00:00Starting with Liverpool, Anthony Gordon is the latest emerging transfer rumour, a massive story coming out of that, being as he was an Everton player not too long ago as well, it's quite interesting.
00:16Firstly, what can you tell us about it and how much progression is in this deal and how interested are Liverpool as a club to get this player?
00:26It's a crazy one really, isn't it? When it came out on Saturday and the news emerged, it looked like Newcastle had gone to Liverpool and said, do you want to sign Anthony Gordon?
00:36Because of their PSR troubles and you're assuming that they were struggling to make deals at that point, obviously, the winger who went to Brighton, they managed to sell him and Elliot Anderson as well.
00:49They got that over the line, but it would have been interesting if Liverpool had said, yeah, let's do the deal. They wouldn't because Newcastle wanted Gerard Kwanzaa in return and Liverpool raised Gerard Kwanzaa highly.
01:02He's just had a breakthrough campaign, he was in England's provisional squad for the Euros and they certainly see him as a regular starter in the future.
01:11That complements him in its own right. It's an interesting one because I think maybe if Anthony Gordon plays on the right wing, they might have looked at it, Liverpool, a bit more serious.
01:25Obviously, they've only got Mo Salah who can play in the position, but on the left, there are quite a few options at Liverpool.
01:31There's Diaz who's the regular, Dogo Jos can play there. Cody Gaffel has been impressive there for Holland, even though he's operated mainly as a striker at Liverpool.
01:41And Darwin Nunes is also capable of playing there. So, Liverpool have got the option on the left, but on the right, not as much so.
01:49It would have been interesting, but will Liverpool look to revive this in the future is the one.
01:56Anthony Gordon, he came through the academy at Everton, but he was at Liverpool as a youngster before he was released and he grew up a Liverpool fan.
02:05So, maybe he would like to move back to Merseyside as well in the future, but I don't think he'd be desperate to be leaving Newcastle because he just had a fantastic season.
02:16Obviously, learning a lot under Eddie Howe. He's a regular. Let's be frank, if he has another good season, his price tag's only going to increase.
02:25And it might depend on what Liverpool do in the transfer market as well. Say, in a year's time, if it was Diaz who was to move on,
02:31then Liverpool might be looking at options for the left wing. But yeah, I think a lot of people will be keeping abreast of the situation.
02:41With Anthony Gordon, people will be keeping an even closer eye on how he performs this season.
02:46Because you would think if Liverpool have shown interest, you know, Anthony Gordon's that sort of player who fits the profile.
02:52Liverpool usually look at someone who's young enough, not hit his peak yet and can still be developed, then there might be something in the future still.
03:02And looking at pre-season under Arne Schlott, how much sort of goes into his pre-seasons?
03:07Is there any sort of ideas how he arranges his sides to set up for the new campaign?
03:12Obviously, the first pre-season under him, plenty of players still away on international duty as well.
03:18So it's about getting that time, you know, enough time with his new players and, you know, getting really familiar with everything at the new club.
03:27Yeah, it's not ideal, is it, to have two tournaments going on?
03:30And as you say, a lot of players are away. I mean, when Liverpool reassemble, there'll be a day for senior players who are there for the first day.
03:38Mo Salah will be one of them. Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, players like that.
03:43But yeah, there's going to be a lot of players who aren't there, which is a little bit disappointing for them.
03:49And I think that's why there's not going to be a massive change at Liverpool anytime soon.
03:54I don't think there will be anyway. I think maybe that's a reason why Arnis Lott was appointed, because he plays a similar formation to JĂĽrgen Klopp.
04:03Maybe he just sways a bit more to 4-3-3-1 and 4-3-3, but it's similar, isn't it?
04:09And, you know, he won't have any drastic changes, no drastic changes to the squad either.
04:14I think it'll just be about tinkering things and putting his own stamp on things.
04:20And some changes aren't bad. I mean, you know, all of JĂĽrgen Klopp's attributes and what he's been lauded for, sometimes it's just natural.
04:30Things can go a little bit stale, maybe, like, you know, the preseason, if you're sort of doing the same thing or whatever.
04:36Sometimes a new voice is nice for the player. I'm not saying by no means that one was needed.
04:41But, you know, sometimes it's nice for a new player just to add a different thing, a different voice and work with different cultures.
04:49But, yeah, a lot of Liverpool players will be coming back gradually, obviously with the Copa America going on and the Euros going on.
04:58It'll be interesting when, say, Andy Robertson gets back after Scotland's exit in the competition.
05:02Hungry as well with Dominic Sobozolai. But, yeah, I think the preseason Tour of America is maybe when a lot of the Liverpool players will start coming back.
05:14Obviously, the Copa America is going on in the United States, so it won't be too bad for some of the players over there.
05:22And maybe they'll go on holiday to Miami or L.A. or something like that, and then they'll link up with Liverpool from there.
05:29But, yeah, it's definitely exciting for Andy Slott, and it's a good chance for all the youngsters, I suppose, who are in the round, to try and impress and say,
05:38look, I can be part of your plans if you want to sign a player in the next position, then I'm here and I'm ready to step up.
05:45Yeah, and what sort of players do you see thriving under Andy Slott?
