Torins's Passage Videogame © Sierra/ Activision Blizzard

Torins Passage is one of my all time favourite games which I first played when I was probably about five or six years old. It's a point and click adventure game featuring a number of worlds within one another as part of a nested planet where humans can travel between levels of the planet through the use of a Phenocryst chamber.

Torin's Passage is one of Sierra's geatest point and click adventure games released originally on PC CD ROM back in 1995 created by Al Lowe. It features the story of young Torin who has his parents abducted by an evil Sorceress called Lycentia.

In a bit to save them from their the clutches of Lycentia Torin sets out on a quest with his trusted pet companion, Boogle to visit different worlds in order to reach a place known as the Lands Below, an upside down place where those not welcome in the worlds above are sent to.

The game was originally created with children in mind as the main target audience however the game also offers some jokes and humour adults will appreciate too. The music composed for the game is incredible for it's time and includes music from famous composer Michel Legrand who has won an academy award three times!

00:00You riddance plant crusher!
00:07How can I just float in mid-air like this?
00:09Oh, I get it.
00:12In the very center of the planet, gravity pulls equally from all directions.
00:17But how can I move? There's nothing to grab onto.
00:21Hello and welcome back to Torren's Passage. We're in the last
00:25part of the game in the Lands Below.
00:37You might not realise this, but I'm actually from Scotland, so using the bagpipes
00:41is natural to me. Seems like the most logical thing to do in a situation like this.
00:45So let's try it.
00:49It's a very strange world.
00:53Okay, let's try that small button, see what that does.
00:58Aha, right, okay, so it makes you smaller.
01:08It looks like that's a door.
01:16Ha, bingo, we've done it. We've got to the door. Let's ring the front doorbell and find out who's inside.
01:22That ain't good.
01:26I've got a very bad feeling about this.
01:35What a shame,
01:39to come all this way and not be able to get inside.
01:43Well that went well.
01:49Right,
01:53this time we need to hide quick.
02:01Let's hope he doesn't find us, or check.
02:04He's upside down.
02:11Okay, so we didn't die, but we're not inside yet, so what do we do?
02:15You're not welcome here, you decrepit old creep.
02:23You're not welcome here, you decrepit old creep.
02:27You're not welcome here, you decrepit old creep.
02:31Okay, so it looks like we've got to do something with this music box, with the
02:36crystal recordings. Possibly
02:39rearrange them, so that
02:42Lysentra's voice says something specific.
02:46Perhaps to draw Dreep's attention away from us.
02:50Creep.
02:53You're a creep.
02:57Not well creep.
03:00Creep, come here.
03:03You creep, come here.
03:07Dreep, come here, you decrepit old creep.
03:12Dreep, come here.
03:15Dreep, come here.
03:19Dreep, come here.
03:23Dreep, come here.
03:26Dreep, come here.
03:30Dreep, come here.
03:33Dreep, come here.
03:37Dreep, come here.
03:41Dreep, come here.
03:44Dreep, come here.
03:48Dreep, come here.
03:54Dreep, come here.
03:56Let's see just how smart that monster purse is.
03:59Dreep, come here.
04:01Dreep, come here.
04:05Dreep, come here.
04:09Dreep, come here.
04:12Dreep, come here.
04:16Dreep, come here.
04:19Dreep, come here.
04:23Dreep, come here.
04:27Dreep, come here.
04:30Dreep, come here.
04:32What the?
04:35Google?
04:37Mom?
04:40Dad?
04:42I swear I'll stop her.
04:45Before we go any further, I just want to point out a couple of things I've just noticed.
04:50If you look carefully, you can see there's Google and there's his mum and dad.
04:55But on the other side, it looks like Darth Vader's been captured.
04:59And Yoda is definitely in there.
05:02I'm not sure who that is in the background, it looks a bit like Snow White.
05:06I'm not sure about the other two characters at the front.
05:09Maybe they're ex-Microsoft employees or members of Sierra Games.
05:14I'm not sure.
05:15Anyone who knows, please let me know in the comments.
05:18For anyone who's stuck with me to this point in the game, thank you so much for watching this.
05:23We're near the very end of the game.
05:25So I just want you to enjoy the last five minutes of the game and the finale.
05:30And yeah, let's see what happens.
05:37Congratulations, you did it!
05:40That's nice to see someone else has an Al Lowe sense of humor.
05:44That's why you get to hear this, my very own personal easter egg,
05:48instead of the boring, plain old death message you see before you there on the screen.
