00:00They took the worst of mankind and made of it something bright and true.
00:04Here's a look at McFarlane Toys' Warhammer 40,000, the Blood Angels' Reverse Sergeants.
00:09The Blood Angels, noble space marines, are known for their ferocious red thirst and black
00:29rage psychosis.
00:31They excel in rapid strikes, but the Reavers take it to the next level, launching brutal
00:34assaults with sudden fury and shocking violence.
00:37They serve as terror troops, sowing fear and confusion among their foes.
00:42The moment you instill fear is the moment you win the war.
00:45Just before we get a closer look at the McFarlane Toys' Warhammer 40,000, Blood Angels' Reverse
00:49Sergeants, I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarlane that provided the sample we could
00:53have a look at.
00:54The figure, though, of the Reaver is going to stand at 7.5 inches in height, or Reaver
00:58Sergeants going to stand about 18.5 centimeters tall.
01:02We have looked at a few Warhammer 40,000 figures in the past, so to compare along with the
01:07Reaver Sergeant, let's bring in a couple right now.
01:09Here's first what the figure looks like with the Space Wolves Wolf Guard, and here's as
01:13well what the figure looks like with the World Eaters Corn Berserker.
01:16Along with having many weapons to wield, the Reaver Sergeant comes included with a trading
01:19card and display stand.
01:21Looking though at the card first, it features on the front the Blood Angels symbol.
01:24Before I flip it around to the back, though, one thing I want to mention, though, about
01:27the card is it feels a little bit thicker than regular DC multiverse cards.
01:31Could very well just be me.
01:32On the back, though, it does have Blood Angels and a nice substantial read you can read for
01:36yourself for the Reaver Sergeant.
01:38If you don't want to read it, though, that's fine.
01:40I've actually already beaten you to it.
01:41I read it at the beginning of this review, but again, if you want to pause it, you can
01:44read it for yourself.
01:45I'll be putting this, though, along with the rest of my Warhammer 40,000 cards.
01:48I kind of keep them separate from my DC multiverse cards.
01:51I'll just be putting those in the sleeves in a second.
01:54Figure, of course, yeah, comes included also as well with a display stand.
01:57It's nothing really different at all from the DC multiverse display stands, other than
02:00the fact that placed on the bottom, we've got the Warhammer 40,000 symbol.
02:04And, of course, this can plug into either one of his boots.
02:06I would always really recommend it, especially for figures big and bulky like this.
02:09It's always really good to use a display stand.
02:11Have those always on the ready if you want to put these figures in more interesting poses
02:15than just having them standing straight like this, kind of like the capital A. Would it
02:19be a capital A or, I guess, a somewhat short-looking capital M?
02:23Either way.
02:24The figure, though, comes included with a backpack.
02:26The backpack actually plugs on his back via this provided rectangular peg.
02:31If you look at the back of the Reaver Sergeant, there's a slot here on the back, very similar,
02:35in fact, to the Wolfguard.
02:36The Wolfguard had it, and also, as well, the World Eater's Corn Berserker, but basically,
02:40you just take the peg on the provided back, just fit that into the slot provided on the
02:45back of his body, and just basically fit it in place.
02:48These are never the easiest thing to get in.
02:50You kind of have to put your pressure on the back of this to push this all the way in.
02:53And, of course, once you get the backpack on their backs, it makes them for a little
02:57bit more of a back-heavy figure.
02:58So, yes, keep those display stands on the ready.
03:02Something else he comes included with, as well, is a very large knife.
03:06All of these weapons have been molded here in silver plastic, with some additional black
03:10added to it, like the guns, for example.
03:12But the knife itself is a really nice, substantially large blade.
03:14It's pretty soft, though, in plastic.
03:17You can either fit this into his hands, or if you really wanted to.
03:20There is one storage space that, unlike all the other guns, at least for the knife, there's
03:24a place you can store it on the figure.
03:25He has this sheath on the back, although if you look from the front, actually, we'll do
03:29this first.
03:30Take the sheath, and you'll take the knife, and slide it into the back.
03:33It slides fine, but unfortunately, though, you can see right in the middle there, you
03:36can easily see how they haven't finished the inside of the sheath, so the knife becomes
03:41very visible on the inside.