05:49Is there any that spring to mind that could possibly have an incredible breakthrough season under the new boss?
05:55Yeah, it'd be interesting to see how, I think, Harvey Elliott developed.
06:00Obviously, it's not a breakthrough, he's been around in the season for the first team for a long time, but he's not quite nailed down the starting spots towards the end of last season.
06:09He did, and JĂĽrgen Klopp said his biggest regret maybe is not playing Harvey Elliott a bit more.
06:14So, if he really stamps his authority and he's got a chance, as he did on the first day of preseason, he'll be there and he could potentially thrust his way into the starting XI.
06:25And then you're looking at maybe, I'm interested to see how a youngster called Lou Chambers gets on, because Conor Bradley was fantastic last season.
06:34He'll obviously still be a deputy to Trent Alexander-Arnold, but is there a chance for Lou Chambers, who has a really good loan spell at Wigan, to come and maybe be a deputy to Andy Robertson, potentially?
06:46Because Costa Simacas, yeah, he's the number two at the minute, but has he... I'm not saying kicked on, because he hasn't had regular chances, but we weren't even making the matchday scores towards the end of last season because of the injury list.
07:00And do you maybe look at that and think, maybe it's time to give a younger player a go?
07:05Yeah, and then you've got, obviously, the likes of Ben Doak, who've been injured for a long time as well.
07:10And he'll be maybe hoping he can get minutes with Mo Salah, not having any other real competitors for that right wing back.
07:18And Seton Bissettage as well will be there from day one of preseason. He was fantastic in the 22-23 campaign, but just had injuries last term in Liverpool and didn't rush him back because of the nature of his injuries, I think, and his age.
07:32Again, there's not a lot of defensive midfielders at the club, only with Taro Endo as the out-and-out option, so it's a chance for Seton Bissettage as well.
07:41Will, on to Everton. Obviously, with a massive window ahead and they're coming off the back of a season involving points deductions, etc.
07:51What's the latest on the PSR and the profit and sustainability rules, of course, that you can tell us that Everton fans might need to understand going into this new campaign?
08:04Well, as we speak, it's July 1st, so the new financial year begins, and you would like to think that Everton are sitting fairly, I don't want to say comfortably, but quite confident because they haven't sold any of the main assets that maybe we expect us want to go before June 30th.
08:24Obviously, Kevin Fellowell came out and said towards the end of last season, the director of football, that sales will need to happen, but if they need to happen before June 30th, maybe they might have lowered their asking price on Jared Bramford to Man Utd or Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle.
08:42Amazon O9 is obviously still at the club, at the Euros, but Everton have been steadfast with their approach for Bramford, saying you offer us silly money or he's going nowhere. Obviously, Man Utd haven't been able to get that one over the line deal for Calvert-Lewin and Newcastle broke down.
08:58Yeah, O9 is obviously an interesting one, but he's competing at the Euros, so that's probably parked. Maybe Everton knew that would be parked before all this happened, but yeah, the sales of Lewis Dobbin is for what, close to ÂŁ10 million to Aston Villa. That's pure profits on the books at Everton, so that's good.
09:16Obviously, Ben Godfrey being sold to Atalanta, which looks like a good deal for all parties, to be quite frank, because I couldn't really see him getting a look in under Sean Dyche. He wasn't favoured as a centre-back and he's not really an out-and-out right-back. Best of luck to him at Atalanta. So yeah, I think Everton may be looking at him, looking okay, certainly with the players being linked to him as well. It looks like there might be a little bit of money to spend.
09:45Yeah, obviously you mentioned the players have been linked in, they've made a couple of deals already. I mean, yeah, as you say, is this sort of a change in targets for Everton as they approach this season? You know, we've spoke before that, you know, minus the points deductions last season, the 12th place finish, and that's something that I'm sure after the last few seasons of turmoil that most, if not all, of Everton fans would take.
10:09Yeah, absolutely. I think, you know, it'd be interesting to see what the briefing is for Dyche now, whether it's avoid relegation again or, you know, maintain where we are or try and kick on into the top 10. It'd be interesting to see what the expectations are.
10:25But look, it looks like Everton are targeting and attacking players in this window. Obviously he brought back Jack Harrison, which is a decent long spell, and I think he even maybe thinks he can do better than he did last season. Bringing in the lad from Marseille, he'll win in a day and die, who has a good season at Sheffield United.
10:47Before he went to Marseille, disappointed a little bit in France, but Everton were interested before he went to Marseille. So it looks like that's one of, you know, they've admired for a while and Sean Dyche may be looking to get the best out of him. And wide players again, obviously Jadon Fillingham from Hull City has been linked and he couldn't get.
11:06And Jankuva Minter over the line with Newcastle Ealing still going to Brighton. So yeah, attacking players, obviously they need wide players and maybe another striker to support Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Armando Broads from Chelsea is a name that's been mentioned and I keep saying I think they do want, they need another left back to cover in competition for Vitaly Mikhalenko, who has ankle issues at the Oros.
11:35That was, you know, came originally in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool when he did his ligament. So I think maybe getting an option in there. But yeah, I think there's confidence around Everton fans that the deals that are being done look positive.
11:50You know, this isn't scrambling around trying to get whatever they can really. It looks like Everton are going for players they think can make a difference.
