00:03 parts far known and this morning, this very morning, we got invited down to the 2K offices

00:11 for our first hands on play with WWE 2K24.

00:16 So first of all, big thank you to 2K for asking us to come down and giving us the opportunity.

00:21 We had about half an hour on the game or so, 45 minutes maybe?

00:24 It was like an hour and a half.

00:26 Was it really?

00:27 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:28 No way.

00:29 It was like an hour and a half.

00:30 It was a long time.

00:31 Was it really?

00:32 Yeah.

00:33 Do you know what it was?

00:34 It's because I spent so long on that ambulance match.

00:35 I really thought we were in there for about 45 minutes.

00:38 I was so long in that ambulance match.

00:41 We'll come onto that in a little bit.

00:42 But first of all, I know some people will be wondering because it's you and I and it's

00:46 on PFK.

00:47 Yeah.

00:48 But we did not get to play My GM Mode.

00:50 My GM Mode was not in the build of the game that we played today.

00:54 So we're playing sort of like a, not a test build or a beta build or anything like that,

00:58 but it's a preview build.

00:59 Exactly.

01:00 It's basically like a, yeah, essentially a pre-release, pre preview, pre build.

01:05 Journalist.

01:06 Yeah.

01:07 Journalist mode maybe.

01:08 A journalist copy.

01:09 So it had like 10 male stars, 10 female stars and like four, five, six legends.

01:16 Something like that.

01:17 Yeah.

01:18 So it was a good roster within the game and there was various different match types that

01:20 we could get into as well.

01:21 A Royal Rumble, there was the ambulance match, the new and improved backstage brawl.

01:25 Yeah.

01:26 And then there was some of the showcase mode as well.

01:28 There were three showcase matches available to us.

01:30 So yeah, so no My GM Mode.

01:32 We did hear a few things while we were there.

01:34 A few rumblings from these, the 2K people, but nothing confirmed.

01:38 Nope.

01:39 Nothing that was concrete.

01:40 So we can't say, Hey guys, got a scoop for you.

01:42 So nothing like that.

01:43 But what we did hear was, was interesting.

01:45 It's just that we can't, don't know yet.

01:47 We don't know for certain yet until they announce some more details about My GM Mode.

01:50 Yeah.

01:51 But it was there on the menu.

01:52 It was right there and we just couldn't select it.

01:54 And I was like, I just want to see.

01:57 Because so we, they had the menu.

01:58 We can't show the menus.

01:59 It's one of the things we're not allowed to show is like the menus or like character select

02:02 screen and everything like that.

02:03 So only the foot you're going to see.

02:04 There's no menus.

02:05 We're not allowed to show that.

02:06 But on the main menu, there was My GM in the corner there.

02:08 And the 2K guy came up to us and was like, Oh, My GM Mode's there.

02:11 Like, just go and click that.

02:12 And I was like, I can't.

02:13 We can't do it.

02:14 I'm trying.

02:15 He was like, Oh, sorry, man.

02:16 Anyway, enjoy showcase mode.

02:17 And I was like, all right.

02:18 Yeah.

02:19 Cheers, Josh, I guess.

02:20 Yeah.

02:21 But we did get to play through various couple of things.

02:24 Here's my one line review of the game.

02:26 Yeah.

02:27 Do you like 2K23?

02:28 Then you'll like 2K24.

02:31 I think it is pretty much the same as 2K23, but with some minor improvements.

02:36 Yeah, that's it.

02:37 So it's essentially the same game, like same controls.

02:39 If you're used to playing 2K23, you're going to get along with 2K24 just fine.

02:43 It's a little bit more polished, I think, than 2K23 for the limited amount that I, that

02:47 we got to play on this one.

02:49 The entrances look a little bit nicer.

02:51 Some of the crowd interactions were a little bit nicer than 2K23.

02:54 I think it just feels like a bit more of a well-rounded product overall, but it is mostly

02:58 the same.

02:59 I think there's like new character animations in there as well, particularly when people

03:02 are getting up.

03:03 When I was playing as Rick Ruger in the showcase mode, I felt like there was a lot more of

03:06 the, him kind of like, Oh, I'm knackered.

03:09 So I'm going to go to the corner and sort of bring myself back up.

03:12 I felt like there was some new character animations in there.

03:14 But you're right.

03:15 Like I think it is, it still feels very immersive within there.

03:18 It's not like I picked it up and I was like, Oh God, this is exactly the same.

03:22 But it is the same, but it is more polished than it was before.

03:25 I think like there's some slight graphical improvements on there.

03:28 The entrances do look dead nice and it's smooth.

03:31 And I think because it's got that familiarity from the previous two games, yeah, it was

03:37 kind of like just pick up and play and just got straight into it.

