00:00 A crazy WWE TNA theory, a big debut at New Japan's WrestleKingdom and my review of
00:07 AEW Dynamite.
00:08 I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:19 Today January 4th is WrestleKingdom 18, which has just started as I'm recording this,
00:24 but will probably be finished by the time you're watching it.
00:27 So here's something for you, viewer from the future.
00:30 Wow, Bryan Danielson vs Okada is match of the year already.
00:35 Wow, Will Ospreay vs Jon Moxley vs David Finlay is match of the year already.
00:41 Wow, other match from WrestleKingdom Undercard is match of the year already.
00:47 But I did get to see one thing.
00:49 The shock debut of Nick Nemeth, aka the former Dolph Ziggler, from WWE.
00:55 Nemeth was released from WWE in September 2023, meaning his 90-day non-compete clause
01:01 expired in late December.
01:03 As part of the IWGP Tag Team Winner Takes All match between Bischamon and Gorillaz of
01:07 Destiny, Nick Nemeth, along with his brother Ryan Nemeth from AEW, showed up in the crowd
01:12 to watch the match and were very prominently featured on camera.
01:16 Aside from the WWE affiliated FCW and OVW over a decade and a half ago, this is the
01:23 first time Ziggler has appeared in a wrestling promotion that isn't WWE.
01:28 It's almost weird, it's like seeing The Miz in an MMA fight.
01:31 Perhaps with New Japan's working relationship with AEW, we could even soon see Ziggler on
01:37 Ring of Honor television.
01:38 What would you want to see Ziggler do in New Japan?
01:41 Let me know in the comments.
01:42 Think it can't get any crazier than Dolph Ziggler to New Japan confirmed?
01:46 Well, according to some parts of the Interwebs, what's Quad H doing in the Impact Zone?
01:54 Ahead of Impact Wrestling's Hard to Kill pay-per-view, or should I say 'premium live'
01:59 event on Saturday 13th January, several fan theories are speculating that the soon-to-be
02:04 rebranded TNA is set to start working with WWE.
02:10 The speculationamania seemed to begin when TNA called Hard to Kill a 'premium live'
02:14 event rather than a pay-per-view in a new trailer for the show.
02:18 This is a WWE specific name, with all other major wrestling promotions still calling their
02:23 pay-per-views, well, pay-per-views.
02:27 Fans treated that as a smoking gun to connect their own bullet holes.
02:32 In early December, it was announced that Impact would be relaunching their subscription streaming
02:36 service as the TNA Plus app, which lets people watch the library of TNA and Impact shows,
02:42 with the higher tier granting access to their four major pay-per-views - sorry, PLE shows
02:47 - a year.
02:48 And the company they're partnering with to launch this app?
02:51 Endeavor Streaming.
02:52 A subsidiary of Endeavor, the same Endeavor that owns TKO and, by extension, WWE.
03:02 Everyone's eventually owned by Endeavor, I think.
03:04 The TNA Plus app is set to be relaunched on the 5th January, the day after another bit
03:09 of totally undeniable evidence.
03:12 WWE's much hyped announcement.
03:15 Triple H is set to make an announcement today, January 4th, as part of WWE's preview special,
03:20 which some have connected to the TNA Plus relaunch and the PLE main usage.
03:25 The Hunter's going to say TNA and WWE are starting a working relationship.
03:29 TNA to WWE confirmed.
03:32 This comes the day after NXT's Charlie Dempsey competing at All Japan to challenge Nakajima
03:37 for his Triple Crown Championship on January 3rd.
03:40 It seems WWE is trying to play nice with other promotions around the world.
03:44 TNA to WWE double confirmed.
03:47 And there's also the report that current Knockouts Champion Trinity, known in WWE as
03:52 Naomi, could be returning to the promotion soon, with Fightful Select writing WWE expect
03:58 her back when her TNA contract expires.
04:00 Which is soon, though it's unclear if this would be after TNA's next PPV, but PLE hard
04:06 to kill on January 13th or after.
04:08 Which means we could very well be seeing Naomi in the 2024 Royal Rumble.
04:13 Perhaps it could even be while holding TNA's Knockouts Championship belt, like Mickie James
04:19 did in 2022.
04:20 TNA to WWE triple confirmed.
04:24 Unfortunately PWInsider then had to come along with all their facts, and report that Triple
04:29 H's preview special announcement isn't about TNA and WWE working together, and there's
04:35 absolutely nothing to the connection.
04:38 Which is exactly what they told me about CM Punk to WWE.
04:41 But I knew!
04:42 I KNEW!
04:43 Now it's time for my review of the first AEW Dynamite of 2024… in about 5 minutes.
04:50 The New Year opened on our new World Champion.
04:53 Just not technically 'in the New Year', as it was a promo filmed on Saturday 30th
04:58 December 2023 following World's End.
05:01 Samoa Joe looks great with the title belt, and threatened if anyone tries to take it
05:05 from him, he'll take everything they love from them, just like he did to MJF.