03:42It kind of looks a little out of place.
03:44But he does also, as well, come included with some guns.
03:46Now, the guns themselves, if I can get the figure here just to stand here for a second,
03:51does come included with a grapple line gun.
03:54Again, all of these, again, have been painted in silver, but you can see some additional
03:57black's been afforded to them, as well.
03:59The hook on the front is non-removable, so it's all going to be molded as one piece.
04:03The figure, as well, comes included with the bolt gun, or the bolt pistol.
04:07The pistol is fairly small in size, but the handles are actually about the same size between
04:11them.
04:12Obviously, this just has a little bit more texturing on the front of it for the grip,
04:15but the handles are of equal size.
04:17The figure, also, as well, comes included with either the bolt gun or the storm bolter.
04:21I think it's actually more closer to being the storm bolter.
04:23It, again, is molded nicely here in silver plastic, with a little bit of black there
04:27on the front.
04:28The black, though, does mute things by adding more matte black, as opposed to...
04:32Honestly, I'm surprised that they didn't decide just to make this more of a shinier black
04:35to kind of go with the motif of everything else, kind of having a reflective surface
04:39to it.
04:40But anyways, again, you can take the storm bolter, and again, it can plug into his hands.
04:44The unfortunate thing about with any of these figures that we've looked at from the Warhammer
04:48the plastic that they use for the hands is always really hard.
04:51I would always really recommend, if you're having a hard time to get the guns in their
04:54hands, always heat the hands first in hot water.
04:57I've already done that, though, although, looking at this now, I probably should have
05:00heated it up again just before hitting record.
05:02But you can kind of also just take the gun and just start from the top and dowel your
05:07way until it goes all the way through.
05:09The unfortunate thing, though, about the gun is not only is it difficult to get into his
05:13hands, but once you get it into the Reaver Sergeant's hands, this seems to be something
05:17that's consistent with the Warhammer 40,000, is that they have, at least for the ones I've
05:21looked at, really loose shoulders.
05:23So while you could, in theory, have the bolt gun in his hands, he doesn't seem to have
05:27enough strength in his shoulders to hold it upright.
05:31I don't think it's necessarily too heavy, but it could more just be the case that they've
05:34made the joints way too loose, and I haven't really had to figure out the packaging for
05:38very long at all.
05:40Take the bolt gun out of his hands, we'll just put it off to the side, and getting a
05:42closer look, though, at the Reaver Sergeant, one thing I really like, though, is the head
05:45sculpt on this.
05:46Looking sort of more of a skull motif on the front for his mask.
05:49The neat thing about it, though, is it kind of reminds me of a Morton Joe from Fury Road.
05:53Nice color overall, they've done the figure, you've got a mohawk there to the top, some
05:57little bit of circuitry added there to the side, little plugs and everything else that
06:01he's augmented his face in.
06:03Nice being done there as well.
06:05I feel like, almost looking at the face, it does almost, in a way, look like there needed
06:09to be a little bit more paint.
06:10I don't know.
06:11There's something about the face where I feel like I can almost even see the color of the
06:15plastic underneath, and it might maybe more just be my eyes playing tricks on me.
06:19I think overall, like, the head sculpt is really good, but there are a few admitting
06:22areas on the figure that I think could have really used a lot more paint.
06:26Head sculpt is good, though.
06:27I do like the head sculpt.
06:28You've got the symbol there of the skull and the crossbones, of course, with the knives
06:31on either side.
06:32That's a really nice touch.
06:33You've got some grenades there on some side.
06:34None of these, by the way, are removable, so don't try to rip them off, whatever you
06:37do.
06:38Sculpting overall on the body is good.
06:39You sort of start with an underbody of black, and then they basically put the armor pieces
06:43over top of it.
06:44There are shoulder pads there on the sides.
06:46Again, there are a few little areas where I feel like the symbols, you can see there's
06:49a little bit of bleed of the black going through.
06:51You probably could have maybe gone in there and touched that up just a little bit.