03:39 I mean, I was quite impressed with a couple of bits of it where, you know, where, where

03:44 sometimes you've played wrestling games in the past where you would have an animation

03:48 that starts, but because you're on a separate bit of the ring, you just kind of like scoot

03:51 across to get to where the animation needs to be.

03:54 This one, it felt really like smooth, like everything kind of interacted in the place

03:57 it should be.

03:58 Like there's a lot of times where on previous games, like I struggled to do like a, like

04:01 a suicide dive to the outside.

04:03 Right.

04:04 I hit that thing like five times today without it.

04:06 It was really, really smooth and easy.

04:07 So I was quite impressed.

04:09 So I did play the ambulance match.

04:11 Yeah.

04:12 I also played an ambulance match.

04:13 This was the, this was the first thing I did on the game was I booted it up and I was like,

04:17 well, I can't do my GM mode.

04:18 I'm going to try this new ambulance match.

04:20 So I had a go on it.

04:21 I was Steve Austin, Steve Austin, 97 versus LA Knight.

04:25 Hilarious as well, because they had this build at the Royal Rumble.

04:28 The 2K guys were telling us they had this at the Royal Rumble the past weekend and not

04:31 like every single person, the first character they picked was LA Knight.

04:35 And I didn't, I picked LA Knight's two face.

04:38 Yeah.

04:39 But I was like, I still won.

04:40 I was like, oh cool, LA Knight, let's, let's pick him.

04:41 So I played through the ambulance match and I played it for a long, long time.

04:47 It was a long time.

04:48 To the point when, so you were, you were sat next to me in the bay next to me.

04:52 And we had one of our other guys there, Alex, and he was like kind of doing commentary behind

04:56 me.

04:57 And he was sort of mocking me because it was taking me so long to like get, get LA Knight

05:02 and get him into the back of the ambulance.

05:04 I don't know if it was like, it was the build of what it was, but it was like, I could say

05:08 this, I was like, it's taking me so long till I get him in.

05:11 I mean, maybe it was because I was trying to Irish whip him, but no, you've got to grapple

05:13 him, lift him up and then throw him in.

05:15 I was like, man, it's taking me ages to get in.

05:17 And then you get into the two different mini games you've got to do to close the door.

05:20 And that was taking ages.

05:21 And then, and I, I, do you know what?

05:23 I used this excuse when I did the hands-on preview last year.

05:29 But if you, I'm a, I'm a PlayStation guy.

05:32 If you put a blue X on screen, I'm going to press the bottom button.

05:35 I'm going to press the bottom of the four buttons, but it's not there on an Xbox controller.

05:40 So I kept getting, and the 2K guy was like, just got to press X.

05:44 So I was in my mind, pressing X, but I wasn't, I was doing music.

05:47 It took me ages to do.

05:48 Eventually though, I did win.

05:50 - Yeah.

05:51 And in my ambulance match, I did it for ages.

05:54 I was Cody Rhodes against Roman Reigns, trying to, you know, rewrite history.

05:58 And, and in that one, I hit, I think eight crossroads.

06:03 I just couldn't put him away.

06:04 - I mean, again, I picked LA Knight.

06:06 Like you probably shouldn't have picked Roman Reigns.

06:08 I didn't actually look at any of the ratings for people, but I bet you he's got a massive rating.

06:12 - It wouldn't surprise me.

06:13 - I bet you he's well big on the ratings.

06:15 But yeah, it took me so long, but I did win mine.

06:18 And, you know, Alex and you were sort of being like, oh, look at this and the other.

06:22 Then you finally got into it.

06:23 And I was like, oh, well, let's see how you get on then.

06:25 - Not so easy now, is it Pete?

06:27 - But I really thought you were going to win it dead quickly because you're like, you beat Roman up, threw him into the thing.

06:32 It was like, oh, that's that done and dusted.

06:34 - Done.

06:35 And then he literally kicked in the doors.

06:37 Oh, got out of the ambulance again.

06:39 - Pushing the doors open.

06:40 Nope, nope, nope.

06:42 He's like, come on, get in the ambulance.

06:46 - Overall though, I think it was really fun.

06:48 It was a fun little mode.

06:49 - And we found out as well, like afterwards, they were telling us that there's like mini games you can do on top of the ambulance.

06:54 You both get up on top of the ambulance.

06:56 There's some like back and forth mini games you can do up there, which I didn't know about.

06:59 I was just so focused on just trying to like win the match.

07:02 - To win, yeah.

07:03 - But it is like, it's a fun mode, which makes me excited for like the casket match that's in there.

07:07 So I'm kind of like, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on those bits.

