00:00 Good afternoon. It's an unusual pleasure to be speaking to Colonel Mustard and Miss Scarlet,
00:06 in other words Ellie Leitch and Jason Derr, and you're on the road, on the road with Cluedo
00:12 2 with venues including Brighton and Southampton. Jason, it sounds the most fun play. What does
00:21 it owe to the actual game that we know and love beyond the name?
00:26 It is an incredibly fun play to be doing, Cluedo 2, with a fantastic bunch of actors
00:30 including Ellie Leitch, who you'll be speaking to in a minute. It owes an enormous amount
00:36 to the game. It's their 75th anniversary. It's the iconic game of Cluedo, which most
00:42 people know and love. It's your opportunity to guess who did it, with what and where,
00:49 what weapon, which iconic character. We bring that to life on stage in its live action version
00:56 Jason, you're saying you do play fair. We have a reasonable chance of guessing this,
01:00 don't we? Absolutely. We wouldn't be doing it if you
01:02 didn't. But you know, as with any good play, there's a lot of red herrings, so you can't
01:08 be, don't be lulled into a false sense of security. And I think there will be some surprises
01:15 along the way. Was this part of your own heritage, Jason?
01:19 Were you brought up playing this game? I was, funny enough. I was born in Singapore
01:24 and grew up in Hong Kong. There were only three games in our family. There was Monopoly,
01:28 a game called Subutir, which was sort of a football game, and Cluedo. And it was, you
01:32 know, obviously Cluedo was the most fun to play. And it's sort of fun. And then just
01:36 recently at Christmas, my kids bought a vintage version of the game and we all sat down and
01:43 argued furiously as to who did it and who was the best detective and who, you know,
01:49 which weapon. So it was great fun. Were you brought up on Cluedo? Is it something
01:52 you knew beforehand? I think that, you know, pretty much everyone
01:58 has heard of the game, but actually I've never played Cluedo before. We're really not like
02:03 a board game kind of family. So no, I've actually never played it, but I have heard of it. I
02:10 think it's very, it's a very iconic game, whether you've played it or not. And I'm really,
02:14 really excited to be able to bring those iconic characters to life.
02:18 Absolutely. You're bringing so much water to it, aren't you, as the Strictly champion
02:23 as well. What a fantastic piece of baggage to have with you. Yet you're still pinching
02:28 yourself about Strictly. What a wonderful thing, amazing thing to achieve, isn't it?
02:33 Yeah, it's incredible. It feels like an absolute dream come true. And yeah, it still doesn't
02:40 feel real. I don't think it will ever feel real that we, that I had that experience.
02:44 And also that me and Vito were lucky enough to, you know, win and lift the Glitter Ball
02:49 trophy. So yeah, I don't think it will ever feel real, but it was the most amazing experience.
02:55 The point is that success gives you the confidence to try something new, because let's make the
03:00 point this is your stage debut, which is something, isn't it?
03:03 It is, yeah. This is my stage debut. And yeah, from obviously I was on Corrie for 12 years
03:10 and from going from Corrie to Strictly and then kind of learning so much about myself
03:16 and Strictly changed my life and the way that I look at life now. So yeah, when Cluedo came
03:22 along I was obviously very nervous, but I was like, well, what's the worst that can
03:27 happen if I say yeah? Like, I just want to be able to make sure that, you know, I'm trying
03:33 new things and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. And yeah, so far I'm having the best
03:38 time and I'm really, really glad that I took that leap out of my comfort zone. And it's
03:42 been a challenge, you know, I've never done theatre before and it's something that's completely
03:46 new to me. And as much as it is acting, it's very different to what TV is. But yeah, so
03:53 far I'm having the most amazing time and I get to work with an incredible team and an
03:59 incredible cast. So what more could you ask for?
04:01 Absolutely. And Jason, it sounds like the audiences are loving it too. Not just the
04:05 actors, but the audiences too.
04:08 The audiences are fantastic. So far we've been playing to packed houses and they just
04:12 love it. They love to get into the Cluedo element of things and that sort of the whodunit
04:17 side, but also just, you know, belly laughs. They're just laughing themselves silly. So,
04:23 which is great for us because if they weren't, we'd be in trouble.
04:26 It's great for me. A laugh at the moment really. A good laugh.
04:31 A really good laugh in this day and age. I think it's just the comic we all need.
04:35 Absolutely. Really, really lovely to speak to you both. Thank you for your time and look
04:40 forward to very much seeing the show is coming in our area to Brighton and Southampton. Thank
04:45 you both.
04:46 Thank you so much.
