00:00 Chris Jericho knocked out in a real fight with a WWE star!
00:04 Jeff Hardy upset with AEW!
00:06 And my review of AEW Dynamite, homecoming.
00:10 Next week will be AEW Dynamite far away from home.
00:13 I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:23 In 2021, Chris Jericho released a book called The Complete List of Jericho - a compilation
00:28 of his notes on every single pro wrestling match he had in the first 30 years of his
00:33 career.
00:34 A one of a kind documentation of 2,722 bouts in the ring.
00:41 But it might be time to release the revised and updated one, as it's been reported
00:45 he's had quite a few matches behind the scenes too.
00:48 Along with his infamous backstage fight with Goldberg - where Goldberg has since admitted
00:52 Jericho "kicked my ass" - and him confronting Brock Lesnar after Summerslam 2016, believing
00:57 Lesnar had gone into business for himself and legitimately beat Randy Orton up.
01:02 My favourite part of that whole story is when Lesnar reportedly kissed Jericho on the forehead
01:06 and threatened him to kiss him back.
01:09 It's now being reported Jericho had a real-life altercation with MVP back in 2020.
01:16 During the second Jericho cruise, entitled Rock 'Em Wrestling Rager at Sea Park II
01:21 Second Wave, Kestie Haynes from Bodyslam.net is reporting Jericho himself, on his own cruise,
01:27 got into a verbal altercation with MVP, who was days away from returning to WWE at that
01:33 year's Royal Rumble.
01:35 The two allegedly exchanged heated words before MVP knocked Jericho out.
01:42 Sean Ross Sapp has also corroborated the cruise knockout story on X.
01:45 Haynes added Jericho and MVP crossed paths again a year or two later in a hotel lobby,
01:51 where they had another heated exchange, which led to Jericho "hurrying to the elevator
01:56 and as the door closed saying 'I don't fight jobbers,'" adding new context to
02:01 the Judas by Fozzy lyric "and I will drag you down and sell you out.
02:08 Run away."
02:10 That incident was reported on in 2022 by Fightful and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
02:15 Apparently MVP, who was visiting friends who work for AEW at a hotel after a show, Jericho
02:20 approached him to discuss their issues.
02:22 MVP invited him "to discuss it outside", which is when Jericho allegedly got on an
02:27 elevator and said he doesn't fight jobbers.
02:31 Run away!
02:32 MVP himself tweeted at the time "even when they get the story right, they get the details
02:37 wrong.
02:38 Gotta love the dirt sheets."
02:39 Meanwhile Jeff Hardy's decided to just vent his frustrations on-air, in front of the scenes.
02:46 Following a promo on Rampage where Jeff said "somebody needs to get us on AEW Dynamite
02:50 so we can boost those ratings", he's posted the card for the AEW Dynamite Homecoming special
02:56 episode on Instagram with the caption "WE THE HARDYS WILL NOT BE APPEARING ON THIS LIVE
03:02 SHOW CALLED AEW DYNAMITE.
03:04 WE THE HARDYS ARE STUCK IN THE DIMENSION OF AEW RAMPAGE."
03:10 This could be part of a new disgruntled veteran heel character for Hardy, or legitimate frustration
03:15 over the brothers' minimised role since Jeff joined the promotion.
03:18 At one point, they looked likely to win the AEW Tag Team Championships, but Jeff found
03:23 himself suspended just five months after debuting for being arrested for driving under the influence.
03:28 AEW appears to not trust pushing Jeff as a singles or tag wrestler since.
03:34 Pro Wrestling has taken over our board gaming channel No Rolls Barred today with the Croak
03:38 and Ole Rumble.
03:40 Here's a tease.
03:53 A battle royale style version of Croak and Ole, where we're going to be eliminating one another, and every one and a half minutes, a new competitor shall enter the Croak and Ole Rumble. So join us on the 11th of January at 9am Pacific, midday Eastern and 5pm GMT to see who will win the Croak and Ole Rumble. And the winner of this Croak and Ole Rumble will face off against Lord of the Board Champion John Gracie.
04:23 In a future event to decide who is the No Rolls Barred Heavyweight Champion.
04:30 That's right John, I'm going to right some wrongs.
04:33 Because I'm going to win this Croak and Ole tournament, and then I'm going to come for you.
04:37 I'm going to come for you and undo what you did in Lord of the Board.
04:41 I will have my revenge!
04:46 Now it's Thursday, you know what that means - my review of AEW Dynamite… in about 5
05:16 minutes.
05:17 Making me feel like I had to suddenly wash all my online deliveries.
05:19 I've got lockdown wrestling PTSD, ok?
05:22 This show took place in the unique pandemic era staging of Daily's Place.
05:26 There might as well have been no one in the crowd, though, because it felt like Hangman
05:29 Page and Claudio Castagnoli were going to beat the hell out of each other for just themselves.
05:34 Page jumped Claudio as he got in the ring, prompting a non-stop back and forth first
05:38 time ever match between the two.
05:39 You've got all your favourite spots.
05:41 Claudio's swing.
05:42 Hangman moonsaulting off the stage.
05:44 And Page swigging a fan's beer.
05:46 Throughout was Hangman's new level of intensity.
05:48 This isn't your old self-destructive Hangman Page with no friends.
05:52 It's an evolved, post-swerve self-destructive Hangman Page with no friends.
05:57 Page won with two buckshot lariats, positioning him for a world title challenge in an absolutely
06:02 flawless match.
06:03 In honour of Brodie Lee, his handpicked protege Preston Vance tagged with Orange Cassidy,
06:08 Dustin Rhodes and Adam Copeland against Brian Cage, the Gates of Agony and pandemic era
06:13 Daily's Place fixture Lance Archer - even complete with Jake the Snake manager outside.