07:10 The other thing we got to try was new backstage brawl area, which is the same as the old one,

07:14 but it's got some new environments that you can like throw people into and stuff, which you did.

07:19 - It's glass and I got to smash the glass.

07:22 It is great.

07:23 I was like, as soon as I booted up, I was like, that glass looks breakable.

07:26 Let's go straight into it.

07:28 It was great.

07:29 - We did a fatal four way.

07:30 - We did.

07:31 - In the backstage area, which was really good fun.

07:33 - And they have the elevator to go up to the top.

07:35 - Yeah, that was like the first thing I did was sort of like,

07:37 because you can choose like where you start in the backstage brawls.

07:40 I was like, I'm going to start in this catwalk area up here.

07:42 And the game started, it went bing, and I saw the door go bing.

07:45 I was like, sweet.

07:46 Going there, going up, going down.

07:48 I was like, this is wicked.

07:49 - It's like you do, you go like on, because you've got this elevated area

07:52 that you can get the elevator to get up to, you can then dive off that.

07:56 Which is great.

07:57 - I love stuff like that.

07:58 - So much fun.

07:59 That's like, that reminds me of the games I played when I was a teenager.

08:01 - Right, exactly.

08:02 - The wrestling stuff that was like jumping off the Smackdown fist.

08:04 - Exactly, yeah.

08:05 - So I really enjoyed that.

08:06 I won a Royal Rumble.

08:08 - Nice.

08:09 - And then number one was Rick Rude.

08:10 - Yeah.

08:11 - And I made it all the way through to the end.

08:12 I was pretty pleased with that performance.

08:14 - It was a huge story that everyone loved.

08:16 - Yeah.

08:17 I mean, I had you and Alex like enthralled with what I was doing.

08:20 - It was Rick Rude's time, you know.

08:22 - It really was.

08:23 - He finished the story.

08:24 - Well, I had to do that.

08:25 - Yeah.

08:26 - And we got to play through Showcase.

08:27 So we got to play through three different Showcase mode matches.

08:30 We had Rick Rude and Ultimate Warrior from WrestleMania V.

08:33 - Yeah.

08:34 - Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair from Mania 39.

08:36 - Yeah.

08:37 - And Cody Roman from Mania 39.

08:38 - Yes.

08:39 - We did see some of the other matches that you will get to do in the game.

08:43 Can't say what they are.

08:45 We're not allowed to say what they are.

08:47 But one of them, I was like, oh!

08:50 I even said, just like, "Pete, Pete, look."

08:53 - Mm-hmm.

08:54 It's quite exciting.

08:55 - Yeah.

08:56 I just -- I'm so thrilled.

08:58 - Yeah.

08:59 - I'm so excited.

09:00 - Yeah.

09:01 - So that's --

09:02 - It's going to be a really good time.

09:03 - That's going to be a really good time.

09:04 But I had to get revenge for Rick Rude.

09:05 [Laughter]

09:06 Because I tried the Ultimate Warrior one twice, and I failed on both attempts.

09:10 - Yeah.

09:11 - I did better on the second one.

09:12 I got, like, about three quarters of the way through on the second one.

09:14 But the first one, I just couldn't get anything going.

09:17 It's like, I got through, like, the first -- I should say, actually,

09:20 the transitions between the game and the video stuff.

09:23 - The real footage.

09:24 - Yeah, the real footage.

09:25 - Yeah.

09:26 - And the only showcase modes before, I thought was really smooth.

09:27 And it looked wicked.

09:28 And it felt, like, so immersive and stuff.

09:29 And you've got Corey Graves, like, narrating the story of the match and stuff.

09:33 And so I was really, really getting into that.

09:36 But I got into the second phase of the match, and I had just two instructions,

09:40 which was, "Stay on him."

09:42 - Yeah.

09:43 - Like, "Do more damage to the Ultimate Warrior."

09:44 - Do damage.

09:45 - And, "Hit your signature move."

09:46 - Yeah.

09:47 - I couldn't do A, which means I definitely couldn't do B on that.

09:50 He just pummeled the ever-living piss out of me.

09:53 I couldn't get anything going.

09:54 Hit the splash, and then it went.

09:55 I was like, "Ah, okay."

09:57 - Time to do a rumble.

09:58 - Well, first I was like, "Well, I'm trying that again."

10:00 - Yep.

10:01 - And I got a little bit further to the second side, but I was like,

10:02 "I just couldn't beat him."

10:03 - Yeah.

10:04 - He just kept going into beast mode.

10:05 It just kept dominating me, and I couldn't get anything going.

10:08 I'm not great at the reversals, which is probably, that's more on me than it is the game.

10:11 - Yeah.

