00:00Towns like Doncaster are absolutely vital in our plan for change.
00:04And Doncaster's a place I know really well because my wife's mum grew up in Doncaster,
00:10just looking over the racecourse there.
00:12That's why my wife loves racecourse, racecourse, by the way,
00:15is because it's in her family blood from this racecourse right here.
00:19And as a child, she used to come up to Doncaster all the time with her mum
00:22to see her extended family.
00:24And that's why we brought out and do bring our children up to Doncaster
00:27as part of our family history.
00:30And so getting towns like this to grow, putting more money in your pocket,
00:35that's the biggest thing that we can do to take control of our own future.
00:41And for decades now, this town, this region, the people of the north
00:46have been, in my view, underestimated.
00:49Your ambition, your ingenuity, your pride has not been back.
00:55Governments have either failed to deliver, that's what happened with levelling up,
01:00or ignored you completely, and that's what the Tories normally do.
01:04Or they've believed you can't control your own destiny.
01:09Well, no more.
01:10We're going to back you.
01:12We're going to give you the power to shape your future.
01:14And devolution is critical here.
01:18You saw that in a spring statement earlier this year.
01:20A massive investment in transport across the trans-Pennine region.
01:24And I do not want to give you the impression that Westminster politicians
01:30can decide your future better than you can.
01:34We've seen where that leads with levelling up.
01:37That's why devolution is so important.
01:39Because those with skin in the cane make the best decisions about their community.
01:45And that's what I mean about rewiring the state.
01:48We're going to rebalance power, control, and destiny back in communities.
01:54A politics that's more about partnership.
01:57With you, not to you.
02:00And that's why I'm really delighted to back the mayor's plans for Donkester Airport.
02:07This airport has sat idle for years.
02:11What a waste, as this community's had to watch that.
02:16Their airport, sitting empty.
02:20That's not just a huge missed opportunity.
02:23It's a question of history and pride and place.
02:27The first female RAF jet pilot trained right here.
02:32That's history.
02:33It's got the potential to drive growth right across the north.
02:38Especially, obviously, here in Donkester.
02:40So we're backing the mayor's plans.
02:42Backing this region.
02:44A sustainable aviation hub in South Yorkshire.
02:47Giving a lift-off for growth here in Donkester.
