00:00 Every Chinese New Year, bright red lanterns and ornaments can be seen decorating people's homes.

00:05 You might also be familiar with these red spring couplets known as Chunlian.

00:10 While you might imagine a Chinese calligrapher to resemble an old man with a glorious beard,

00:15 Amy Chin is here to break that stereotype.

00:18 Chin has a deep love for this traditional art form,

00:22 and not even a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis can stop her from pursuing her passion.

00:28 The chronic disease causes inflammation in the body and commonly presents with pain in one's joints.

00:34 After being let go from her job, Chin found herself at the lowest point in her life.

00:55 But, encouraged by her family, she was driven to pick up her childhood hobbies of crafting and calligraphy.

01:02 Soon after, she started Fun Yu Yu, a social media store where she sells her calligraphic works,

01:07 combined with paper quilling, rolled, shaped, and glued paper that creates a unified and decorative design.

01:23 With her condition sadly worsening with age,

01:26 Chin's joint pain stops her from writing larger-sized spring couplets.

01:30 She now has to delegate those orders to her business partner, her husband.

01:34 And while it's likely she won't be able to continue her cherished hobby in the long run,

01:39 she still maintains a cheery and positive persona.
