00:00The backstage reaction to John Cena's heel turn, an AEW star is in WWE 2K25, Tempest's
00:08review of AEW Dynamite and more.
00:11I'm Saiee Nyangi, today is Saiee Day, and this is WrestleTalk News.
00:18We're all still recovering from the shocking conclusion to WWE's Elimination Chamber
00:24where John Cena turned heel by attacking Cody Rhodes in a lining with The Rock, and Travis
00:30Scott was also there.
00:31And it turns out we're not alone, as when asked about the backstage reaction from talent
00:35to this earth-shattering event, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select replied,
00:40There was a lot of pleasant shock.
00:42Fightful Select had previously reported that the heel turn was kept very secret eternally
00:46with only a handful of people knowing it was going to happen.
00:50WWE even had a rundown of the show that had The Rock and Cody segment going third rather
00:55than the main event to keep the heel turn as secret as possible.
00:59SRS writes,
01:00This was the type of thing that even people on the roster had thought was possible, but
01:05they just didn't think would happen.
01:07He adds that there's a lot of excitement in the locker room as a massive angle like
01:11this will put more eyes on the product.
01:14And speaking of products, WWE 2K25 is nearly upon us with the pre-release coming out
01:19tomorrow.
01:20And with a new WWE 2K game comes a new WWE 2K DLC packs.
01:26Details of the first five character packs was released yesterday which saw unsurprising
01:31names like Road Dogg, Mark Henry, Victoria, Sid Justice, Junkyard Dogg, as well as new
01:37signees as Mortal City Machine Guns, Julia, Stephanie Vakur, Jordan Grace, and Penta and
01:43currently unnamed celebrities and NFL players.
01:46But perhaps the most shocking addition were ECW legend New Jack and TNA's legend Abyss
01:54who works as a backstage producer in WWE.
01:57But even more surprising is within the Attitude Era pack released in September is AEW's
02:02Daddy Butt Cheeks himself, Billy Gunn.
02:04Who are you excited for in the season packs?
02:07Let me know in the comments below.
02:08And just before we get into Tempest's review of AEW Dynamite, eagle eyed fans noticed that
02:13Greg Miller's profile had been removed from WWE.com.
02:18It's not being moved to the alumni section and simply made private.
02:21Trying to gain access to it via the URL gets a prompt message saying you don't have access
02:27to that page.
02:28Maybe you need VPN, who knows.
02:29Miller is a host of Kinda Funny and was brought into WWE to host VS Awesome, a show on Peacock.
02:35That show had its third season last year and Miller has revealed in a Greg Wave video on
02:40YouTube that he was aware the show was likely coming to an end once WWE was moving to Netflix.
02:46He reveals that he actually hasn't been with the WWE for a while as he's a freelancer
02:51and was hoping no one within the company would notice his profile was still on the website
02:56so he could boast about being a WWE superstar.
02:59He noted that the closing of the final episode of the third season was a send off to the
03:03show, a thank you to everyone who watched as they figured they wouldn't get to make
03:07more shows.
03:08He also revealed in a writing on the wall that the show was over when the people who
03:12make VS Awesome were laid off in January.
03:15Yeah that'll do it.
03:16And now, before I introduce the man that runs the place, the wickedly talented guy from
03:24the country that Pat McAfee fears because they boom people, here's Tempest B, Canadian!
03:34We boom people!
03:36We boom people!
03:39We boom people!
03:41And the camera goes...
03:43BLACK!
03:45Hello I'm Tempest, I miss that very much, and this is my review of AEW Dynamite in about
03:49five minutes.
03:50MJF kicked off the show with a ton of fire, still hung up on the fans claiming Hangman
03:54did nothing wrong like the perfect little insecure lad that he is.
03:58He said if Hangman wanted a fight, he'd be on the streets of Sacramento with a bullet
04:02with Hangman's name on it.
04:04We then went straight to a contract signing between Swerve and Ricochet, who entered wearing
04:08his third piece of Eagles merch in as many weeks, but with no robe.
04:12He said the robe is getting some upgrades, which pissed off Nana, 5 bucks says that robe
04:16shows up with an Eagles logo on it on Sunday.
04:19Ricochet said Swerve didn't need to worry about his house being burnt down this time,
04:23and Swerve wasn't having it.
04:25He said after Revolution, all Ricochet would be remembered for would be Swerve briefly
04:29revitalizing his career and his ring announcer wife.
