Conference in Athens discusses plans for Ukraine reconstruction

Rebuilding Ukraine is expected to cost more than 300 billion euros.

00:00 Diplomats, politicians and businessmen discussed the reconstruction of Ukraine during a conference

00:05 in Athens. This will be one of the biggest post-war development projects at the European

00:10 level. The European Union and the European Investment Bank have provided significant

00:15 financing for the reconstruction of Ukraine, amounting to 70 billion euros.

00:20 We do have very important projects in the transport sector, rail transport and also

00:27 the rehabilitation of roads. This is important for the exports but it is also important to

00:33 make sure that people can move within the country. Sometimes new roads save lives because

00:38 people can be evacuated from the front. We do have water projects which are quite important

00:43 as well because the water infrastructure is severely damaged. And then we do support the

00:49 small and medium enterprises through the local banks.

00:51 According to a joint estimate of the World Bank, the European Commission, the UN and

00:55 the Ukrainian government, the cost of reconstruction is expected to reach 411 billion dollars.

01:00 We are proud that Greece is already doing practical work and supports Ukraine all the

01:07 time. I invite both Greek and international investors and private companies that have

01:11 a view on the implementation of specific projects in Ukraine to invest not only in Ukraine but

01:17 also in their business. Thank you.

01:28 We want Ukraine to be close to Europe and we want to take a position in the reconstruction

01:46 The reconstruction of Ukraine will be a project for more than one generation. The urgent

01:52 intervention started from the first months of the war but the work required for the

01:57 reconstruction of the country will be as big as the battle that is being fought on the
