SI's Bri Amaranthus and Chris Halicke discuss how a shortened MLB season could possibly benefit the Texas Rangers.
Transcript
00:00 A 60 game MLB season comes with some interesting obstacles.
00:04 Players aren't going to have a ton of time to get ready for the end of July start date.
00:08 Depth is going to be a huge factor.
00:11 However, the Texas Rangers are constructed in a way they could actually benefit from
00:16 a shortened season.
00:18 Chris, what are some of those things that could actually benefit Texas?
00:21 Well, the 60 game season has a lot of people wondering how is their team going to do in
00:26 such a different looking season?
00:29 The baseball season is normally six months long, 162 games.
00:33 It's described as a marathon and now it's looking like it's going to be a 60 game sprint.
00:38 So the obvious question for the Texas Rangers is how can they possibly benefit the most?
00:43 And thankfully, because of what general manager John Daniels did to upgrade the starting rotation,
00:49 it looks like pitching is going to be what carries the Rangers through this kind of a
00:53 situation through this kind of a season.
00:55 Listen, they've got a really, really good one through five with Mike Miner, Lance Lynn,
00:59 Corey Kluber, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Miles.
01:02 But now those guys who are going to be getting more experience at the triple A level, the
01:07 Joe Palumbo's, the Colby Allard's, those guys will be in reserve, be ready to go in case
01:13 they need to fill in, spot start, whatever the case may be.
01:18 And then you have guys like Jonathan Hernandez and Taylor Hearn who can go multiple innings,
01:22 who can be used in a variety of ways.
01:25 And Chris Woodward is really excited about what a lot of these younger guys, what some
01:29 of the depth guys bring to the table.
01:31 So I think if the Rangers are going to make any kind of a run, their depth is definitely
01:35 going to be pushed to the limit, but it looks like that they're going to be deep enough
01:38 where if they can make a push for a postseason, for a postseason berth, it's going to be on
01:44 all of the arms in their rotation.