04:32That line got legit holy shit chants, and it pissed Ricochet off enough to get him to
04:38try and jump Swerve, only to get stuck with a pair of scissors for his trouble.
04:42Swerve had a bit of trouble getting his words out in this segment, which we know nothing
04:45about on this show, but his aura carried him to incredible reactions regardless, and I
04:51love a babyface who cannot be outsmarted that easily.
04:54Honestly, the biggest shock of this segment was that Ricochet didn't mention the historically
04:59terrible Sacramento Kings, but maybe he just respects Demarda Rosen, like he should.
05:03Raptor pride.
05:04We then had our opening match, the first of many all-star tag matches on this show, as
05:08Will Ospreay, Powerhouse Hobbs, Mark Briscoe, and Orange Cassidy took on the Murder Machines
05:13Brian Keith and Mark Davis.
05:15The babyfaces took turns running wild with punches in the corner, but the Don Callis
05:18family cut off Orange, and that includes Don Callis himself, getting shots in behind the
05:22ref's back.
05:23Hobbs got the meatiest hot tag of all time, and then the babyfaces ran wild with a parade
05:28of signature moves, culminating in Ospreay hitting Keith with the Oss Cutter and the
05:32Hidden Blade for the win.
05:33The Don Callis family beat up all the babyfaces after the bell, and Kyle Fletcher came out
05:37to join in in kicking the s*** out of Will Ospreay, and it was here that we got the most
05:41development in Mark Davis' arc, as he was ordered to hit Will with a chair despite his
05:46reluctance.
05:47Kyle brainbustered Will through the chair while I noticed the support WrestleTalk sign
05:51in the crowd.
05:52Thank you very much, random citizen.
05:54As far as AEW party matches go, I think this is right up there with the most fun they've
05:58ever done.
05:59More 8-man tags!
06:00Give me one every week!
06:01We got Nomega and Takesh to video package that played up their history from DDT and
06:052023, and then Wheeler Yuta took on Cope.
06:08I love that there wasn't enough of a concourse in the venue they were running, so Wheeler
06:12began his walk to the ring from outside, I guess he just wanted some fresh air.
06:17Yuta hit Cope with the Psycho Knee and then locked in the Cattle Mutilation, but couldn't
06:21get the win as Cope hit the Glam Slam and perfectly timed his spear to catch Yuta mid-rewind
06:26Lariat.
06:27After the match, Cope shook Yuta's hand and said that this is what respect feels like,
06:31only for Mox to arrive and push Wheeler around to the point that he walked out on him.
06:36Mox then cut a promo on Cope backstage, and it was pretty standard stuff.
06:40This is probably still the match I'm least looking forward to at Revolution, but my anticipation
06:44for it has risen over the last month.
06:46It's gone from like a 2 out of 10 to a 5 out of 10, and that might not sound great,
06:50but it's improvement.
06:51We got an Outrunners workout video straight out of Smokey Mountain Wrestling, and I think
06:55we need to start releasing everything on VHS.
06:58It just feels better, and by better I mean nostalgic, and I don't want to live in this
07:02decade anymore.
07:03We returned to MJF outside and Rene tried to interview him, but Hangman then tried to
07:08run Max down in the mini JBL mobile.
07:11Hangman chased Max into the building and grabbed a dude that was dressed like MJF, which allowed
07:15Max to jump Hangman from behind and lay him out with a kick to the dick and the Heat Seeker.
07:20MJF had a shirt on saying MJF did nothing wrong, and I think Wrestling Statement shirts
07:25in that specific font is my favorite wrestling trope.
07:28MJF said these hypocrites love it when Hangman burns things, well let's see how they feel
07:33when he does it.
07:35Max then proceeded to try and light Hangman on fire before being forcibly carried out
07:39by like 12 security guys.
07:41This feud is money.
07:43Every single aspect of it has been perfect.
07:46And my favorite bit is, I don't know which way their match is going on Sunday, but I
07:51I would bet that whichever of them loses, it'll be because their insecurities have
07:55cost them the match.
07:57Let's see how the story unfolds.
07:58We had an interview with Queen of the Ring director Alex Lehas, I mean Ash Avildsen,
08:03who I've learned is the son of the guy that directed the f***ing Rocky movies.
08:07That's pretty cool.
08:08Thank you, Sat.
08:09Fact check.
08:10I love you!
