00:00:22How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:00:30What's on the graphic now G Maria is it 38 is it 28 mile-per-hour winds
00:01:00Welcome back windy day in New England 56 degrees 26 mile-per-hour winds
00:01:07Hi everybody. I'm Gus Johnson along with my partner Brent Jones. The Indianapolis Colts are explosive
00:01:12They've combined for 87 points in two games right now. They can do no wrong
00:01:16Well, the big question is how long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:19Well, the starting lineups in the opening kick
00:01:21How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:23How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:25How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:27How long is this a 30-second commercial

00:01:47How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:49How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:51How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:53How long is this a 30-second commercial
00:01:55Brady, the cool California kid
00:01:57He had a lot of confidence when we talked to him
00:01:59He said he's been running this offense since the day he walked in the door
00:02:02Feels very comfortable with it
00:02:04He's going to have to have some receivers make some plays, though
00:02:06If the Patriots are going to hang with this high-powered offense of the Colts
00:02:09All right, Brent, the series note
00:02:11The Patriots lead the series 37-24
00:02:14Endy, though, has won two of the last three
00:02:17And the last time the Colts won here in Foxboro
00:02:19was in 1995, 24-10
00:02:22Jim Harbaugh, the quarterback for Indianapolis
00:02:24So Hunter Smith will kick it off
00:02:26New England has won the toss and have elected to receive the football
00:02:31Kevin Falk, the return man, wears number 33
00:02:35His back team for the Patriots
00:02:40So a windy day, as we mentioned
00:02:42Look at the flags
00:02:4328-mile-per-hour winds, but I would imagine, Brent, that
00:02:46at the top of the stadium, it's even windier
00:02:49Yeah, that's going to really be an advantage, Gus, for the Patriots
00:02:52This vaunted passing game at the Indianapolis Colts
00:02:55could be slowed down going into that wind
00:02:58So here we go
00:02:59Indianapolis, New England, and we're underway from Foxboro
00:03:05Falk inside his own five
00:03:09And the former Bayou Bengal gets over the 25
00:03:12up to the 27-yard line, a return of 25 yards
00:03:16So Tom Brady gets his first career start in the National Football League
00:03:20at quarterback
00:03:21He saw action against the Detroit Lions last season
00:03:25and completed one of three passes
00:03:27Came in for Drew Bledsoe last week in the fourth quarter
00:03:29Tell us about him, what does he bring to the table?
00:03:31Well, we watched him in practice Friday
00:03:33Made all the throws, has strong enough arm to hit that out route
00:03:35and really feels confident
00:03:37In fact, wasn't nervous at all, I was kind of surprised
00:03:39First down and 10 from the 28-yard line
00:03:42And Brady back to pass
00:03:45And he's sacked on the first play of the game
00:03:47Brett Scioli, third year man out of Penn State
00:03:51Getting to Brady
00:03:53And the Patriots are dropped for a huge loss
00:03:58And here's the offensive line, just beaten
00:04:00Up front, Leite, the rookie out of Purdue
00:04:02Compton, Damian Woody playing with the neck injury
00:04:04Andrewsie and Greg Robinson-Randall
00:04:07Backs and receivers, Antoine Smith and Mark Edwards
00:04:10Along with Troy Brown
00:04:12Here is Smith running over the left side
00:04:16Gets up to the 25-yard line
00:04:18Rob Morris, the middle linebacker there
00:04:20To trip him up
00:04:22This Indianapolis defense, they are in the shadows
00:04:25Of the great Indianapolis offense
00:04:27But these guys are playing with a chip on their shoulders
00:04:30Scioli, Williams, Johnson and Chad Bratsky
00:04:33Who is the sackmaster for the Colts
00:04:35Washington Morris and Mike Peterson
00:04:37And the secondary, Burris, the former Bill
00:04:39Macklin with Kota and Bashir, a rookie
00:04:42At safety
00:04:44Third down and 12 from the 25
00:04:47They need to go to the 38 for a first down
00:04:49Play action, Brady, with time
00:04:52Throwing underneath incomplete
00:04:55David Patton wide open
00:04:57And Brady unable to put it on him
00:05:02You see Tom Brady get some pressure
00:05:04But you gotta set your feet and just make the throw
00:05:07Nobody around
00:05:09You see the defender fall down
00:05:10Here comes Patton, the ball just sails over his head
00:05:12And maybe that's part of the win
00:05:14Brady thinks he has to put some extra zip on it
00:05:17A little excited coming out early
00:05:19Just make that throw
00:05:20I was gonna say, nervous jitters
00:05:22His first throw of the game
00:05:24And Terrence Wilkins, dangerous return man
00:05:26Lee Johnson sends it away
00:05:28End-over-end kick
00:05:29Wilkins scoops it up at the 31-yard line
00:05:32Drops it, breaks it inside
00:05:35And the Patriots get to him
00:05:38Nice special-teams tackle made by Gerard Cherry
00:05:4144-yard punt, 3-yard return
00:05:44And here comes Peyton Manning
00:05:46And I think already you can call him the great one
00:05:49He is the straw that stirs the drink for this Indianapolis offense
00:05:53And you made it very apparent right there, Gus
00:05:55It's tough to break any new ground when you're talking about Peyton Manning
00:05:58Great deep ball, great underneath, great knowledge of the system
00:06:02As good as play-action fakers there is in the league
00:06:05It's just running a great offense
00:06:08First down and 10 from the 33-yard line
00:06:12Here's Manning calling the play at the line of scrimmage
00:06:20They hand it off to Edgerin James over the right side
00:06:23And James gets to the 36-yard line before being chopped down
00:06:28Ty Law on the left corner with the tackle
00:06:31Last week, 555 yards in offense for this Indianapolis squad
00:06:36Glenn McKinney, Saturday Moore, and Meadows
00:06:39Backs and receivers, Edgerin James, Marvin Harrison, dangerous
00:06:42But the big guy this season so far, Jerome Peyton
00:06:46He is the third option for this Indianapolis team
00:06:50Second and six from the 37, Manning underneath
00:06:54Peyton with the reception, and he is leveled
00:06:57Brian Cox almost took his head off
00:07:01What a hit by Cox, the former Jet
00:07:06And as a linebacker, that's what you look for
00:07:08Receivers running routes underneath, not looking for you
00:07:10You see Brian Cox, full speed, bang, leading with the head
00:07:15And Jerome Peyton just bows right up
00:07:17And he's running off to the sidelines right now
00:07:19I don't know if he's getting a breather or if he's just shaking up a little bit
00:07:23Third down and one for the Colts
00:07:26At their own 42-yard line
00:07:29Out of the I-formation, here comes the blitz
00:07:32They hand it to James, he won't get it
00:07:35He will not get it, Roman Pfeiffer, first man to him
00:07:40And the Patriots with a nice stand on defense
00:07:45You see the surge right side of the Patriots defensive line
00:07:48You see Pfeiffer getting in there, bouncing off the block
00:07:50And just sticking with it
00:07:54So Hunter Smith comes in to punt
00:07:56He did not attempt a punt last week versus Buffalo
00:08:01Colts went on to win the game 42-26
00:08:04They had 35 points in the first half of play
00:08:08So Troy Brown is back deep
00:08:10Smith, low line drive
00:08:14And that one gets into the end zone for a touchback
00:08:18A 58-yard punt
00:08:20A net of 38 yards
00:08:22So coming up, young Tom Brady gets another opportunity
00:08:26For the Patriots
00:08:31...each week at this time
00:08:32WBCN brings you the WBCN seat upgrade
00:08:37Good job
00:08:38Good job, man
00:08:41...into the WBCN seats
00:08:44He's back
00:08:46If you are seated in section 315
00:08:51Yes
00:08:52Row 10
00:08:54Seats 1 and 2
00:08:57That's a game changer
00:08:59They actually are calling that
00:09:01Remember they said if you're going to lead with your head
00:09:03I mean, he clearly did
00:09:06That's a game changer, though
00:09:08You know what I'm saying?
00:09:09A de-cleater
00:09:10Yeah, it was
00:09:14We've got to show that hit again
00:09:15Where's Payton?
00:09:22You want to wear my coat?
00:09:23Nah, I'm alright
00:09:25Let's talk for a second
00:09:26What?