05:52Anybody who comes all the way through this game, asking me to play this game,
05:56I'm not going to answer.
05:58I'm not going to answer.
06:00I'm not going to answer.
06:02I'm not going to answer.
06:04Anybody who comes all the way through this game,
06:06asking everybody you meet about this evil sorceress named Licentia,
06:09and then finally finds her, and then tricks Dreep into following a recording of her voice,
06:13and then doesn't use the Book of Magic on her,
06:16but instead plays the bagpipes,
06:19deserves much more than just another boring old death message.
06:23So here's my personal thank you for playing the game.
06:26And now, enjoy the ending.
06:28But whatever you do, don't tell anybody how you got this message.
06:32Instead, just taunt them with,
06:34Why, I got a personal message from Al Lowe at the end.
06:37Didn't you?
06:56What?
06:57You dare enter my home and attempt your little magic spells on me?
07:15So dramatic.
07:24Foolish boy.
07:26I have more power in my little finger than you'll ever possess.
07:39The collar.
07:42Torrin.
07:44Of course.
07:46Who else could remove the collar?
07:49Who are you?
07:55How do you know my name?
07:59I was your nanny.
08:01Nanny?
08:03I saved your life the night your parents were murdered.
08:07Murdered? No! How could you?
08:10I thought you had them in a magic spell.
08:13No, Torrin.
08:15The Farmans are safe.
08:17But they're not your real parents.
08:20Your real parents were the king and queen of the lands above.
08:24What?
08:26But then I'm...
08:28That's right.
08:30You're the next king.
08:33No, that's wrong.
08:35I'm the next king.
08:42You should have died in your cradle that night, little nephew.
08:46I've been searching for you all these years. You won't escape me now.
08:51I killed your parents.
08:55And now I'll kill you.
09:16One step closer, boy, and I'll finish her.
09:22No, don't!
09:24Oh yeah, brilliant idea. Just stand near some lava.
09:40Licentia!
09:42Licentia, are you okay?
09:47That was close.
09:49I thought he had you there for a second.
09:52Hey, Licentia!
10:04But the lava...
10:06Oh, Torrin.
10:09That's not lava.
10:11That's Dreep's supper dish.
10:17What about my parents and Boogle?
10:20Of course.
10:23Torrin, I think it's time for all of us to go back home.
10:28To the lands above.
10:38Torrin, where's my tools? From town, remember?
10:42Son, who's this lady?
10:45And is she going to stay for dinner?
10:47Mom! Dad! It's great to be home again.
11:15In 1995, by Sierra Games.
11:20It's a game that, despite being old, I think still stands up today.
11:26It was obviously targeted at a young audience, targeted at kids.
11:33I still think this is equally as entertaining today as it was back then.
11:38And I enjoy it as an adult, just for nostalgia.
11:42It's actually a very good game.
11:44I'm surprised that there wasn't more games like this.
11:48If you do like these kind of games, I'd highly recommend other game franchises such as Broken Sword by Revolution Software.
12:05Also, Sierra Games did a number of point-and-click adventure games such as The Adventures of Lorabao.
12:13They also did Monkey Island.
12:24There are other similar games like Grim Fandango, that's another one I'd recommend.
12:31A big one I haven't mentioned yet is King's Quest.
12:34That's a massive point-and-click adventure game.
12:37So it's a genre that I think there could be some new games coming out soon.
12:44I think it's kind of making a resurgence.
12:46So, yeah, check it out.
12:48But yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed Taurus Passage.
12:50It's got loads of humour and it's a great game.
12:55The great thing is you can buy it on GOG.com, possibly Steam, if not now, maybe soon.
13:03And it's compatible with Windows 10 now, so that's fantastic.
13:07And you can set up the game so that it fills the screen, etc., which is great.
13:13It's a wee bit buggy with the sound sometimes, but overall it works really well.
13:20There doesn't tend to be many bugs in the game, which is great.
13:23And yeah, it's just a great adventure game.
13:25A very good feel-good game, I think.
13:28And it's definitely one of my favourite games in my collection.
13:31So if you enjoyed watching the Let's Play, please go to my channel.
13:35You'll see lots of videos going up over time.
13:38I'm not sure when I'm going to post this one, but I've got about 20 to 30 videos finished that I've not published yet.
13:47So there's a lot of content coming online soon.
13:51And hopefully I'm going to create more and more content and improve things as they go along.
13:57So thank you so much for watching and I hope to see you again soon.
14:02Okay, bye for now.
14:20Thanks for watching!
