Montrezl Harrell Compares Himself to Dennis Rodman
Transcript
00:00 Montrez Harrell is a dog. He's undersized, he fights for a rebound, and plays tenacity that very few players can match.
00:06 For those reasons, he looks at himself as the modern-day version of Dennis Rodman.
00:10 In an interview on the Uncle Heads podcast with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles,
00:14 Montrez Harrell talked about his love both for Dennis Rodman and the similarities
00:18 he saw between the two players, saying, "I've been telling people I'm the modern-day Rodman for real. I'm the modern-day Rodman.
00:24 That's it. Rodman, man. Just to watch this whole process in general, man."
00:28 Other than the similar personality characteristics, both Rodman and Harrell have close matching physical attributes.
00:33 Harrell is an undersized 6'8" center and power forward, and Rodman was also an undersized 6'7"
00:39 power forward and center. While Harrell isn't quite the rebound that Rodman was, their games are still very similar.
00:45 That similarity is what makes Harrell appreciate Rodman, and that infatuation only grew during the last dance, saying,
00:51 "Like, even after the documentary I got on Twitter and tweeted, 'Hey, man,
00:55 we got to give a lot more credit than what we did to Rodman.'"
00:58 For Harrell, up to any player that was able to get out of the mud,
01:01 it would just consistently work and become something bigger than what they're expected to be, saying,
01:05 "I looked up to guys who just worked, just competed, just got after it. Looked up to guys known for that dog mentality."
01:11 While Rodman in a way frustrated all of his opponents, there was always a respect for the audacity of the man.
01:16 He was always willing to be unapologetically himself. The name Rodman meant something in a way that only superstars receive.
01:22 That's what made Quentin Richardson a fan of him as well, saying, "I'm not gonna say he was as big as Jordan,
01:28 but bro, he was right there. He was Rodman. Anything he did, anywhere he went, anywhere he showed up, it was bananas.
01:34 Rodman was out of here."
01:36 If Montrezl Harrell's career were to end today, and his legacy was one of being a modern-day Dennis Rodman,
01:40 it's fair to say his career would be a success.