00:09:30Jeez
00:09:32Where are the Patriots?
00:09:36Man, it doesn't get any easier for New England
00:09:39They play Indianapolis
00:09:41Then they travel to play Miami next week
00:09:43San Diego
00:09:45And then Indianapolis
00:09:48Colts trying to go 3-0 in the division
00:09:51For the first time since 1980
00:09:54For the Patriots
00:09:55Huge game
00:09:56Next week they travel to play another divisional foe
00:10:03Do we have sound?
00:10:04You got sound on that?
00:10:10He may have a concussion
00:10:12What's he sitting down there by himself?
00:10:15That's what I'm saying
00:10:16Payton
00:10:26Jerome Payton receiving that tremendous blow from Brian Cox
00:10:29The 11-year veteran
00:10:31And the Patriots have it at their own 20-yard line
00:10:34They run the reverse
00:10:35Troy Brown over the right side
00:10:37Gets to the 25, making the 26-yard line
00:10:41A gain of 7 yards
00:10:42Marcus Washington with the tackle
00:10:44Let's take another look at the hit
00:10:46And when you catch balls over the middle of the field
00:10:47You gotta catch that and get your shoulders upfield
00:10:50Don't stay, turn around
00:10:51And you see him get hung up in the air just a little bit
00:10:53And that allows Brian Cox to deliver a blow
00:10:58Leader
00:10:59But Payton doing a tremendous job
00:11:01Hanging on to the football
00:11:03Second down three from the 27
00:11:05Troy Brown lining up in the backfield
00:11:07Here's Brady down the seam
00:11:09Almost picked off
00:11:11Wobbly pass attended for David Patton
00:11:14David Macklin covering
00:11:16And the standings in the AFC East
00:11:18Indianapolis trying to go to 3-0 in the division
00:11:21For the first time since 1980
00:11:23Huge game for New England, Brent
00:11:25They travel to Miami next week to take on another division opponent
00:11:29And we talked to a couple of the Patriots in Game 3
00:11:31You don't want to say it's a must win
00:11:32But they came out and said it
00:11:33Hey, for our team, this is a must win
00:11:35And Gus, you see that win's gonna affect Tom Brady
00:11:37That last ball was floated
00:11:40Third down and three from the 27
00:11:42They need to go to the 30 for a first down
00:11:45Brady short drop to the sideline
00:11:47Throws a strike out of bounds
00:11:49Edswan Smith, terrific grab
00:11:51And gets the first down, a gain of seven
00:11:56And for a young quarterback like Brady
00:11:59He needs to get his rhythm going early
00:12:01And that time, Gus, he just stepped up
00:12:03Three-step drop, and you talked about rhythm
00:12:05Watch him step into this pass and deliver it
00:12:07Perfect spiral, tight, right on the outside
00:12:10And that's a tough throw all the way outside there
00:12:13Into the wind
00:12:15You see Chad Bradsky, he's gonna be a guy that's gonna be in the backfield all day
00:12:20First down and ten
00:12:21Edswan Smith, again, gets to the 35, making the 36
00:12:26So Tom Brady, the last time he started a game was in the Orange Bowl
00:12:30When he played for the University of Michigan
00:12:32Taking on Alabama
00:12:34And in that game, he went 34-46
00:12:37For 369 yards, four touchdowns
00:12:40As the Wolverines won it 35-34
00:12:43Very confident in his throwing abilities
00:12:45He told us yesterday that he really liked the matchups with three and four wide receivers
00:12:49He's got three wide receivers in the game right now
00:12:51Had that big game in the Orange Bowl
00:12:53Maybe he can replicate it today
00:12:55Second down and eight, 36
00:12:59Brady short drop again
00:13:01Towards the sideline, Charles Johnson, the intended receiver
00:13:04A little too much mustard on it
00:13:07Bill Belichick told us one of the keys to this game for this Patriots team
00:13:11Is to stay at a third and long
00:13:13You've gotta get some yards on first and second down
00:13:15Third and long is gonna hurt him with this blitz scheme of the Indianapolis Colts
00:13:19And also one of the things the Patriots have to do today
00:13:21Is hold on to the ball, move the chains
00:13:23Not have that Colts offense on the field
00:13:26Ringing up big points
00:13:27Third down and eight from the 36
00:13:29They need to go to the 44 for a first down
00:13:34Kevin Faulk in the backfield
00:13:35Patent in motion
00:13:36Brady
00:13:37Deep drop
00:13:38To the sideline
00:13:39Nice throw
00:13:40Beautiful catch
00:13:41Troy Brown
00:13:42But a flag on the play
00:13:44It's a gain of 12
00:13:45And the flag is in the backfield
00:13:48And it will go against New England
00:13:55And it calls a legal block
00:13:57Below the waist
00:13:58That's usually a chop block
00:13:59Personal fall
00:14:00Chop block
00:14:0277-72 offense
00:14:05That's a 15-yard penalty
00:14:07That's a 15-yard penalty
00:14:09That's a 15-yard penalty
00:14:11That's a 15-yard penalty
00:14:13That's a 15-yard penalty
00:14:15That's a 15-yard penalty
00:14:17Repeat third down
00:14:19Mike Compton
00:14:27Watch these guys right here
00:14:28Compton and Matt Light
00:14:30Once you're engaged with a defensive player
00:14:32You can't go low
00:14:33You see two guys engaged
00:14:35And you see Compton go low
00:14:36And that's for the benefit of the players
00:14:39Try to keep them healthy out there
00:14:40That's a chop block
00:14:41You gotta know if you got somebody helping you
00:14:44You can't go below the waist
00:14:45Third down and a long 23
00:14:48Drop leg
00:14:49Knocked
00:14:50Breaks it back
00:14:51Looking for daylight
00:14:53Gets all the way up to the 34-yard line
00:14:55Before Corey Bird catches him
00:14:59And another flag on the play
00:15:00This time at the end of the play
00:15:03After a 12-yard gain
00:15:06Boy, if that's a late hit against the Colts
00:15:08That's gonna give the Patriots a first down
00:15:12I'm not sure
00:15:13Nothing looked that late to me
00:15:17Another personal foul against New England
00:15:26Patriots had nine penalties last week
00:15:28And they've been hurting themselves
00:15:29They've been getting 10 and 15 yarders
00:15:32They've gotta be more disciplined
00:15:37Bill Belichick upset with Greg
00:15:39With Rugemer, rather
00:15:40Personal foul
00:15:42Unnecessary roughness
00:15:4367
00:15:44Penalty is declined
00:15:46Fourth down
00:15:47And that is Gray Rugemer
00:15:49The second-year man out of Arizona
00:15:53It's one thing to be aggressive
00:15:55And it's another to be stupid
00:15:57Patriots have had a lot of stupid penalties thus far
00:15:59In the first couple games of the year
00:16:00They've gotta be smarter than that
00:16:02Got Drew Bledsoe out
00:16:04Things haven't been going well
00:16:05You gotta play smart ball
00:16:07Lee Johnson stands at his 0-19
00:16:09Wilkins at the 25
00:16:13Wobbly kick
00:16:14Wilkins
00:16:15From the 26
00:16:17Wilkins
00:16:19Bottled up and taken down at the 28-yard line
00:16:2237-yard punt, 3-yard return
00:16:24Mike Rabel with the special team's tackle
00:16:27Here comes Fate Manning and company
00:16:29Right after this
00:16:37Yeah, show it, though
00:16:38I think you should show it, though
00:16:41What'd he do stupid?
00:16:46At the top?
00:16:47Oh, yeah
00:16:48Yeah
00:16:4960-67, right?
00:16:51Yeah
00:16:52Yeah, I see it
00:16:53Yeah
00:16:56That's not even
00:16:57No, it's not
00:17:01Yeah
00:17:02That's what we said, stupid plays
00:17:04But it's
00:17:05Yeah, show it
00:17:06It's declined
00:17:07It's meaningless
00:17:08Oh, okay
00:17:15Guys, we gotta
00:17:18I'm gonna get to it first before we show it
00:17:20We gotta talk about Drew Bledsoe
00:17:27Patriots defense
00:17:28And you know what else?