08:11I love you, Sat!
08:15He introduced Toni Storm, who set up her sit down interview with Rene Paquette for later
08:18in the evening.
08:19Then it was time for Chris Statlander and Thunder Rosa to take on Megan Bain and Penelope
08:23Ford.
08:24Bain's strength was once again on display as she yeeted Thunder Rosa out of the ring
08:28and then yeeted her partner onto the pile as well.
08:31Can we say yeeted with regards to an AEW show?
08:34Like-
08:35It's the correct term.
08:36But legally?
08:37It's the correct term.
08:38Okay.
08:39That's yeet.
08:40This, the hand up and down.
08:41That's not yeet.
08:42Yeet is when you throw someone.
08:43Yeet!
08:44That's yeeting.
08:45Teach them kids.
08:46Urban Dictionary!
08:47Don't go on Urban Dictionary if you're under 17.
08:55Bain wrestles like an absolute giant and carries herself with the stature and star power of
08:59a big time giant as well.
09:01At times I thought we were seeing early signs of dissension between Bain and Ford, but they
09:05would have to be very early signs as Bain managed to hit the F5 on Thunder Rosa for
09:09the win.
09:10We need more women's tags on Dynamite.
09:12This was a tremendously fun match with loads of heat and only continued to make Megan Bain
09:16seem like the star she's probably destined to be.
09:18Renee interviewed Mercedes Monet and Mercedes put over how good Momo Watanabe is and said
09:23on Collision, Serena Deeb would break Momo for her.
09:27Mercedes and Renee have become a great back and forth act, with Renee doing all of Mercedes'
09:32catchphrases for her.
09:33I love when specific wrestlers and interviewers have that special dynamic like that.
09:38Max Caster came out for his latest open challenge and was answered by Jay White, who actually
09:42necessitated you f***ed up chance towards Max.
09:46This is how you know this is a crowd you need to come back to.
09:49They were great all night, but in particular with this segment.
09:53Jay hit the Blade Runner immediately and got the pin in 12 seconds, putting the exclamation
09:57point on the breakup of the Bang Bang Scissor gang.
10:00We had the sit down interview with Mariah May, Tony Storm, and Renee Paquette, and within
10:04seconds Mariah spit in Tony's face.
10:07Everyone played their parts exceptionally well in this segment, but Renee was really
10:10the MVP for me.
10:11She brought a lot of realism to this otherwise very wacky story, and I always appreciate
10:16a direct approach from a third party towards a delusional heel.
10:19But while Mariah gave a very good and impassioned promo, Tony responded with almost apathy,
10:25saying Mariah doesn't deserve death, she deserves to spend the rest of her career dwindling
10:29in mediocrity.
10:31Renee said that she prays neither of them get hurt, and simultaneously they both said,
10:36pray for her.
10:37Very silly presentation, but that has been the gig, and bottom line is no one else could
10:41possibly deliver this material as well as Tony Storm, and even as a wrestling caricature,
10:46she made me incredibly invested in her words.
10:50And then it was time for All-Star Tag Match number 3, and our main event as Ricochet and
10:54Kazuchika Okada took on Swerve and Brody King.
10:57This is my kind of main event, Swerve and Okada stood across from each other, oh hell
11:03yeah!
11:04The two sets of rivals paired off to brawl with one another, and the Defy lads ran wild.
11:08Ricochet caught Swerve with a codebreaker, to then get the heat, and I gotta say hearing
11:12We Want Brody chants sure does my heart a lot of good.
11:16Sure enough, Brody got a great hot tag until he was cut off by a flurry of offense, which
11:21meant that Swerve could get the comeback he needed, hitting I think the craziest flatliner
11:25I've ever seen, and that might just be because of Ricochet's cell job.
11:29Brody and Okada had one last exchange where Okada brought the belt into the ring, only
11:34to get hit with the house call, which allowed Ricochet to grab the belt and knock Swerve
11:37out for the pin.
11:39A great main event to cap off another great episode of Dynamite.
11:42How you could have a match this good, with such action, while still leaving Okada and
11:47Swerve almost entirely untouched, I think speaks volume to the layout of the match,
11:52and the foresight to set up what could be one of the biggest matches AEW has up their
11:56sleeve.
11:57Lovely stuff, and I truly cannot wait until Revolution on Sunday.
11:59This episode of Dynamite gets a 4 out of 5.