10:12 - But, man, I was -- so when I did the rumble, I was like, "Right, that's it.

10:15 I'm starting as Rick Rude.

10:16 I'm starting as number one."

10:17 And I was like, as soon as the Ultimate Warrior came in, I was like, "You!"

10:21 That's just -- there you go.

10:23 - Meanwhile, I did the rear Ripley and Charlotte Flair WrestleMania 39 showcase mode match,

10:28 and I won with ease.

10:29 So it was all good.

10:32 I really enjoyed it.

10:33 It was great, and I won.

10:34 - Yep.

10:35 - It wasn't hard, mate.

10:36 - What happened on the Roman Cody one?

10:38 - I let Cody win.

10:40 I was telling history like it should have been told.

10:42 Cody should have won.

10:43 - That's not what you said, Pete.

10:44 - Ah, that's definitely what happened.

10:45 - That's not what you said, Pete.

10:46 You just turned to me and was like, "Oops."

10:49 - I mispressed the resiliency.

10:52 I was supposed to get out of a submission, but instead of pressing the right trigger,

10:55 I pressed the right button.

10:56 So then I tapped out as Roman Reigns.

10:58 So Cody won.

11:00 - I mean, we do now have footage of Cody holding both the belts.

11:03 - Exactly.

11:04 That is what's going to happen at Mania 40, I hope.

11:07 - I should say as well, actually, on my other -- the second time I did the showcase mode,

11:12 there's the rope break mechanic in there.

11:14 So it's not just that you get rope breaks if you're close to it.

11:17 I could press the B if I was close enough to it and Rick would reach out and grab the ropes.

11:22 And I did that in the second one, but the referee didn't see it.

11:26 The referee did not see that I grabbed the ropes.

11:29 And I'm there going like, "Ref, I've got the ropes.

11:32 I've got the rope break."

11:33 And he's there like, "One, two, three."

11:35 I was like, "You didn't kick out."

11:36 But I was like, "Oh, no, because I got the ropes."

11:38 But overall, I really enjoyed the showcase mode.

11:41 - It's never been my favorite part of a 2K game because obviously that's my GMO.

11:46 That's well the best bit of a 2K game because I get so stressed out with having to do the checklist of things to do.

11:53 But it is a very immersive part of the game.

11:55 - I really enjoy the idea of reliving something from WrestleMania's past,

12:00 of just kind of wrestling your own style of match.

12:02 You have to hit these points through it because also not only is it kind of letting you relive the match

12:07 and the environment that it was in, but it's also teaching you various things about the game.

12:10 Like if you're new to it and it says like, you know, you need to do this strong grapple or you need to do this thing.

12:16 It teaches you various mechanics about the game as well, which I quite enjoyed because I'm not very good at the game.

12:20 So when it says like, "Oh, you need to do like this combo and end with this thing."

12:23 I was like, "Oh, that's a dip."

12:24 I didn't realize you could do like different styles of combos.

12:26 You end with different things and it changes the combo.

12:28 Like that's cool.

12:30 So it was actually like an educational part of the game as well.

12:32 It's really, really good.

12:33 - And because it's going to be the 40 years of WrestleMania.

12:35 It's going to be like an educational tool of WrestleMania's.

12:38 - Wrestling history.

12:39 - Exactly, yeah.

12:40 - It's great.

12:41 - I'm really excited to see because we can only see like a couple of the ones the Ninh gets.

12:44 And that's why I was like, "Oh, this, this, this, and this."

12:46 And it makes me think of like, "But what couldn't I see?"

12:49 - Yeah, exactly, right?

12:50 - What couldn't I get into?

12:51 And yeah, that's our first impressions of the game.

12:54 It's out on March 8th.

12:56 Obviously, as we already know, Dan Layton is going to be joining us for the fourth series of the Monday Night War.

13:03 It's a three-player game that we're doing it this time, which is going to be really, really cool, really exciting.

13:07 So we're really thrilled to be able to bring back our Monday Night War series.

13:11 - Yes, cannot wait.

13:12 The four-peat's going to happen.

13:13 - Oh, yeah?

13:14 The four-peat?

13:15 - The four-peat is going to happen right now.

13:16 - We'll certainly see because like if I don't come last, I'll be happy.

13:20 Like what I'm looking for is that sweet, "I'll be second place."

13:23 - You'll come second again.

13:24 - I'll come second place again.

13:25 That's my aim for this series.

13:27 I'm looking to come second again.

13:28 - That'd be phenomenal.

13:29 - So, spoilers if you haven't seen any of the other three series.

13:31 But I'm going to come second for a fourth time in a row.

13:35 - But we're hoping to do some other stuff as well with the game.

13:38 We'll do some more like fun bits of content for you.