00:17:29We have yet to talk about the no huddle
00:17:31And we're gonna look like fools if we're
00:17:33If they're running it
00:17:34And we're not talking about it
00:17:35Can you hand me my
00:17:43Yes, I'm soft
00:17:45And I'm proud of it
00:17:50All right
00:18:05Let's go
00:18:26Welcome back to Foxborough
00:18:28And Jim Mora, the head coach of the Colts
00:18:31Took over in 1998
00:18:32In the last three years
00:18:33He's 25-9
00:18:37And has it rolling in Indy
00:18:39First and ten from the 29
00:18:43Andrew and James, the single setback
00:18:51Play action
00:18:52Manning down the middle
00:18:53Payton with the catch
00:18:54This time he gets down
00:18:56Inside New England territory
00:18:58A gate of 22
00:18:59And here comes the no huddle
00:19:01Quickly, we'll take a look at the
00:19:03Patriots defense
00:19:04Hamilton, Mitchell, Pleasant, and Roman Pfeiffer
00:19:07Linebackers
00:19:08Raymond Cox
00:19:09Teddy Bruschi in the secondary
00:19:11Ty Law's gonna have his hands full
00:19:13With Marvin Harrison today
00:19:15First and ten
00:19:16From the New England 49
00:19:26Andrew and James
00:19:27Sweeping over the left side
00:19:29Cuts it up
00:19:30And he gets to the 43
00:19:33And the Colts have had great success
00:19:35With the no huddle this year
00:19:36Have ran it almost exclusively
00:19:37You see them right now on the ball
00:19:39Now remember, the no huddle isn't necessarily
00:19:41A two-minute hurry-up offense
00:19:43But it doesn't allow the defense
00:19:44To get the substitutions in
00:19:46So they like the matchups
00:19:47The Colts love their matchups
00:19:48That they have right now
00:19:50James once again
00:19:52Tripped up
00:19:53Short of the 40 by Anthony Pleasant
00:19:56And see, it's gonna be tough for us, Gus
00:19:58Because sometimes they'll snap the ball quickly
00:20:00Like Peyton Manning did right there
00:20:01And sometimes they'll wait till the clock runs down
00:20:03He likes to get a read on the defense
00:20:05See what he's got
00:20:06They've got great hand signals
00:20:08Outside to the receivers
00:20:09He's got one word that alerts the offensive linemen
00:20:12What type of play is coming up
00:20:13And so they've done a great job
00:20:15They've done this, they've tinkered with it
00:20:16For three or four years
00:20:17And now they've become masters
00:20:19Of running this on the ball offense
00:20:21Third down and short
00:20:22They need a yard at the 41
00:20:25Out of the offset line
00:20:28James the deep man
00:20:30Manning
00:20:31To the sideline
00:20:35Ken Dilger
00:20:37The intended receiver
00:20:38And here comes the punt team once again
00:20:40For the Colts
00:20:42Good sign for the Patriots early on
00:20:44Well they've hung tough with them
00:20:45And that's what they want to do
00:20:47And you see Ken Dilger's gonna catch the ball
00:20:49Actually just a little bit behind him
00:20:50He has to turn his hips
00:20:51And what he's trying to do is get back around
00:20:53Because he's about a yard short of that first down marker
00:20:56He's trying to turn those hips
00:20:57And get his momentum going upfield
00:20:59But with doing that he took his eyes off the ball
00:21:02Troy Brown back deep
00:21:10Hunter Smith
00:21:11Standing at the 44
00:21:13High snap
00:21:14Handle
00:21:15Smith gets off the beautiful punt
00:21:17Headed for the end zone
00:21:19And that one heads into the back of the end zone
00:21:21Flags all over the place
00:21:23A 41 yard punt
00:21:24A 21 yard net
00:21:27Hunter's gotta take a little bit off that big leg
00:21:29He's got the wind at his back
00:21:30And it's really swirling up there
00:21:33And this one will go against
00:21:36Indianapolis
00:21:37Declined
00:21:38By Bill Belichick
00:21:40And we'll take a timeout
00:21:427.08 to go
00:21:43First quarter of play
00:21:44No score
00:21:45From New England
00:21:5614-41
00:21:58Is the only player here from Troy
00:22:01Bill Belichick
00:22:02And the last of the Patriots
00:22:04Patriots Monday
00:22:07Now let's talk about Drew Bledsoe
00:22:10Can we talk about Drew Bledsoe?
00:22:12Yeah
00:22:22Oh
00:22:23Man, it sounds like
00:22:24It sounds like a nasty injury for you to say you talk to me
00:22:30for all I can say is it shook him up.
00:22:36I think this injury shook him up a little bit.
00:22:38Well it looks like he's lost weight.
00:22:39Yeah, he did look a little skinny on the sideline.
00:23:09He had a tear of an artery inside his ribcage.
00:23:29It's not mine is it?
00:23:31It's my wife.
00:23:43Drew Bledsoe out of the lineup today.
00:23:45He spent four days on his back after a crushing sideline hit last Sunday by
00:23:51New York Jets linebacker Mo Lewis.
00:23:56And Bledsoe suffered internal bleeding due to a tear of an
00:24:07artery inside his ribcage.
00:24:14Quarterback did not offer a time table on when he returned to the game.
00:24:17I talked to him before the game and you could tell that this whole ordeal is
00:24:21shaking him up a little bit.
00:24:23He's a very strong and confident man but it scared him a little bit.
00:24:26Yeah, I don't blame him.
00:24:27He's the toughest quarterback there's been in the National Football League
00:24:29these last five or six years.
00:24:31Here's a reverse pat.
00:24:32Looking for blockers.
00:24:33Pat turns on the afterburners and gets to the 41-yard line.
00:24:38Jeff Burris with the tackle.
00:24:41Always speeding through the highlights.
00:24:43Jim Nantz in New York.
00:24:57All right, Jim.
00:24:58So, Kurt Warner and the St. Louis Rams getting it going.
00:25:01Last week, Peyton Manning, after throwing an interception on the first
00:25:05series, scored on six consecutive series.
00:25:09Five in the first half.
00:25:10They racked up 35 points in that first half.
00:25:13So, a good sign for this New England squad, Brent.
00:25:16They forced them off the field on their first couple of drives today.
00:25:19And that's what they need to keep doing.
00:25:21And that's really a positive sign.
00:25:22It speaks to this New England's defense.
00:25:26They have been much improved this year.
00:25:28Now they've got to get the offense rolling.
00:25:30And you see Antoine Smith get nine yards in that first down here a couple
00:25:33of plays ago.
00:25:34That's so important.
00:25:35It gives you an opportunity to run some other plays.
00:25:37Second and eight from the 42.
00:25:39Brady underneath.
00:25:40Caught by his big tight end, Wiggins.
00:25:42And he rumbles for a first down.
00:25:44Downed at the 46-yard line.
00:25:51Gain of 11 yards.
00:25:53And watch Wiggins right here.
00:25:54The big tight end.
00:25:55A little bit more known for his receiving than his blocking.
00:25:57Or actually, he was the inside guy.
00:26:00He just runs a little stick route right there.
00:26:02Tom Brady said he liked the three- and four-line receivers.
00:26:06And they're throwing everything they can right now, this Indianapolis Colts
00:26:09defense.
00:26:10On the 47 to pitch.
00:26:11Antoine Smith with the running rope.
00:26:14Smith down the sideline.
00:26:16Smith still running.
00:26:18Out of bounds inside the five.
00:26:21A flag on the play.
00:26:22Should be a face mask against Indianapolis.
00:26:26But a gain of 44 yards.
00:26:29Gus, that's Antoine Smith that we saw a few years back in Buffalo.
00:26:34And he's had a couple of big carries already today.
00:26:36But look at this offensive line.
00:26:38Look at Matt Light, big number 72.
00:26:40Get out there, clear the way.
00:26:41Takes Macklin out.
00:26:42There's no corner support.
00:26:43And there's Antoine Smith getting the stiff arm up.
00:26:46Little face mask.
00:26:47And running with some authority.
00:26:49Look at this balance, Gus.
00:26:50Look at him trying to stay in bounds.
00:26:52Very impressive.
00:26:53And that's the Antoine Smith that this New England team needs to see.
00:26:57They need to have him back and confident like he was a couple years ago
00:27:02when he was the man in Buffalo.
00:27:04In 97 and 98, he led the Bills in rushing.
