00:00Tourism industry players have slammed a proposal to turn Langkawi into a preferred Muslim destination.
00:09Hotelier Eugene Das and Boat Charter Company CEO Alexander Isaac said it is more important

00:20Das said the move to make Langkawi a preferred Muslim destination may lead to the introduction
00:25of sharia compliance requirements, which may hurt the tourism sector.
00:30Yesterday, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, proposed
00:37to make Langkawi a more family-oriented destination and enhance the focus on the spiritual aspect.
00:43Das, who is president of the Kedah and Perlis chapter of the Malaysian Association of Hotels,
00:49also called for an audit of the management of popular activities, such as tours of mangrove
