs will look similar like they did last year.
08:21Where, like, they're still going to win games.
08:23But maybe they can't win games by margin.
08:25Like, have the offensive firepower needed to pull away and win games by seven, ten points.
08:30So, I bet Falcons plus three and a half at three.
08:33No bet on the game for me.
08:34I would not begrudge you if you wanted to bet Kansas City.
08:37They talked about this during the game last night.
08:39Sorry, Wiggy.
08:40But which rookie quarterback would you wager throws his first touchdown pass this season?
08:46Well, I guess, like, we'll probably see Caleb and Daniels both throw one this week is my guess.
08:50Okay.
08:51Go ahead, Wiggy.
08:52No, Nick.
08:53I was going to say.
08:54Not Bo Nicks.
08:55We're keeping our eye on this one because if we're Belichick fans, you just want to see where he might potentially land.
09:02Saints-Eagles.
09:04Are the Saints for real?
09:05And are the Eagles maybe potentially going to be in the direction of where they're going to be looking towards replacing Nick Ceriani?
09:15The second part of that question.
09:17If this keeps up, like, definitely yes.
09:19Definitely yes.
09:20And just, I don't want to turn this into an Eagles thing, but this is now, this is the second consecutive season where Nick Ceriani has had two different, like, an offensive and a defensive coordinator different from the season prior.
09:32Did you get that from David Field?
09:34David did tell me that.
09:35Okay.
09:36He also clued me into Britton Covey's usage this past Monday night where he went over his receiving guards prop, which was really nice.
09:43I think Ceriani, if this keeps up, like, he's not going to get fired if they get blown out by New Orleans.
09:48Like, that's not going to happen.
09:49And I also think Philly's too talented of a team to achieve, like, a true disaster outcome this season.
09:54But yeah, like, you know, they go nine and eight or something losing the first rounds of the playoffs like they did last year.
09:59He's definitely getting fired.
10:01And maybe Belichick would take that job.
10:03I am just saying, you know, my team's kind of a disaster.
10:07Come home, Bill.
10:08I'd love to see Bill on my sidelines.
10:10Got no quarterback.
10:12Right now we don't.
10:13But, like, then we draft one because we're going to have a top five pick next year because we suck.
10:17We're horrible.
10:18Anyway, Eagles and Saints.
10:20Betting market doesn't know what to do right now, Wiggy, with the Saints.
10:23And this actually, like, even if you don't bet, anyone out there, I think this is interesting because we all, like, we watch games.
10:29We play fantasy.
10:30Maybe you bet.
10:31New Orleans has wildly exceeded expectations through the first two games.
10:36Their offensive coordinator, Clint Kubiak, Gary's son, obviously, if they keep this up,
10:41he will be a head coach in the NFL next season.
10:44And we see this every year where there's a team early that just crushes expectations,
10:49and no one knows what to do with them, right?
10:51Because would anyone be shocked if the Eagles won this game on Sunday?
10:54Like, probably not.
10:55Also, would you be shocked if the Saints won this game by 10?
10:58I don't think you can be at this point.
11:00So it's all a big guess.
11:02My guess is is that New Orleans is actually good, and it's a rough spot for Philly here without A.J. Brown.
11:08Now, I haven't texted Mr. Field yet.
11:10So I can't give you my full pick on this game, but I would lay the points with the New Orleans Saints if I had to bet it.
11:15So, Kostos, Bryce Young got benched this week.
11:18Andy Dalton is now going to start for the Carolina Panthers.
11:20Last time he started a game for the Panthers, he threw the ball 58 times in a game and threw for over 300 yards.
11:26I kind of like the Panthers getting five points just because of the change at quarterback.
11:31Like, it's one of those, like, first coach fire bumps that you get sometimes in the middle of the season.
11:36How are you feeling about that?
11:37Yeah, so that was the game you referenced.
11:39That was last year, week three, on the road in Seattle, albeit with a different coaching staff with Frank Reich.
11:44Sure.
11:45And look, like, Dalton's not – I'll say this about Carolina.
11:48Like, Dalton is not good.
11:50He's probably, like, slightly below average, which makes him 500 times better than Bryce Young.
11:56So, like, the Panthers will be – they will be elevated from the worst team ever to just, like, a normal bad team in the NFL, I think is what you'll get from Carolina.
12:05Shine, my sense is what's going to happen here with Carolina.
12:08We've seen this each of the first two weeks.
12:10I think that as Sunday comes along, both because Dalton's in the lineup and also it's betting the rate – like, this is more what it's about, I think, is having to trust Antonio Pierce.
12:22Like, as a big favorite in a game where he loves to kick field goals and pump the ball, I think we're going to see Carolina get bet as we approach kickoff on Sunday.
12:30And if we ever get to Raiders minus four, I'm unloading on the Raiders here.
12:37I think the Panthers are the fake sharp team of the year where people are going to talk themselves into this team every week, and they are horrendous.
12:45They're awful.
12:46Pride and poise, commitment to excellence, just cover, baby.
12:49Raiders minus four will be a bet for me if it happens this weekend.
12:52All right, Nick.
12:53As always, it is a pleasure to get your insight.
12:56Thank you so much.
12:58Greg, I have to tell you, man, you're great.
13:00Your show is great.
13:02It's highly rated.
13:03I love being here.
13:04Wishing you and you alone minimal sweats winning bets.
13:06The absolute very best of luck.
13:08Nick, thank you so much.
13:09He's never had minimal sweats.
13:10There he is.
13:11Check out those pits.
13:12That is Nick Kostos, the host of You Better You Bet, an Odyssey sports betting insider.