06:54You could also say, too, that obviously the armor that they're wearing, too, is maybe
06:58seen a little bit battle time, so maybe you could justify why these be a little bit more
07:02worn off, but I just think that a little bit of paint could have gone a long way.
07:06He's also got, of course, the symbol there on the other side as well.
07:09These have a little more scratches, but I can kind of get away.
07:12I can give it a little bit of an excuse just because, again, if this guy's going into battle,
07:16some of these probably would have been scraped off in the process.
07:18Again, it's a nice looking figure, but there are a few little admitted areas where I just
07:22feel like the paint doesn't quite sell it as well as it should, especially on his knee.
07:27It doesn't look maybe ... The shoulder pad doesn't look as bad as the knee, but the knee
07:30definitely should have really used a lot more yellow than what they did.
07:34It's a very clunky, bulky looking figure.
07:35He's got some pockets there on the sides, longer pockets likely for ammunition, some
07:39slightly smaller pockets maybe for a medic pack, a couple pockets there also on the sides,
07:44and he also has some pockets on the back.
07:45The problem though with adding the backpack to his torso like this is the moment you start
07:48to swing things around, he's going to come really close in quarters.
07:52In fact, he's going to hit it a couple of times, the handle for the knife.
07:54So if you're planning to rotate this guy around, you just want to be careful that you don't
07:57hit the knife.
07:58At least the knife is soft plastic.
08:00If it was a harder plastic, you'd probably have a little more worries to worry about.
08:03My biggest worry, honestly, is that if moving this around, if it happens to snag the handle
08:08of the knife, I would worry that the sheath may rip off in the process.
08:11Luckily, it hasn't happened just yet.
08:14But for the articulation, though, for the reaver, let's start first with his head sculpt.
08:17It's going to be in a decent ball joint, really good actually.
08:19And also flipping this around, you get the chance to see there's just as much work done
08:23to the back of the figure that there is to the front.
08:25Head though rotates all the way around.
08:27You can have the head, I wouldn't normally have said looking down, but that's basically
08:30as much as it's going to cut it.
08:32The head looks a lot better up, but I mean, having it looking down, this is as far forward
08:36as it's really going to get.
08:37It does also rock back and forth too.
08:39There's an upper torso ball joint for the figure.
08:42The reaver sergeant also has a ball joint at the base of his abdomen area, so you can
08:45rotate there as well.
08:46Now, again, when it comes to these arms, the shoulder pads, the way they've designed these
08:50are essentially pegged in place as a ball joint.
08:52So you can actually independently move these around if you wanted to, but at least they're
08:56out of the way.
08:57They're also giving you just enough that you can pull off about 45 degrees on the arms.
09:01They're going to be a little more limited just because there's so much more stuff and
09:04bulk going on for the tops of the shoulders.
09:07You can at least rotate the arms all the way around.
09:08My biggest, though, takeaway is the fact I just feel like these arms, especially for
09:12the figures I've looked at so far, Wolfgard had this problem.
09:15I think also Korn Berserker also had this similar issue where I just feel like, again,
09:19a lot of it may have to do with the fact that you're adding shoulders over top, shoulder
09:21pads over top of the arms.
09:23You're also giving them then the responsibility of holding guns in their hands.
09:26I feel like maybe that's just asking too much of these shoulders, that the shoulders just
09:29seem a little loose on these figures.
09:32There is, though, a bicep swivel.
09:33The figure also does have a double hinge on the elbow, which I was really kind of surprised
09:36to see.
09:37I really shouldn't be because I think up to this point, all the other Warhammer 40,000
09:40figures have all had double hinges on their elbows.
09:43Hands do, again, rotate also all the way around.
09:46For the legs themselves, they split.
09:47The way that they actually designed these is, even though there is a lot going on here
09:50for the belt, these are at least separate from everything else around it.
09:54It doesn't seem to hinder at all, even really for the fact he's got these pockets also on
09:58the sides for his legs.
09:59Does it at all give any conflict when it comes to having the legs hinge out like this?
10:04You can bring them forward.
10:05You can bring them back.
10:06There's a bit of a mild swivel there at the top of the thigh.
10:08Double hinge also on the knee, which again, for the size of these figures, really impressed
10:12the fact that they managed to pack double hinges on the knees, double hinges on the
10:15elbows as well.