00:27:07In 98, he had a 1,000-yard season.
00:27:12And they say it was a 39-yard run.
00:27:14And the Patriots have it inside the Colts five.
00:27:18Smith lines up in the backfield.
00:27:21First down and goal at the 4.
00:27:25Antoine Smith looking for the score.
00:27:28He gets it.
00:27:29Watch the left side of the line.
00:27:49Big Matt light.
00:27:50Mike Compton just pushing.
00:27:53Jermaine Wiggin pushing that Colts defense three and four yards back.
00:27:58And that's something that the Patriots haven't had yet this year.
00:28:04So Antoine Smith with the touchdown.
00:28:08So far, five carries, 61 yards.
00:28:11Adam Medetary comes on to attempt the extra point, which is good.
00:28:16Antoine Smith, the first rushing touchdown of the season for the former
00:28:21Buffalo Bill.
00:28:22Little double-team on Chad Braske just knocking him back,
00:28:26clearing the hole for Antoine Smith.
00:28:43Always a great scene here in New England.
00:28:46Great atmosphere.
00:28:48We've got to talk about the Colts' lack of success here.
00:28:51Because they're giving up per game, rushing yards, average per game.
00:28:56They're giving up 141 rushing yards per game.
00:29:00They average 145 and they have 1,000 yards back, but they're giving up 141
00:29:05rushing yards per game.
00:29:07Is that right?
00:29:08Look at this stat right here.
00:29:10Opponents rushing.
00:29:11Look at what it says.
00:29:13Rushing yards is 141.
00:29:15That's opponents, right?
00:29:16Yeah.
00:29:17So they rush for 141 yards.
00:29:19Yeah.
00:29:31Did you tell me the wrong receiver in that replay or did I circle the wrong
00:29:34guy?
00:29:35I don't know.
00:29:38Did you guys do a bunch in San Francisco?
00:29:40Yeah.
00:29:41Joe Gibbs started that, right?
00:29:43I don't know.
00:29:45I don't know.
00:30:15Welcome back to Foxboro.
00:30:25A lot of enthusiasm in the stands as the Patriots drive at 80 yards.
00:30:30Six plays.
00:30:32They ate up close to three minutes.
00:30:34And Antoine Smith with the four-yard touchdown.
00:30:38And the big play, that 39-yard run.
00:30:41Wilkins picks it up at the 14-yard line.
00:30:44Wilkins is wrapped up at the 38.
00:30:47Ball squirts out.
00:30:48Ball squirts out, but they say he was down.
00:30:52T.J. Turner with the special team's tackle.
00:30:57And Indianapolis will take over with pretty decent field position at the
00:31:0238-yard line.
00:31:06Back to Foxboro after this.
00:31:21Oh, I don't know.
00:31:22He was down.
00:31:23Shoulder hit.
00:31:25Is it the shoulder or the knee?
00:31:27Or does it matter?
00:31:28Any part of the body.
00:31:30A stand.
00:31:44Let's get the Marvin Harrison matchup going.
00:31:48There's a trend that's been starting.
00:31:50It looks like Peyton.
00:31:52Peyton looks for Peyton early.
00:31:55And then he hits you with big plays to Marvin.
00:31:59A little later.
00:32:01He told us.
00:32:03No, it wasn't.
00:32:04He told us what?
00:32:05He told us that the Belichick style of defense is going to have to take
00:32:09underneath a lot of patience.
00:32:22Yeah.
00:32:29Yeah.
00:32:45What?
00:32:47What do we need?
00:32:49Oh, we're doing it on camera?
00:32:51What are we talking about?
00:32:53Oh.
00:32:59Patriots lead the Colts 7-0 here in the first quarter of play.
00:33:04Indianapolis with the football at their own 39, first down.
00:33:12Here's Manning to the sideline.
00:33:15Low throw.
00:33:16Incomplete.
00:33:17Incomplete as Otis Smith picks up the football and races towards
00:33:21the end zone.
00:33:23Peyton the intended receiver.
00:33:26And I'm just wondering if that ball didn't stay
00:33:28on top of Jerome Peyton.
00:33:32Let's see.
00:33:33He's got it right there.
00:33:34They're saying the ball was down.
00:33:36Ah, it did touch.
00:33:38Otis Smith making it look really good.
00:33:42Second down and 10 from the 39-yard line.
00:33:47Manning out of the shotgun.
00:33:50Here's Wilkins on the hit.
00:33:52Strucks it across the field.
00:33:54And gets to the 45.
00:33:56Gain of six as Teddy Bruschi trips him up.

00:34:06Just go to NFL.com or AOL keyword NFL.com.
00:34:11Third and four from the 45.
00:34:13They need to go to the 49 for a first down.
00:34:17They have not converted on third down as of yet.
00:34:23Manning underneath again.
00:34:26Wilkins great catch.
00:34:28And they pick up the first down as he gains seven.
00:34:32Peyton told us yesterday when we talked to him
00:34:34that with this Bill Belichick style of defense,
00:34:37he's going to have to work underneath a whole lot today.
00:34:39You've got to be patient.
00:34:40You've got to take those five and six-yard routes
00:34:42and get those New England defenders closing in on it
00:34:44and then take your chances up top.
00:34:46Marvin Harrison without a question.
00:34:48Marvin Harrison without a catch so far.
00:34:50First and ten from the 48.
00:35:02Andrew James.
00:35:04And James racked up by Brian Cox.
00:35:10Another big shot from Brian Cox.
00:35:12That's the second big hit he's had today.
00:35:14You can feel it all the way up here.
00:35:16Brings it up to second down and eight.
00:35:18Quick pace for this Colts team.
00:35:21They need to go to the 38 for a first down.
00:35:29Patriots showing glitz.
00:35:30Now they back off.
00:35:39Manning.
00:35:40Marvin Harrison incomplete.
00:35:42Had it and dropped it.
00:35:44Brian Cox is going after everybody
00:35:46that comes close to the middle this afternoon.
00:35:48And don't think that Marvin Harrison wasn't aware
00:35:50of Brian Cox coming from the inside out
00:35:52after that Payton shot.
00:35:54And you know Marvin Harrison's saying,
00:35:56don't lead me to Brian Cox.
00:35:58You see him duck his head.
00:36:00Actually dropped the ball before Brian Cox got there.
00:36:02Third down and eight from the 46.
00:36:04They need to go to the 38 for a first down.
00:36:10Manning out of the way.
00:36:12Manning out of the shotgun.
00:36:14Three receiver package.
00:36:18Manning looking.
00:36:20Tipped.
00:36:21Incomplete.
00:36:23Wilkins the intended receiver
00:36:25and the Colts come up empty once again.
00:36:31And Romeo Cronel, great strategy.
00:36:34So far the defensive coordinator
00:36:36for the Patriots.
00:36:38Works hand in hand with Bill Belichick.
00:36:41So Hunter Smith,
00:36:43two punts today,
00:36:45both for touchbacks.
00:36:47Troy Brown back deep,
00:36:49standing inside his own ten.
00:36:59Gets it away.
00:37:01And Brown
00:37:03with a fair call at the nine yard line.
00:37:05A 38 yard punt.
00:37:11Tonight on CBS,
00:37:13see why the critics are praising
00:37:15the education of Max Bickford.
00:37:17Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss
00:37:19stars in the education of Max Bickford
00:37:21tonight after 60 minutes on CBS.
00:37:25And what did Richard Dreyfuss
00:37:27win the Oscar for?
00:37:29Brent Jones?
00:37:31You know I already know that.
00:37:33I'm a Richard Dreyfuss fan.
00:37:35Oh my man.
00:37:37Always prepared.
00:37:39There you go.
00:37:411978, first down to ten
00:37:43from the nine.
00:37:45Antoine Smith cuts it back
00:37:47but he's chopped down.
00:37:49Great job by Chad Cota
00:37:51coming in and making the tackle.
00:37:53Cota in his seventh year out of Oregon.
00:37:55Former New Orleans Saint
00:37:57as well as Carolina Panther.
00:37:59And we've seen this Patriots team
00:38:01with all their success has been running to the left.
00:38:03And that's where Antoine Smith's gone.
00:38:05You see Chad Cota there
00:38:07leading that defense for the Indianapolis Colts
00:38:09the old veteran.
