00:00I think this is a perfect time to segue into what we're going to be showing, which is a couple
00:05videos, one being from last year. So if you're listening right now on the podcast, head over to
00:11the YouTube at Smiley Show and you could watch this swing. And this to me looks like in 2023.
00:17Is this at the Zurich Classic? Yep. This is at the Zurich Classic 2023.
00:22All right. Walk us through what you were doing last year poorly that you didn't like.
00:28Yeah. So funny enough, this was right after a good stretch of golf that I played,
00:35like the best stretch of golf that I'd ever played in my life. I just came ninth at the
00:38Masters, fifth at RBC. So a big thing I was trying to work on here was just distance control.
00:44And I didn't have my coach with me for a couple of weeks here. And the big thing that happens when
00:49Rick's not with me is my setup and takeaway tend to falter. And this takeaway right here is not
00:57good. It's really far outside. And I always take it outside a little bit. But man, this
01:02goes straight outside. The club is way in front of my hands. And what that creates for me at the
01:07top of the swing is super, super open face. And that's just going to lead to inconsistencies
01:13for me in terms of distance control, in terms of direction, because that's just how much more
01:19my forearms have to rotate through impact and how much more of a flip and timing base it's going to
01:25be. And you know how it is on tour with some of those grainy, tight fairways with a nine iron
01:31pitching wedge where you're just trying to focus on the contact. You don't want to have to worry
01:36about where I'm putting this ball in my stance. And in this video, too, I have the ball too far
01:42front of my stance, too. I know it's not, I can't see the face on, but it's really far in front for
01:46an eight iron. I think it's almost off my front toe. So. Wow. All right. Show us 2024. Charlie's
01:54going to pull up a video right now in, in which, which the fields that you and coach Rick are
01:59working on kind of walk us through what, what those are. I imagine moving a little back.
02:05Yes. So this is the biggest thing I've been working on the last eight months. Really. I
02:09haven't really worked on any technical other than this with my short irons. I've been working on my
02:14posture a little bit just to help me help the takeaway, get a little more natural. So the big
02:20thing is ball positions way further back in my stance, and that's allowed me to get so much more
02:25consistent contact. And I'm actually hitting it a little bit further because I'm sure I'm
02:30delivering the club with a little less loft as well. Um, but the spin rate has been more consistent.
02:35I've been able to control the flight better with the ball position further back. It's, it's hard
02:40to take it out really aggressively. So in this, in this swing video, I'm taking it back, you know,
02:45just a little outside, which I like, I don't want to get stuck inside. And, um, the back of my,
02:50uh, the top of my backswing is a lot tidier. Uh, the club face is more, I'm always a little open,
02:55but it's, it's closer to neutral and, and it's almost a little bit shorter too, because I know
03:00when to stop. Um, you know, I can feel, I can almost feel the club face at the top a little
03:04bit better. Um, Oh, it's good. Yeah. It was, it's, it's been a really nice transformation and, and
03:12it's, it's shown, um, on my stats and in the fields, I'm still working. It's still a work
03:18in progress. So I've did some really, really bad iron shots this year that are short irons that
03:23normally feel like would never hit. Cause I'm just so based off field, but it's nice to get
03:29like a little, little bit of technical with my feel in there. And then the good ones are just
03:33so much better and it's getting more and more consistent. So.