10:17For the feet, they move back and forth, although looking at them, obviously, you can know there's
10:20a little bit more limitations working with these.
10:23They move up and down, sure, but with the hinge being only this much to work with, you
10:27really can't get a whole lot of range with the ankle, but it does do a job pretty decently.
10:31The figure also does have toe articulation.
10:34As already alluded earlier in the review, the figure does have peggles on the bottoms
10:36of his feet.
10:37Although one thing I did notice though with the pegs is that they seem to be a little
10:41bit smaller than the actual, the peg holes seem a little bit smaller than the pegs provided
10:45on the display stand.
10:46So if you look and put this guy onto a display stand, you really have to fight to get them
10:49on there.
10:50All in all though, it's a good looking figure.
10:51I mean, the biggest thing, unfortunately, when it comes to the Warhammer figures is
10:54just the bulk of their size.
10:56When you're getting a figure that's bulky like this, it's going to cause conflict with
10:59the figure standing up properly.
11:01They're also adding some additional weight to the shoulders between the shoulder pads
11:05on the arms.
11:06And then the fact that you're also giving them again, the duty of holding then the guns,
11:10the storm bolter, for example, or any one of the bolt pistols, or even leaving just
11:13a hook gun, for example, any one of those could cause then problems with the figure
11:16properly holding it because now you're adding weight to that, which the arms themselves
11:21were already loose to start off with.
11:22It's just one thing that going back and having these on display, I've done it actually a
11:27couple of times with some earlier figures, maybe not necessarily the Warhammer 40,000,
11:31but it may need the case of going in there, stiffening up the joints just so in fact,
11:35the Reaver Sergeant could properly hold his guns.
11:37I knew I was going to forget something.
11:39One good thing about the articulation also for the Reaver Sergeant is that he has a collar
11:43piece where his head attaches onto that.
11:45The collar also seems to have its own independent swivel.
11:48So you can't even move the head even further up just because it's got that additional piece
11:52inside, rooted inside the top of his torso.
11:54You can kind of maybe even see it the way the figure is spinning around right now, the
11:58black part on the inside collar of his armor.
12:00So that actually does have its own independent articulation included that.
12:05Now the figure of course does come in clear with the display stand.
12:08Always really recommend when it comes to displaying the Warhammer 40,000 figures, whether it be
12:12the Reaver Sergeant, whether it be the Khorne Berserker or the earlier looked at a Space
12:15Wolves Wolf Guard.
12:17All of these figures are pretty bulky in size and bulk also adds to weight.
12:21The weight of the figures are just usually too large, especially if you're going to have
12:23them in running poses or somewhat, I guess the closest thing I could pull off with a
12:27figure of this size, somewhat of a running pose.
12:29Yeah, you definitely would want to use a display stand to pull off a look like this.
12:33At least for right now, the figure has the means to hold the Storm Bolter or is it the
12:37Bolt Gun?
12:38Either way, the figure has the means at least to display it right now.
12:41But if you want to have the arms pointing straight forward, unfortunately just the weight
12:44of that plastic in the gun is just too much for those poor shoulders to bear.
12:48And a lot of times the arms just droop down.
12:51As he is right now, he's fine.
12:52If I wanted to have the arms any further up from this, that's where I start to suffer,
12:56or that's where the figure starts to suffer when it comes to displaying that a little
12:59bit better.
13:00Overall, though, I like the look of the figure.
13:01There are a few little points, of course, when it comes to paint that probably could
13:04have been touched up a little bit more, but all in all, though, I think it's a pretty
13:07nice looking Warhammer 40,000 Reaver Sergeant.
13:10Big thank you once again to the folks over at McFarland Toys that of course did come
13:13through and provide the sample of the Blood Angels Reaver Sergeant that we had the chance
13:16to have a look in this review.
13:17Have you been picking up any of the Warhammer 40,000 figures?
13:20Let me know down below in the comments section which ones you guys have grabbed.
13:23If also you guys wanted to, and not that I want to push you in that direction, but if
13:27you guys enjoyed this video, why not throw it a like?