00:38:11Got some range and he's got some
00:38:13pop still left in him.
00:38:15New haircut as well.
00:38:17Second down and 11
00:38:19from the eight.
00:38:21Hand off Smith
00:38:23with running room.
00:38:25Smith over the 15
00:38:27of the 16 yard line.
00:38:29David Macklin with the tackle
00:38:31after a gain of eight yards.
00:38:33Now Monday on CBS
00:38:35first night of comedy starting with
00:38:37King of Queens followed by Yes Dear
00:38:39then it's Monday's number one comedy
00:38:41Everybody Loves Raymond
00:38:43and then the season premiere of Becker
00:38:45followed by An All-New Family Law
00:38:47it's here on Monday on CBS.
00:38:49Third down, three yards to go
00:38:51from the 16 for the Patriots.
00:38:53They need to go to the 19
00:38:55yard line for a first down.
00:38:57Kevin Faulk in the backfield.
00:38:59David Patton in motion.
00:39:01Here's Brady
00:39:03flips it out to Faulk with running room
00:39:05gets it in, gets the
00:39:07first down of the Patriots
00:39:09keep the Jays moving.
00:39:11Jeff Burris with the tackle but it's a gain
00:39:13of 10 yards.
00:39:17Now linebacker Mike Peterson right here
00:39:1952, he's man on man with the running back
00:39:21right there. Kevin Faulk, he's got to get out there.
00:39:23He's distracted by the motion. You just see
00:39:25him take a second right there to get out
00:39:27tight end running right by him.
00:39:29One on one in space. Mike Peterson's been making
00:39:31a lot of tackles for the Colts this year
00:39:33but it's tough when you get a running back who's got
00:39:35some moves like Faulk. You see him
00:39:37give him the old spin move and
00:39:39linebacker just went flying right to the sideline.
00:39:41Kevin Faulk, very good third
00:39:43down. Running back
00:39:45inside handoff Mark Edwards
00:39:47and he gets a couple.
00:39:49Bratsky, only Chad Bratsky
00:39:53in on the tackle
00:39:55and that will take us to the end of the
00:39:57first quarter and a surprise
00:40:00The New England Patriots lead
00:40:02the most explosive offense in the
00:40:04NFL 7-0
00:40:06We'll return to Foxboro Stadium
00:40:08right after this message
00:40:18Fred
00:40:20Hey we gotta
00:40:22Hey
00:40:30Hey
00:40:38Who is this? Leonard Skinner?
00:40:40Yep
00:40:42How about that bro?
00:40:44Huh?
00:40:46You said who is this? If you would have said this is
00:40:48I mean but still come on you can't take that
00:40:50away from me. Don't try to guess.
00:40:52I mean how many boys on the
00:40:5449ers, how many brothers would know
00:40:56that this is Leonard Skinner?
00:40:59Come on
00:41:01Sweet home run
00:41:03On camera I don't do those
00:41:05Gosh this pink thing is killing me
00:41:07But it fits you
00:41:11You know the tight end from Sanford suits
00:41:13Bro we're on camera
00:41:15After the first play
00:41:17We're not sitting are we?
00:41:20Hey
00:41:30Hey
00:41:44The Lakers get help
00:41:49Go
00:41:57We're just gonna do this?
00:41:59I'm not gonna even watch the first play
00:42:09Great start for the 0-2 Patriots
00:42:11On top of Indianapolis
00:42:137-0 and look at the rushing yards
00:42:151-0-3 to 13
00:42:17Second down and 8-28
00:42:19Brady steps up
00:42:21Looking down the field
00:42:23Oh
00:42:25Incomplete
00:42:27Troy Brown didn't get both feet inbound
00:42:29Still nice pass by the young
00:42:31quarterback
00:42:33And you need two feet
00:42:35inbound
00:42:37Yes you do
00:42:39And that's 0
00:42:41Great throwing catch though
00:42:43Troy Brown back in the huddle
00:42:47And that'll make it
00:42:49Third down and 8 from the 28 yard line
00:42:51They need to go to the 36
00:42:53For a first down
00:43:05Oh great catch
00:43:07Should be a first down
00:43:09And that is Torrey Brown
00:43:11And that is Torrence Small
00:43:13The former Philadelphia Eagle
00:43:15With a 9 yard grab
00:43:17First down New England
00:43:19And we talked about
00:43:21Tom Brady's receiver's gonna have to make some plays for him
00:43:23And Small's gonna get up
00:43:25And be large on this pass
00:43:27Watch him get up
00:43:29Fingertip catch right at the first down marker
00:43:31He knows where he has to get
00:43:33Forward progress
00:43:35Big third down conversion there
00:43:37And that's what the Patriots have done thus far
00:43:39They've converted third downs
00:43:41Made some plays
00:43:47Antoine Smith
00:43:49Once again let's go to New York where Jim Nance is standing by
00:44:05Very emotional win for the Dolphins
00:44:07Last week against Oakland at home
00:44:09Jay Fiedler leading them back on the final drive
00:44:13Scrambled for a touchdown
00:44:15Second and 5 from the 42
00:44:17Inside handoff
00:44:19And the Patriots trying to get it the hard way
00:44:21Antoine Smith running
00:44:23Busy day
00:44:25Here's Jim Nance once again
00:44:37All right Jim
00:44:39And how much do the
00:44:41Bills miss number 7
00:44:43The good 5 feet 9 inch quarterback
00:44:45Your favorite quarterback
00:44:47And Jim Nance's favorite quarterback
00:44:49Third down 3 from the 44
00:44:51Brady again underneath
00:44:53First down New England
00:44:55Towards Small
00:44:57And Brady starting to get his confidence going
00:44:59Starting?
00:45:01He already has confidence
00:45:03He's got confidence
00:45:05Starting?
00:45:07He already had that confidence coming in
00:45:09I think he's just getting everybody else's confidence
00:45:11In him going
00:45:1311 yard gain
00:45:15And he told us we talked about the 3 and 4 wide receiver sets
00:45:17And he's been doing a great job of capitalizing
00:45:19Underneath
00:45:21The 4, 5 and 6 yard passes
00:45:23Letting his receivers catch it and get up the field
00:45:25I have a feeling that man's giving him some good advice
00:45:27Big shoes to fill
00:45:29For the young fella out of San Mateo
00:45:31California
00:45:33To the 45
00:45:35Falk running
00:45:37And gets to the 45
00:45:39And he went to a high school called Sarah High School
00:45:41And a couple of pretty good athletes have come out of his high school
00:45:43Out in the Bay Area where I live
00:45:45And how about this
00:45:47The first thing I said when I walked in
00:45:49I said hey has Barry called you to wish you good luck yet
00:45:51And he was all serious he said no he hadn't called me yet
00:45:53I think he's busy right now Tom
00:45:55Lynn Swan, John Robinson
00:45:57Pretty impressive list of
00:45:59Alumni
00:46:01Second down 10
00:46:03Brady was a backup quarterback
00:46:05To Brian Greasy at Michigan
00:46:07He's 5 for 9 today
00:46:0948 yards
00:46:11Ready to throw it once again
00:46:13Brady
00:46:15Mark Edwards
00:46:17Stretching out unable to hold on
00:46:21And you know this Colts team
00:46:23You mentioned at the top of the show
00:46:25How they have a chip on their shoulder
00:46:27Because their defense isn't getting any respect
00:46:29And that's improved from last year
00:46:31But you can't give up 103 yards
00:46:33Rushing in the first quarter
00:46:35And think that people are going to respect you
00:46:37They've been saying the same thing
00:46:39They can't stop the run
00:46:41And here's a Patriots team that has had trouble running the ball for a couple of years
00:46:43Gashing them in the first quarter
00:46:45For over 100 yards
00:46:47Rings up 3rd and 10 from the 45
00:46:49Patriots 4 of 6
00:46:51On 3rd down conversion
00:46:53Here comes the blitz
00:46:55Brady
00:46:57And he's taken down
00:46:59At the 45 yard line
00:47:01By Chuki Wakori
00:47:03Backup defensive lineman
00:47:05Who's got some good wheels
00:47:07And the Patriots will have to punt the football
00:47:15So Lee Johnson
00:47:17Stands at the 40
00:47:19As Brady gets
00:47:21To the sideline
00:47:23Terrence Wilkins he's already returned to punt
00:47:25For touchdown this season
00:47:27At the 10 yard line
00:47:31He's averaging
00:47:3317 yards per punt return
00:47:35High spiraling kick
00:47:37Wilkins allows it to go
00:47:39Over his head into the end zone
00:47:41For a touchback, a 45 yard punt
00:47:4325 yard net
00:47:4510.55 to go here in the second quarter
00:47:47Of play, so far so good
00:47:49For the young man out of Michigan
00:47:56Thanks
00:47:58What about me?