06:18 Lance and Cage were too meaty to coexist, though, taking each other out.
06:22 Like having both beef and pork on a Sunday roast.
06:26 Letting Vance get the win for the babyface team.
06:28 Bullet Club Gold's backstage interview was interrupted by the acclaimed and daddy-ass,
06:32 once again pitching they unite as the Bang Bang Scissor Gang.
06:35 Austin Gunn seems open to trading the Gunn Fingers for some Scissor Fingers.
06:40 Samoa Joe came out to a huge reaction as his first in-ring promo as AEW World Champion.
06:46 He explained there's a new way of getting title shots.
06:49 No more whiny promos or social media posts.
06:52 Cough, Jeff Hardy, cough.
06:54 Instead, you submit your record for the Championship Committee.
06:58 With no clear information on who that Championship Committee is, though, everyone just came out
07:02 to challenge Joe face to face.
07:04 Swerve Strickland entered with his whole mogul embassy to be interrupted by Hangman Page,
07:08 causing Strickland to walk away almost like he's a bit afraid of Page.
07:12 Hangman got directly into Joe's face and said he's coming for that world title next.
07:17 Much like MJF's reign, AEW are doing a great job of setting up multiple challengers for
07:22 the top belt, as once Hangman and Swerve had left, we got another one in hook, with a far
07:27 superior win/loss record than someone like, I don't know, Jinder Mahal entering for
07:31 a stare down of his own.
07:33 They'll fight on next Wednesday's Dynamite, which Excalibur announced on commentary.
07:36 I would've had Joe announce that himself in the segment, though, saying the committee
07:40 had already approved it following Hook's collision promo for the in-ring pop.
07:44 Ahead of their tag title match at Battle of the Belts on Saturday, Ricky Starks took on
07:49 'He's a Babyface Again' Sammy Guevara, which had a sudden end ten minutes in.
07:53 Sammy hit a superkick from out of nowhere and put on a technical pin to win.
07:58 Ricky went to shake Sammy's hand afterwards, because Sammy's a babyface again, don't
08:02 you know.
08:03 Which was a very obvious ploy for Big Bill to attack Guevara from behind.
08:06 In a stroke of production risk management genius, AEW then played Chris Jericho's
08:11 music while Jericho ran down to make the save, and never stopped it.
08:15 Making it impossible for anyone in Daley's place to boo him, as the lyrics to Judas are
08:19 just so fun to sing.
08:20 Run away.
08:21 It gave the segment a chaotic, wild thing from Anarchy in the Arena feel, providing
08:26 a fiery go-home angle while papering over any negative feelings from the crowd.
08:30 The second Brodie Lee tribute match focused on his other protégé Anna Jay, who tagged
08:35 in the Babyface team with Thunder Rosa, Willow Nightingale and Chris Statlander - with Stokely
08:39 Hathaway still trying to beat her manager, holding up a sign in the crowd - to take on
08:42 the heels of Serea, Ruby Soho, Julia Hart and Sky Blue.
08:46 Willow Nightingale was worked over during the break, which set up an 8 woman suplex
08:50 spot, the match breaking down and Anna Jay facing off against Hart, perhaps setting up
08:54 a match there, and tapping out Sky Blue to win.
08:57 Roderick Strong beat Brian Keith to build himself up for the International Championship,
09:01 which is classic momentum building booking if it wasn't for the fact that Orange Cassidy
09:05 is granting title shots to people who don't even ask.
09:08 Perhaps there was an opportunity to put over this faction in a mega way early on.
09:12 Just have Strong win the belt near immediately.
09:15 Adam Cole cut a decent promo, rehashing the Undisputed Kingdom's strength and respect
09:19 for each other afterwards, but it did feel like treading water when they should be escalating
09:23 their faction's threat on the promotion of AEW.
09:26 You could've had them come out in the Joe segment too, keeping them close to the world
09:30 title picture, having them on more segments and explaining away why they aren't challenging
09:35 immediately, with Cole laying out a stay of execution for Joe from Wardlow because they
09:39 worked together to take out MJF.
09:41 And the main event saw Sting and Darby Allin, accompanied by Ric Flair, take on the Callous
09:45 Families to Keshta and Powerhouse Hobbs in a brilliantly fun tornado tag that kicked
09:50 off partying like it's 2010 TNA, immediately starting with Sting crowd brawling.
09:56 The same week Impact is going to become TNA again.
09:59 Sting's TNA confirmed.
10:01 Sting took actual bumps, Ric Flair poked Hobbs in the eyes, while Allin and Takeshta continued
10:05 their amazing chemistry from last week.
10:07 The craziest spots were Allin's coffin drop off the bleachers, and Sting hit an Escorpion
10:12 Death Drop on Hobbs off the stage, only going through one of the two tables.
10:18 For a moment, Sting looked hurt, only able to make a very weak cover with the ringside
10:22 Dr and Darby rushing over to check him.
10:24 But he was able to get to his feet for the show's closing angle, revealing who his
10:28 final opponent will be a returning Young Bucks.
10:32 Yes, Sting's final match isn't to put over Darby.
10:35 Yes, the Bucks don't really have much obvious storyline or historic reasoning to wrestle
10:39 his last ever match, for now.
10:41 But I quite like the idea that Darby never has to turn on Sting, a guy who's had every
10:45 friend ever turn on him.
10:47 And protecting Sting in a tag match against the Bucks would probably create the best possible
10:52 wrestling he could go out on.
10:54 And most importantly of all…
11:24 This week's Dynamite is at 80%, but AEW is in the news for the wrong reasons as well.
