After 10 weeks of burger-sampling, Lancashire Post Eats is ready to announce the city’s best burger.

00:00Hi, my name's Jack Marshall. I'm a digital reporter with the Lancashire Post and we're here today to bring you an announcement.
00:07Now, as some people may have seen, we've been doing, in our second series of what's called Lancashire Post Eats,
00:14we've been doing a food review series, really, looking for the city's best burger.
00:19Now, we've been out, we've tried a load of different places.
00:21We've tried everywhere from upmarket fancy places in the middle of the city to Maccies for a big Mac to see how that compares.
00:28And after sampling countless burgers, wiping my face with a load of napkins because of unhealthy amounts of burger grease,
00:37countless extras, a million gherkins, we've finally been able to announce a winner.
00:42So, without further ado, I'd just like to say congratulations to Boo on Cheapside, which has been announced as Preston's Best Burger.
00:50Now, just to give you a bit of a lowdown as to what I found with Boo.
00:54I came away thinking, I have not eaten a burger that good in ages.
00:58It was burger perfection. Everything about it was exactly what you'd want from a burger.
01:04It was a classic burger. It delivered on every single facet.
01:08So, congratulations to Boo for landing the first spot.
01:12Now, we're just going to run through the rest of the places we tried just to give everyone a bit of a mention
01:16to give you an idea of what our top 10 looks like.
01:18Not necessarily a top 10, but a ranking of the 10 we tried, what that looks like.
01:22So, after Boo, which took the top spot, we had the incredible Grillshack,
01:29which blew me away, especially with the extras that they served.
01:33I mean, and the value. The value is really outstanding at Grillshack.
01:36So, that was one which probably took me by surprise.
01:40I wasn't expecting much, but it delivered probably more relative to expectation than any other place.
01:47It was really, really like a huge winner. So, that was really positive from Grillshack.
01:52They got second place.
01:54Now, in third place, we come to Iceberg, which is a city centre spot.
01:59Quite fancy, kind of chic, modern burger place, which will undoubtedly catch the eye for a lot of people
02:06just because of how kind of, you know, that industrial style it's got.
02:10But, it was a simple burger done kind of perfectly.
02:14So, that really impressed. That came in third.
02:18Now, in fourth, we went to All Hopes No Promises, and this is probably Preston's most famous local burger spot.
02:26So, I was really excited to try that one. That was a really top-end burger, so that came in fourth spot.
02:31That was kind of like a culinary experience because of the extras they put on the burger.
02:35That was absolutely amazing.
02:37Fifth was another Preston local classic, was Tipsy Chef.
02:41They were just, it was an amazing burger.
02:44It just, like other ones, just went above and beyond.
02:47It was a proper classic, juicy, but I think juiciness was the thing that stood out the most from that burger.
02:54So, yeah, congratulations to Tipsy Chef. They came in fifth.
02:57In sixth place, we had Ohanas, which is one which really took me by surprise.
03:02I wasn't, well, I didn't know what to expect, but going in there, I was served this cartoonishly perfect-looking burger and chips.
03:08It was like it had been drawn. It was so, like, so kind of like idealised.
03:13It was the idealised version of. So, that really impressed me, and I didn't know what to expect going in.
03:18So, that came in sixth.
03:20In seventh place, we had, I believe, The Burger Hut.
03:26Just double-check here.
03:31Yeah, The Burger Hut came in seventh place, which was just, yeah, it delivered.
03:38It was probably lacking in, like, that classy burger-y nature, but it did have an innovation on it which I really enjoyed, which was Doritos on the burger.
03:46So, that was really, really nice.
03:48Next came Fresh and Fast, which was a nice burger.
03:52It was probably missing that kind of classic burger nature to it, like we say, with previous options.
03:59But what did stand out was the sauce.
04:01Now, they have their homemade sauce, which you can actually buy in bottles and take home.
04:05It had its own sauce on it, which was very nice indeed.
04:08It was probably just a bit too much of it, a bit too almost sloppy at times.
04:11And then, in the final two spots, fans of fast food chains will not be pleased to hear, is in ninth is Five Guys.
04:20It was a nice burger.
04:22They served a lot of fries with it.
04:24The cost just blew me away.
04:26It was too expensive for what it was.
04:29So, it lost out massively when it came to ranking and value for money.
04:32They finished in ninth.
04:33And then, in tenth, it might be sacrilegious to say as someone who's enjoyed the odd afternight at Maccy's, but it was McDonald's which finished in last place with an overall scoring of 8 out of 25.
04:44It did not deliver compared to some of the Preston's burgers.
04:46So, just a word to the wise in future.
04:49If you're ever hankering for a burger, don't go to Maccy's.
04:51Preston's got a lot of other really impressive places.
04:54And speaking of those impressive places, like we say, we have crowned Boo as the burger joint in the city which has got the highest rated burger.
05:01And we will be speaking to someone from Boo later this week to get the inside track on what makes their burger so special, what the secret is behind it all, really.
05:10And just to get an inside track on what it's like to work, operate, the goings on behind the scenes at the purveyors of Preston's very best burger.