00:48:00Sucker
00:48:02Wah, wah, wah, wah
00:48:08Alright
00:48:10Hey how we doing with the scores
00:48:12What do we got, what do we got, what do we got
00:48:14Yay, yay, yay
00:48:22No Steve
00:48:24Wah, did you get me some Starbucks
00:48:26Yeah right
00:48:28How about you guys
00:48:30All you guys, me guys
00:48:32Everybody's doing great
00:48:38How about you guys, me guys
00:48:40You went to Starbucks today and you didn't get me anything
00:48:42You know
00:48:44You know, you need a coat
00:48:46You need a coat, who gets a coat for you
00:48:48Who's your boy
00:48:50Starbucks
00:48:52I didn't have any coffee man
00:48:54I take that personally
00:48:56I didn't even know you liked coffee, I thought you liked those little foo foo drinks
00:48:58Little foo foo guy
00:49:00Man I am a man of average height
00:49:04Are you going to sit
00:49:06Yeah man
00:49:08You may be small, but you're slow too
00:49:10I am too
00:49:12I'm good and slow
00:49:14Are we sitting down for this
00:49:16You guys are
00:49:18Just do what the guy asked you to do
00:49:20You know what
00:49:22I'll be yelling at Steve later on during the year
00:49:24Or he'll be yelling at me
00:49:26Yes, go ahead
00:49:32I mean, who cares
00:49:38I thought you said we're going to do it after the first floor
00:49:46Indianapolis takes over
00:49:48At their own 20 yard line
00:49:50Adrian James
00:49:52Been held in check so far
00:49:54Here he is on the right side
00:49:56Brian Cox there to
00:49:58Drive it down
00:50:00But Bobby Hamilton
00:50:02Disrupting the play early on
00:50:06Gus Johnson and Brent Jones
00:50:08Brent, how impressed are you
00:50:10With not only this Patriots defense
00:50:12But the way they've been running the football as well
00:50:14Well they came out very emotional
00:50:16You can just tell the difference right from the get go
00:50:18They're playing fired up
00:50:20Brian Cox, the number one guy
00:50:22Fired them up, both offensively and defensively
00:50:24I see him on the sidelines
00:50:26Talking to the offensive guys, getting them fired up
00:50:28The Colts have struggled here in Foxborough
00:50:30Peyton Manning
00:50:34Underneath Peyton with the catch
00:50:36Cox hits him
00:50:38As well as
00:50:40Buckley
00:50:42And you said that this
00:50:44New England team
00:50:46Has been very successful against Indianapolis
00:50:48At home, well last year they beat the Colts
00:50:5024 to 16
00:50:52Here in New England
00:50:54Then traveled to Indianapolis and lost
00:50:5630 to 23
00:50:58Peyton Manning came in and told us
00:51:00Right off the bat, I haven't won here
00:51:023rd and 8 from the 22
00:51:04They need to go to the 30
00:51:06Defense trying to get the fans involved
00:51:14Right there baby
00:51:20You're gonna see Jerome Peyton and Gus
00:51:22Catch that ball and try to get to the
00:51:24First down marker, dive and get that ball
00:51:26Up front
00:51:28But he's gonna be about a yard short
00:51:32And there's Brian Cox
00:51:34Saying goodbye to Peyton
00:51:36Cox hasn't been in control
00:51:38This game as well as the Patriots defense
00:51:40And he's pretty fired up about it
00:51:42You know Brent, I think that hit
00:51:44On Peyton
00:51:46On the first series set a tone
00:51:48For this New England defense
00:51:50I think you're right, if you're a receiver
00:51:52Right now you know Brian Cox is gonna be there
00:51:54Troy Brown from the 35
00:51:56Brown looking for an opening
00:51:58And he scrambles over the
00:52:0045 yard line and the
00:52:048 yard line, a 36 yard punt
00:52:0612 yard return but flags on the play
00:52:12And Gus
00:52:14And Gus one of the things that we haven't
00:52:16Addressed, the Patriots have that
00:52:187 to nothing lead and they were going
00:52:20Into the win that first quarter
00:52:22And it's gonna be tougher for this Colts team to
00:52:24Throw into the win
00:52:26Here in the second
00:52:28So now the Patriots have it at their back and they're looking
00:52:30Forward to making some plays down field
00:52:32Penalty going against
00:52:34New England
00:52:36Holding
00:52:3825
00:52:40Of the return team
00:52:42During the run back, 10 yard penalty
00:52:44First down
00:52:48So Myers called for the
00:52:50Holding penalty
00:52:52Time out on the field
00:52:54Brian Cox trying to get it to the mind
00:52:56Of
00:52:58Young Peyton Manning
00:53:06I
00:53:08Can't
00:53:10See
00:53:12No
00:53:14No
00:53:16No
00:53:18No
00:53:20I
00:53:22Can't
00:53:24See
00:53:26No
00:53:28No
00:53:30Pittsburgh on top of Buffalo
00:53:32Kansas City
00:53:34Kansas City
00:53:36On top of Washington, 7-3
00:53:38Yeah
00:53:40What are their names
00:53:42Again? Jan Marshall Cindy
00:53:44Ha ha ha
00:53:46Pittsburgh and Buffalo, do you see them?
00:53:48Do you see them? Nah, I don't know how to do that
00:53:50You wanna look at these?
00:53:52Do you see the girls?
00:53:54Let's see them
00:54:04No, bro
00:54:34Today's play
00:54:56Welcome back, first down in
00:54:5810
00:55:00The Patriots at their own
00:55:02line. Brady looks far side and complete and a flag on the play. David Patton the intended
00:55:09receiver, David Macklin covering. And Macklin was pushing him 12, 14 yards downfield. You
00:55:14can't, you've got the five-yard chuck zone and you're going to see Macklin making contact and
00:55:20you can't knock the receiver off his route that yard, that many yards downfield holding and
00:55:24grabbing. Macklin second year player out of Penn State. 27 defense. That's an automatic first down.
00:55:31Huge gain. A 26-yard penalty. And you see him grab on the shoulder, Patton both sides and he
00:55:38switches over and then he gets up and throws his hands up like, hey what, I didn't do anything.
00:55:44Macklin replaced Tyrone Poole in right corner. The handoff to Antoine Smith. Smith with a lid
00:55:51running home. Gets to the 37-yard line. Brad Scioli tackling him from behind.
00:55:58The Patriots really haven't had any success running at Scioli. He's made three or four
00:56:01tackles going to the right there and really their big yards have come off tackle left.
00:56:09Makes it second and eight from the 38.
00:56:13Smith high stepping through the hole. Gets to the 33-yard line.
00:56:28Gain of five yards on the play. For the best NFL info on the net including expert analysis
00:56:34and in-depth team reports go to cbs.sportsline.com or AOL keyword CBS Sportsline.
00:56:41Makes it third down and three from the 33-yard line for the Patriots. And as long as they don't
00:56:48keep getting into third and long, they've had reasonable third down attempts. You can pass or
00:56:53run. Here's Kevin Faulk looking for the first down. Gets it. And Bill Belichick told us on
00:57:00Friday that they were going to run the football and they are running the football. Well,
00:57:04got to believe coach Belichick. That was part of his game plan. Keep the clock rolling,
00:57:08ball control, keep that Colts offense off the field. Watch Faulk right here. He gets hit,
00:57:14smash mouth, turn around, face back and fall forward. That's the key. Fall forward on that
00:57:20third and short. Looks like somebody also got a piece of his face mask. 121 yards rushing for
00:57:26the Patriots. Remember last year in Indy JR Redmond rushed for 97 yards on 22 carries.
00:57:34Once again, Smith. Smith is really working hard this afternoon. And the Pat just content with
00:57:45running the ball in first down, chewing up clock. You haven't seen a whole lot of passes first down.
