00:00The daily minimum wage in Metro Manila can no longer keep up with the inflation rate, according to a study.
00:07The solution seen by a group with a large increase in wages is being pursued by the group of employers, according to a report by Vona Kino.
00:20Raymarc Billones has been a cook in a restaurant in Quezon City for five years.
00:24He is saving so that he can afford the minimum daily wage of Php 610 for the needs of the family.
00:40Mase Gime, who is the head barista of a coffee shop in Quezon City, is also saving for the solution of the minimum wage earner.
00:54The daily minimum wage in Metro Manila can no longer keep up with the inflation rate or the rapid increase in purchases,
01:01according to a study by the research and advocacy group IBON Foundation.
01:05Especially in the past two years, there has only been an increase in the salary of Php 40.
01:11That is why the Php 610 minimum daily wage is only half of the Php 1,200 family living wage,
01:19or the needs of a family with five members to live decently.
01:23For IBON Foundation, Php 610 should be added to the daily minimum wage in NCR.
01:29There are two things that will be pursued.
01:31Inflation in the past three and a half decades, which did not keep up, and the lack of salary in 1989.
01:39According to the Employers Confederation of the Philippines,
01:42Our problem is the high purchasing.
01:46The solution is to pursue the minimum wage.
01:48We should have a higher income.
01:52Microenterprises cannot afford to pay the high daily minimum wage.
02:02But according to IBON Foundation,
02:04Even in microenterprises, only 11-13% of their total expenses go to employees.
02:14So it is only a small part of the expenses to the employees of those companies.
02:19We are trying to get the statement of the Department of Labor and Employment,
02:23but they have not responded to our text messages.
