00:00Former Law Minister Zayed Ibrahim has called for the Religious Affairs Ministry to shift its focus

00:07to curbing the sexual abuse of young boys at welfare homes run by religious organisations

00:13rather than making halal certification mandatory for eateries.

00:17In a post on X, Zayed said many young boys have been traumatised and abused across Malaysia,

00:23yet the Religious Affairs Minister is only interested in halal certificates.

00:28He was referring to Religious Affairs Minister Naeem Mokhtar's recent announcement that the

00:33Islamic Development Department was considering making halal certification mandatory for certain

00:39restaurants and food operators. Zayed proposed that JAKIM officers be stationed at all religious

00:45and tafiz schools, similar to how religious departments and moral police monitor khalwat

00:51cases. He also called for JAKIM to set aside some of its RM1.5 billion government allocation

00:57to curb the sodomy epidemic by telling Muslims that Islam views the offence seriously.

01:04He also suggested that Sharia courts step up the prosecution of cases involving the

01:09sodomy of young boys and called on leaders to devise transparent measures to protect them.

01:15Zayed's post comes in the wake of a raid on 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan

01:21where children are said to have been sodomised or taught to sexually assault others.