00:57:50Smith got 11 carries, 82 yards. So the Colts ought to have a chip on their shoulder.
00:57:57Now we updated 12 carries for 85 yards. Man, we are quick around here. Yes, we are.
00:58:03Second at seven from the 27. Smith around the left side. Takes a blow, but somehow manages to
00:58:11fall forward. Rob Morris, the middle linebacker. Rob Morris is Josh Williams. First round pick
00:58:17out of BYU last season. Only played seven games. Injured himself against this Patriots team last
00:58:24year. Nice hit. Big Josh Williams in on the tackle as well. It took a big shot.
00:58:33Colts and the Patriots. First meeting of the season between these two. Third down and nine
00:58:39from the 29. They need to go to the 20 for first down. Brady out of the shotgun. Brady down the
00:58:46middle. Incomplete. Torrence Small, the intended receiver. But it's incomplete and that'll bring on
00:58:55Adam Vinatieri. And Brady had gone to Torrence Small the last two third downs and had his eyes
00:59:00on him the whole way. You see him looking right at Torrence Small. Just put that ball a little bit
00:59:04behind. If he would have let him a little bit, he would have been able to snag that and get down and
00:59:09have the first down. So Adam Vinatieri in to attempt a 47 yarder. He's two for two on the
00:59:16season with a log of 39 yards. Lee Johnson, the runner, is the holder. Gets it down. It's up.
00:59:23And pure. Right down Main Street. Nicely done. Adam Vinatieri and we have an upset brewing
00:59:35here at Foxborough.
00:59:42Oh, you pick. Who did you pick? Who did you pick? Patriots. Who did you pick? Geez.
01:00:00Sucker bat. Oh, baby. Oh, baby. Oh, that's what he's going to be great.
01:00:09Got the objective. Who did you pick? I picked. Hey, how the Rams doing?
01:00:16Are the Eagles a four o'clock game? That's tonight against the Cowboys.
01:00:26How the Rams doing? They just scored again.
01:00:39Yeah.
01:00:46You talk about one of these games. Talk about both of them. I'm talking about this.
01:00:57Why don't you just wait?
01:00:58I'm going to do it after the after the kick.
01:01:28Don't forget, coming up, doubleheader for you. Most of you will see Baltimore and Denver,
01:01:37others Cincinnati and San Diego. Terrence Wilkins inside his own five yard line,
01:01:44running it up the field and gets to the 23 before being stopped.
01:01:50An 18 yard return. So coming up, down 10 to nothing,
01:01:55Manning will try to get something going.
01:02:07What what are what are Manning's numbers? Six of 10, 52 yards. Wow.
01:02:16Can you guys do a split screen of last week? Yeah. Split screen it.
01:02:20Geez, I should be producing this thing.
01:02:24They lead the NFL in yards, second in the NFL in rushing.
01:02:30No catches. They've sat on Marvin Harrison. Yes, they have.
01:02:40Jiminy crickets.
01:02:44Yeah, right. Done a great job. Right. Got at least three or four minutes.
01:02:50In section.
01:02:53Almost like the wind has become in our face warm now. Yeah, and it's blowing towards us.
01:03:03Hey, maybe you need to talk about that. Can we see the wind again?
01:03:06Yeah, the flags aren't blowing this way. But no, but they're going that way. And look where
01:03:09the flags are blowing. They're going into the wind. That's what I'm saying. We already talked
01:03:14about it, but we didn't show it.
01:03:44Welcome back. The New England defense playing unbelievably here in the first half of play.
01:03:56Indianapolis unable to get anything going. Marvin Harrison, no catches in four possessions.
01:04:03Last week he had three touchdowns in the first half of play. Edger and James running over the
01:04:09left side and gets over the 25 up to the 28. Coming up on the next Hill halftime report.
01:04:17Join Jim, Mike, Randy and Jerry for all the scores and highlights in the latest NFL news.
01:04:21Plus a CBS News update. America fights back. You talked about Marvin Harrison having no catches.
01:04:28You've got to give a great amount of credit to Ty Long. Been with him most of the day out there.
01:04:33They throw it. Harrison getting up the field, finds a first down. And in the last four games
01:04:39against the Patriots, Harrison has 31 catches for 538 yards and six touchdowns. And they just
01:04:47had to get him in the mix. They had to get the ball in his hands. They threw a flanker screen
01:04:51just right at the line of scrimmage so he could have a touch. Four straight 100 yard games.
01:04:57And this Patriots run defense has been outstanding today. It's something that
01:05:11has really been a big element here in the first half. A lot of penetration.
01:05:18And you know, and Gus, you mentioned early about Brian Cox and the intimidation factor.
01:05:42Anybody catching a ball coming across the middle is going to take a shot.
01:05:46This time I think Dilger is going to get a linebacker sandwich. Cox and Vrabel. Bang.
01:05:54Third down 8 from the 37. Romeo Quenelle. Colts 1 of 5 on third down. They need to go to the 45.
01:06:05Manning looking. Manning steps up. And Manning will not get the first down. Tackled out of bounds
01:06:14at the 35. Roman Pfeiffer. And this New England team is playing some intense defense right now.
01:06:24And really what they're doing, Gus, these are coverage sacks. You watch that defensive
01:06:28secondary. You see Peyton Standing Bear back there that long. There's nobody getting open.
01:06:35And there's a flag on the far side of the field. At about the 46. And it goes against
01:06:44New England. Illegal contact. 24 defense. That's a 5-yard penalty. Automatic first down.
01:06:51Tied long. Wow. And that is a huge penalty with the change of possession potentially coming.
01:07:02So we're looking for the penalty in our truck as we speak. It happened on the
01:07:06opposite side of the play. And you know, defensive backs only have 5 yards to make that contact.
01:07:11And you can't make contact down the field. And you're going to see Ty Law at the top of the
01:07:19top of the screen with a love tap inside. But you can't make contact.
01:07:23Great acting job there. Marvin Harrison. Hey, if they're going to hit you, might as well go down.
01:07:28Draw the flag.
01:07:30Holmes gets a break. First and 10 from their own 42. 3.52 to play here in the first half.
01:07:44Ducks under. The outstretched arms of Bobby Hamilton. A 4-yard pickup. Ted Johnson also in on the play.
01:07:54Tell you what, though. Patriots defense really swarmed into the football. And Bobby Hamilton,
01:07:58great job versus the Rodgers. Led all defensive linemen last year and tackled for the Patriots.
01:08:04Second and 6 from the 46. Manning looking back side. Manning all day to throw. That's Harrison!
01:08:11Over the shoulders. Out of bounds. That's the 28-yard line. A 26-yard gain. And there's just no way
01:08:21you can give Peyton Manning six or seven seconds with that receiving crew that he's got out there.
01:08:26Count. You see Marvin Harrison just running inside route. Nobody there. Hey, I'm just going to go
01:08:30downfield. A covered initially. Peyton Manning with nobody around him. That's the one thing the
01:08:35Patriots haven't done is put pressure on Manning. Edrin James will take a loss. Nice looking tackle
01:08:44by Otis Smith. The flag, though, in the secondary for New England.
01:08:53Matt Stephens and Jerome Peyton having some words as well.
01:08:58And it will go against Indy.
01:09:05It looked like a clip. Coming downfield. Maybe on Jeff Saturday I saw him complaining down there.
01:09:10Personal ball. 86 offense. Crack back.
01:09:1415-yard penalty. Repeat the double. And I think that's why Matt Stephens had some words for Jerome
01:09:19Peyton. When you come inside, you can't go below the waist. You have to be aligned.
01:09:25You're going to block that low. And watch Peyton. Peyton's going to get a little bit of a
01:09:31little bit of a break. He's going to get a little bit of a break. He's going to get a little bit of
01:09:36a break. He's going to get a little bit of a break. He's going to get a little bit of a break.
01:09:40You're going to block that low. And watch Peyton. Peyton, the near guy, go right at the legs of
01:09:46Stephens. You can't go below the waist inside the box like that. First and a long 25 from the 44.
01:09:56Manning setting up a screen. Edger and James. Tackle from behind. Guess who? Brian Cox.
01:10:02Love him or hate him, this guy gives his all on the field every time he steps out there.
