00:00That that takes us right into some golf and the captain's picks and I think there's no better segue than the topic we just came from where we just watched Billy Horschel win the BMW PGA championship wondering if he should be on the team looking at past resumes of guys that maybe got left off.
00:20Here's a place I want to start because I think it's it's kind of interesting from a pig's perspective and just looking back at some of the research packets.
00:28Do you think Jim Furyk and just taking the first six guys or the next six guys on that points list past the six qualifiers was in some way shape or form trying just to prove a point of like hey heard all the clamor last year for the Ryder Cup about you know boys club this and that was that in some way sort of a message of like you guys had it that way now I'm just going to go straight off the points list system.
00:53There can't be any critique of me at that point you know what there's there's so many stats guys that they use they have all this information all these analytics to help build these teams and it's a very difficult thing to do and I think with you know how it's shaked out that it just happened to be the top 12 guys on points and the best as far as like when you move up and down the official world golf rankings it actually was the best 12 that the United States has at this point.
01:23You know it makes you I guess maybe besides like Bryce and I assume he's probably up there but he's not eligible but with that being said I I still you know it's so difficult to do right.
01:35I can make a case for Billy Horschel I can make a case for Akshay Bhatia I can make a case for Justin Thomas and I can make plenty of cases for guys that are on the team that shouldn't be on the team but it's it's Jim Furyk's team it's he's got assistant captains to help make these decisions and I think the golf course plays a huge part in how and why these guys were picked but you know I think they got their work cut out for him.
01:59I really feel like this international team is is very underrated. I'm I'm interested a little bit in the picks on the international side to see how they perform but you know I was impressed with how McKenzie Hughes has played this year.
02:13He's got a very hot putter and he's a guy that I felt like was a pick that that was much more of a reach. I would say from the Mike Weir side then I feel like Jim Furyk had an opportunity to reach for for a player to if he wanted to to go grab a guy that's you know 16 or 17th on points like maybe a Billy Horschel who's had a very hot run.
02:35That would have been a captain saying you know what I'm trusting my gut on this. I'm going with with Billy Horschel and then he wins at Wentworth. You're like you know what that would have been a great pick looking back but now with with with the way these teams have shaped up I think that it's going to be it's going to come down to like when you and I've read the research documents.
02:55I was shocked absolutely shocked that the international team has been so competitive but it's just been the foursome's play that has killed him. And that's you wouldn't think that would be something that would be such a struggle. Excuse me. I see the best ball not foursome's the best ball which is the you know where they play their own ball and for the most part be all the birdies like I would have guessed the foursome's play which is the alternate shot would have been the issue.
03:25Yeah.
