Transcript
00:00 I'm here at Sarah's place at Fatfield Washington in Sunderland
00:03 and it's really become famous in the town for its home-cooked food and also
00:07 Sunday dinners
00:08 it was actually when I was here a few months back for Sunday dinner that I noticed that
00:12 on her menu she had a number of eating challenges
00:16 there was one which was called the Mega Mixed Grill
00:19 there was also the Beastie Burger, there was also the Chip Shop Challenge
00:22 I remember at the time thinking, hmm, maybe I can do that, I've got a bit of a good appetite
00:25 although I must admit I'm not feeling quite as confident now
00:28 basically the idea is that you get a mountain of food comes out and you've got 20 minutes to consume it
00:32 and if you consume it in the 20 minutes you get that meal for free
00:35 so that's what I'm here to do today, I'm going to be taking on the Beastie Burger Challenge
00:39 I've just been sent the list and it is worrying me a bit, you've got
00:42 two beef burgers, two chicken burgers, a breakfast burger bun
00:46 which includes two rashers of bacon, two sausages
00:49 and hash browns and it comes with homemade hand-cut chips
00:53 and also coleslaw, onion rings and corn on the cob
00:57 I was chatting to Sarah before just to see what the success rate is
01:01 she's only aware of two people who've done it
01:04 one was a professional eater who did it for his social media channel
01:07 the other was actually a 15 year old boy who came with his five uncles
01:11 the five uncles failed but actually he managed to succeed
01:14 I've been doing a bit of pre-meal training, so I've been out on my bike this week
01:18 just trying to burn off those calories before I put them on
01:20 I've also not had it yet since last night when I had my tea
01:22 I had my tea last night at about 7pm, it's now come up for 3pm in the afternoon
01:27 so what's that, I think it's about 19 hours since I last ate
01:29 so I'll prepare as much as I can but I'm not sure if I'm ready for the challenge
01:33 so we'll have to wait and see
01:34 Have you heard of Leah Shutkala?
01:37 I haven't, no I haven't
01:38 So she's a professional eater and I watch her all the time on TikTok
01:41 so I just decided that I would do some food challenges
01:45 just to try and sort of promote business and it worked
01:51 as soon as I put them on we got Kyle vs Food
01:55 who is also a professional eater, he came and did the burger challenge
01:59 he did it in 14 minutes and then had a bit of cheesecake
02:05 and then after that we had a lot of interest in it
02:07 there's not been a lot of interest in the grill one
02:11 we've had a few people do that
02:13 we actually get a lot of people coming in and getting the grill one
02:17 but not doing it as a challenge
02:19 I'm doing the Beefsteak Burger one, I've been through what's on that menu
02:23 but what's in the mixed grill and what's in that?
02:25 The mixed grill is an 8oz rump steak, a 10oz gammon, chicken breast
02:30 4 sausages, 2 black pudding, 2 eggs, chips, onion rings, tomatoes
02:39 When I first decided to do them I got a couple of my friends over
02:42 to see how doable they were
02:44 and one of my friends pretty much inhales food when he eats
02:49 and he came and he gave it a good go and he got pretty close
02:53 so I thought if he can't do it there's not going to be many people who can
02:58 but then we actually had 5 brothers come in and try it
03:02 and one of them got down to the last few seconds
03:06 and literally all he had left was his pot of salad
03:09 so he failed it by this little pot of salad
03:12 they came back a few weeks later and one of them rang and said
03:16 "Oh my nephew wants to come but he's only 15"
03:20 so I said "alright, do you want us to do a smaller challenge for him?"
03:24 and he said "no, no it's fine, he wants to give the proper one a try"
03:27 so the 6 of them came in and I was obviously watching this one
03:32 who had nearly done it previously
03:35 who actually didn't get anywhere near this time
03:38 and the 15 year old nephew absolutely smashed it
03:42 Do people tend to fail because they just can't get through the food
03:45 or they tend to run out of time?
03:47 They run out of time basically
03:49 I think if you gave more time people would just plough through it
03:53 I think from watching people do it
03:56 you need to have a fizzy drink and a glass of water
04:01 and you sip those in between
04:03 When Kyle vs Food did it, honestly I've never seen anything like it in my life
04:07 it was literally bite down, bite down
04:10 there was very little chewing involved
04:12 As I say I've been prepared as I can, I've not eaten since last night
04:15 so I am hungry, I'm ready to go
04:17 just thinking about a possible strategy
04:19 my thought is leave things like the homemade cut chips till last
04:24 I think that might bulk me out too soon
04:26 so obviously I'm going to go for the big stuff first
04:28 to try and get the burgers down
04:30 then I think probably do the corn, the cob, the salad
04:33 and then leave the chips till last
04:35 I had hoped to maybe just pace myself
04:37 but speaking to Sarah there it sounds like you've just got to go from the off
04:40 so I'm not sure I'm going to get much time to enjoy it
04:43 I think it's just a case of getting as much down as quickly as I can
04:45 I'm not sure if I use a paper cloth for this before
04:52 but I'm using my hands to try and get it
04:55 It's quite hot
05:02 I'm sure I'll hit a wall at some point
05:04 I wouldn't normally eat this fast
05:06 I normally like to save my food
05:08 Ketchup on the burger
05:14 food time, I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:16 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:18 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:20 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:22 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:24 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:26 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:28 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:30 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:32 I'm going to let you have the ketchup on the burger
05:34 I think this will be a massive burger on its own
05:36 The food's in the burger, it's very very good
05:44 I'm actually able to enjoy it
05:52 One of these burgers on its own is big enough
05:58 to be a big burger
06:00 I normally tend to enjoy it a lot
06:26 I'm struggling to speak
06:28 I'm struggling to speak
06:30 Oh, very good
06:32 Oh, very good
06:34 Oh, very good
06:36 Oh, very good
06:38 Oh, very good
06:40 Oh, very good
06:42 I'm going to doubt myself
07:08 I'm going to doubt myself
07:10 Very nice, I'm eating that fast
07:12 I'm not confident
07:14 I'll keep going
07:16 I'll keep going
07:18 That's the problem
07:20 That's the problem
07:22 I can't eat any more
07:28 I can't eat any more
07:30 I can't eat any more
07:32 I've got through all the burger
07:34 I've got through all the burger
07:36 That just beat me
07:38 Started off well
07:40 Started off well
07:42 I was getting a bit worried
07:44 I was getting a bit worried
07:46 My body just started saying
07:48 Don't eat any more
07:50 I was getting to the point where
07:52 I was getting to the point where
07:54 I would be coming back up
07:56 I would be coming back up
07:58 I would be coming back up
08:00 If anyone does fancy taking on the challenge
08:02 If anyone does fancy taking on the challenge
08:04 If you can't do it, you're a better man than me
08:06 If you can't do it, you're a better man than me
08:08 That was a lot of food, good food
08:10 But Peter didn't get the chance to enjoy it
08:12 Because he was trying to eat it so quickly
08:14 Beat me, beat me
