00:00 Hello, this is Anisha for Outlook India.
00:10 So I am currently in Mangalore.
00:12 It's my day 2 here.
00:13 Mangalore is part of the Dakshinakannada constituency of Karnataka.
00:17 This is one of the areas of the state where BJP has seen a very dominant presence and
00:22 has continued to retain power, be it during the Lok Sabha elections or the state assembly
00:26 elections.
00:27 This seat has been a distant dream for Congress for over 3 decades now.
00:32 Although the party did manage to score victory in last year's state assembly elections,
00:36 it has struggled to make inroads into the coastal regions of the state which have seen
00:41 a more dominant presence of the BJP.
00:44 Yesterday, PM Narendra Modi held a huge roadshow in Mangalore.
00:49 He was accompanied by the BJP candidate for the constituency this time, which is Birjesh
00:53 Chautha.
00:54 He showed up in great numbers to welcome both the leaders to the region.
00:58 Meanwhile, today, India Bloc members, ARC and CPIM held a convention in the town hall
01:04 of Mangalore.
01:05 Other organizations like the farmers' organizations and feminist organizations were also present.
01:11 The clarion call given at the convention was simple, to defeat the BJP and its policies
01:17 that have been reigning supreme over the coastal region at least for the last few decades.
01:22 Some of the key points on which discussion was held was jobs, corruption, education,
01:29 health, arrested leaders, and people's concerns in general.
01:34 One key question that was posed by parties and leaders who were present at the convention
01:39 was that why neither the Prime Minister nor the BJP candidate addressed a public rally
01:45 or a discussion yesterday when so many people came to see them.
01:50 The parties demanded that such a discussion is necessary, especially on developmental
01:54 concerns plaguing the coastal area, which they alleged have been ignored under the BJP's
02:00 rule.
02:01 That's all for day one and day two.
02:03 Stay tuned with Outlook for more updates.
