Councillor Richard Williams from Sheffield City Council speaking about changes to city library opening times. Video: Sheffield City Council
Transcript
00:00 We're very proud of the library service we have in Sheffield.
00:03 Over the last 12 months there's been a major review, which I think is very exciting and will improve the experience of residents.
00:10 The key thing is the fact that our libraries are going to be open longer, a full five days a week, Monday to Wednesday and then Friday and Saturday,
00:19 which I think the feedback we're getting from the consultation is that this is really helpful for people and residents of Sheffield.
00:26 What I particularly like about our service is that each of the libraries are interconnected, so you can borrow a book from one library and return it to another.
00:33 Your membership covers you for every library across the city, and of course it's free.
00:39 Of course libraries these days are not just about books, they're about computers, they're about games, both for children and for adults.
00:48 And importantly, with the cost of living crisis, a lot of our libraries are welcome spaces where you can pop in, have a free tea or coffee, stay as long as you like, you don't even have to be a member.