01:10:07And we talked to him a couple weeks ago and he was so cool and calm and the meeting said he'd
01:10:11matured and you see him out on the field screaming, ranting, raving all over the field, making plays,
01:10:17reading screens. He is really the vocal leader of this Patriots defense. His intensity is contagious.
01:10:26Second and 22 from the 42. They need to go all the way to about the 18 and a half for a first down.
01:10:34Manning to the sideline intercepted. Oh to Smith. Smith with running low.
01:10:41Smith gets down the sideline. Smith needs one more block. Smith gets it in. Touchdown New England.
01:10:5278 yards and we've got Dedlam here at Foxborough.
01:11:22Oh to Smith. The 12-year veteran. Not only a great catch on the interception, but a tremendous return.
01:11:42And it came right at the two-minute warning. So Adam Vinatieri
01:11:46into a tip the extra point. Gets it up and good. Surprise, surprise. A minute and 42 to go here
01:11:55in the first half of play. The Patriots are sucking it to the goal. 17-0.
01:12:04This is a good ball. He was looking outside of the field. Fifth interception of the year.
01:12:26We need it all 22. He had one last week for a touchdown. Don't forget to say it.
01:12:31Who plays, who plays, who's number 22 for the... Come on let me see the replay.
01:12:37What are you guys doing down there? Talk to him in your talkback bro.
01:12:45They are, you know what they're doing?
01:13:01You sure?
01:13:31Yep, I got it.
01:13:49142 to go in the second quarter of play. New England with a 17-0 lead.
01:13:56And for the Patriots, that Otis Smith interception was the first interception
01:14:01since December 4th of last season when they played Kansas City. It's a span of six games.
01:14:09Vinatieri sends it away. Wilkins from the floor.
01:14:16Wilkins up the sideline on a foul. And what a play. Let's take another look.
01:14:22Gus, these Patriots are flying around. You see Peyton Manning looking for Peyton. Watch to
01:14:26Bucky Jones. Bang! There's the first shot. Peyton out of bounds. Now watch Otis Smith cut all the
01:14:30way back. Watch Ty Law with his block on Edger and James right here down the field. Then here
01:14:35comes Peyton Manning getting taken out of the play by big number 96 Brennan Mitchell. Smith
01:14:40cutting it back across the field. And where was that Colts offense? Didn't look like guys were
01:14:46hustling downfield. There's never a time where a guy should cut back, weave across the field,
01:14:51and go 70 yards on you. You've got to rally to the ball. So Peyton Manning back under center,
01:14:599 of 15, 87 yards, and one interception. Manning setting, fires to Wilkins, and Wilkins goes down
01:15:08to 25. I'll tell you what Brent, to me it looks like this Patriots team has one simple objective
01:15:15in mind on defense. They are really just going out there and, for lack of a better word,
01:15:19chomping them today and just thumping them. As physical as I've seen them here in the last two
01:15:23or three years. Second and seven, Manning running. Manning goes down, and Peyton Manning.
01:15:33Now that's the last thing. And Willie McGinnis bearing down on him. Yeah, Peyton Manning looked
01:15:38like a broken play there. You don't want him running over the middle of the field.
01:15:42Indianapolis with three timeouts remaining. Manning, nobody home. Manning out of the pocket.
01:15:50Manning scrambling. Fires, edger and James, and he's down at the 30, flats on the field.
01:15:57Maybe a holding penalty against Indy. And it is. And this secondary for the Patriots is playing
01:16:06the best game. I have not seen a cold hold. 78 offense. Penalty has declined.
01:16:134,000. Tarik Glenn. And we just haven't seen Peyton Manning go back and stand back there for
01:16:19five or six seconds, unable to find any open receivers. That hasn't happened for a couple
01:16:23years. Tell you what, Manning looks like he looked during his rookie season when they played a
01:16:29Sunday night game against New England right here at Foxborough, and the Patriots just ate him up.
01:16:36Hunt is away. Spirally kick. Brown from the 27. And Brown goes down.
01:16:47Clifton Crosby with the special team's tackle. 43-yard punt. And Gus, let's look at this coverage.
01:16:54Watch the receivers here for the Colts. Split out wide and watch the zone. Good linebackers
01:16:58getting drops underneath. Just taking away all those throwing lanes. Right here and here,
01:17:03there's nobody to throw to. We've got coverage out here, coverage outside.
01:17:08And now you're seeing what Peyton Manning's seen is no throwing lanes. Five-yard penalty. Repeat
01:17:124,000. An illegal man downfield, so they will kick it again. And yesterday, Manning, he knew
01:17:19that Coach Velichek was going to use cover too. And he knew that there would be openings in the
01:17:26middle, but I don't think he thought about how hard the linebackers would be hitting for this
01:17:32New England team. Well, he knew exactly coming into this game what he was up against, and he
01:17:35said it was going to take a lot of patience. But this Colts team is much more mature this year than
01:17:40the last couple years. They understand what they have to do. This one off the side of the foot.
01:17:51Brown picks it up at the 35. And Brown advances the football up to the 45, making the 46.
01:17:5840-yard punt, 11-yard return. Don't forget, coming up on the Nextel Halftime Report,
01:18:03Jim Nantz and company will have scores and highlights, and the latest NFL news, plus
01:18:08a CBS News update, America fights back. I wonder who picked New England in this game. I'm sure
01:18:15somebody in our studio picked New England. You think so? I hope so. I know so. Somebody did.
01:18:22Probably Coach Ditka. I don't think any of them had the guts to pick New England. Oh,
01:18:25come on. Don't say that. Hey, guys, 21 seconds left. The Patriots have three timeouts with the
01:18:30win. That's a big advantage going with the win. They need to get the ball down to probably about
01:18:35the 33-yard line to give Vinatieri a shot for a field goal. First and 10 from the 47.
01:18:43Brady underneath Brown. And Brown is sandwiched and goes down at the 48-yard line with
01:18:5115 seconds to go. A five-yard pickup. New England calls timeout.
01:19:21Seized sudden. Congratulations.
01:19:36Tonight on 60 Minutes, how prepared are we for a biological or chemical attack
01:19:41that the man who briefs the president briefed you? Tonight on 60 Minutes. 15 seconds to go
01:19:48in the first half of play. Second and six for the Patriots from the 49. Draw play. Kevin Falk
01:19:54trying to get out of bounds. Falk does at the 35 with nine seconds to go. A 13-yard gain.
01:20:03Good call by Charlie Weiss, the offensive coordinator for New England. A little draw
01:20:07play there. And you see Kevin Falk going right to the left right now. All the big running games
01:20:12today for the Patriots have been to their left. And not only did Falk have a big play, but he was
01:20:17smart enough to get out of bounds. They probably need another four or five yards, Gus, to be in
01:20:21legitimate Venetary range. Although that wind is gusting up to 26 miles an hour right now.
01:20:26Really going to give that ball some extra carry. New England still has two timeouts remaining.
01:20:31Here's Falk once again. Falk to the sideline. Out of bounds with four seconds to go.
01:20:39So this should probably be about a 48-yard field goal for Venetary, who's perfect on the season.
01:20:46Three of three. And with this wind, Gus, I don't think distance is going to be a factor. I saw Adam
01:20:52down there in pregame and he was kicking them 52-53 easy with the wind behind his back.
01:20:59Successful on one attempt today from 47 yards.
01:21:04And that wind's blowing a little bit into our face. Maybe a little bit swirling. See if he
01:21:08can keep this ball straight or if it pushes a little right. This one from 48. Got it up.
01:21:14He's put it on the board. Adam Venetary. And that's the end of the first half of play. What
01:21:22a first half for New England. With the score, 20 to nothing. Coming up, it's the next Don't
01:21:29Report after this message and a word from your local station.
01:21:59Yeah. Yes.
01:22:07You know what? Yeah, I would say that.
01:22:16You know what? Now show the hit by Cox and then show Marvin Harrison dropping the ball with Brian
01:22:22Cox coming at him and then show the inner. You know what the other thing is? Peyton Manning
01:22:27standing back there with nobody getting open. I mean, OK, that's fine. Hey, can we get New York?
01:22:38Can we get New York?
01:22:57So
01:23:18on this week's
01:23:27Venus now. Hey, can we get New York so I can hear the highlights?
