00:02 Destruction from lawn runoff doesn't just come from floods.

00:05 All the herbicides and fertilizers that residents of Ellicott City use on their lawns

00:10 spill into the estuaries of the Chesapeake Bay,

00:13 harming the fish, oysters, and the crabs.

00:17 The beloved Maryland crab.

00:19 Who'd want to hurt this little guy? Come on.

00:21 So, to help protect the precious Chesapeake Bay ecosystem,

00:25 we've brought in someone whose livelihood is threatened by lawns.

00:29 We found this nasty bastard. He's actually a crab fisherman out on a bay.

00:34 He just hates land in general, but he especially hates lawns.

00:37 So we were thinking we'd bring him by, you know, go wrangle this guy down,

00:40 bring him by, and just let him do his work.

00:42 Well, we're here so that people can work out their issues. So, let's do it.

00:46 Let this be his deadliest catch.

00:48 We're right on the Chesapeake Bay, this storied waterway.

00:54 We thought, what better person to have come kill the lawn

00:58 than this disgruntled and grizzled fisherman.

01:02 The guy just smells bad. That's the only thing.

01:04 But he's got this news crew following him around.

01:06 He's got some, some, one of these NPR journalists.

01:09 The truth is, he hates these lawns as much as he loves the sea.

01:14 Hate everything I'm looking at.

01:15 The chemical runoff poisoning the very waterways where he makes his lifeblood.

01:20 We're going to kill this damn lawn!

01:23 I hate it every time I see it!

01:25 Fish for lobster, crab, catches have been a little bit low lately, you know,

01:33 because the water gets so filthy dirty out there, it gets polluted, you know,

01:37 with all these runoffs from all the land and grass.

01:40 I'm not the crazy one! You're crazy!

01:43 Oh my goodness!

01:46 Having taken to the sea for many years,

01:50 he returned to the land only to find it changed.

01:54 This grizzled sea captain is taking out his rage on the lawn, patch by patch.

02:01 Community members have raised concerns that his presence here is disturbing.

02:08 He would argue that their lawn is disturbing,

02:13 disturbing the very ecological balance of the natural world.

02:19 Lawns need to die so that people can live, you know.