05:10 I would've preferred Joe to be on the actual show, though, to kick off AEW's 2024 in
05:16 the biggest way possible.
05:17 Thankfully we got a very good follow up from the other thing that happened at the end of
05:22 World's End - Adam Cole's heel promo.
05:25 This was a completely revamped Cole from the start.
05:28 Production played his beloved 'here comes the boom entrance' music before stopping
05:32 it to debut a new heel remix.
05:35 How am I going to chump Boom and Bay Bay to the cadence I'm used to?
05:39 He didn't start with his 'who's ready for story time' catchphrase, and the Tron
05:43 awesomely just read 'undisputed'.
05:47 Because this faction is now a combination of all your favourite Undisputed Era and Kingdom
05:52 members Cole, Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett… and Wardlow.
06:01 Where's the lie?
06:03 Cole explained he's not the bad guy here.
06:06 As soon as MJF didn't need Cole anymore, Max would've turned on him.
06:10 He just beat him to the punch.
06:11 I really like this motivation.
06:13 Originally, MJF and Cole had trust issues with everyone.
06:17 Max overcame that, but Adam wasn't able to conquer his own demons, thus inheriting
06:22 the Devil moniker from MJF.
06:24 To me, that doesn't negate Cole and Max's friendship that I emotionally invested so
06:28 much into over the last half year, which I would've felt a bit cheated by.
06:32 In this way, perhaps Cole really did value MJF, but his own insecurities got the better
06:38 of him.
06:39 A great potential storyline I can't wait to get into in about 8 months' time.
06:44 Because Cole is very injured right now, so it's up to the rest of the Undisputed Kingdom
06:48 to back up his threat.
06:50 Strong will be going for the international title, and Wardlow will work his way up to
06:54 the world title, where he'll do the right thing and forfeit the belt for Cole.
06:59 Which Wardlow reacted to… with this facial expression.
07:03 Essentially the kid at the back of the class going "yeah right, miss.
07:07 I'm definitely going to do that homework."
07:10 Roddy saw it.
07:11 I reckon that's a long-term build to another Undisputed Era wrestler to replace Wardlow
07:16 down the line.
07:17 Where's the lie?
07:18 In an unexpected, awesome babyface positioning for Bullet Club Gold, Jey White of all people
07:24 interrupted to say he loves what they did to MJF, but he didn't much appreciate being
07:28 the collateral damage.
07:30 They were joined by the acclaimed and daddy-ass to chase off the Undisputed Kingdom, who were
07:34 protected and escape by defending Cole, as Dr. Samson screamed he isn't medically cleared.
07:39 Having even AEW's most typically heel faction in the gangbang gang annoyed with the Undisputed
07:45 Kingdom, to me, got this new group over even more.
07:49 The first match of 2024 saw Orange Cassidy defend his international championship in a
07:53 spirited bout against Dante Martin.
07:56 Cassidy did his roll away from the dropzone spot, so Martin impressively springboarded
08:00 with added airtime - although not Wacken Wild levels of airtime - for a splash.
08:05 Cassidy retained with the Orange Punch.
08:07 Then Mark Quaim made his return from 13 months out due to injury, reuniting private party
08:12 with Isaiah 'Aha' Cassidy.
08:14 They put everyone in the tag division on notice, even the hardest.
08:18 It's great to see them back, and it really added to the Golden Era Dynamite feel of this
08:22 episode.
08:23 Speaking of the tag titles, House of Black accepted FTR's match for Collision, where,
08:28 if the House wins, Dax and Cash should disown their own wife and child and join Manakai
08:32 Black.
08:33 Wow, things really escalated quickly.
08:35 Mariah May won her debut match next against Queen Aminata.
08:38 It was oddly structured, as most of the shine was on Aminata's brief comeback, when this
08:43 should've been a showcase for May's heel persona.
08:45 I think we might've all been a bit confused whether she was Toni Storm's downtrodden
08:49 babyface or a heel sidekick.
08:51 Thankfully that was much more cleared up in the post-match interview, where she dumped
08:55 on your local hometown wrestler Deonna Purrazzo, declaring she is all in and telling May to
09:03 tell Storm that she will find her.
09:06 Mariah had a great reply, saying "I'm not the messenger, so go tell her yourself,
09:09 bitch."
09:10 They brawled, and Purrazzo stood tall.
09:12 Deonna is such a good wrestler, I'm just concerned about the follow-up here.
09:16 Because I've seen many women get added to AEW where their first feud is to lose to the
09:20 champion - from which they don't really recover.
09:23 COUGHTIE VALKYRIE FACING JAKE CARGILL COUGH.
09:25 Christian maintained he's held the TNT title for 200 days and a great in-ring promo - which
09:30 isn't totally accurate when you lose and win it back in one night.
09:33 He thanked Mother Wayne.
09:35 He thanked that apple of his eye Nick Wayne.
09:38 But turning to Kill Switch, he mostly thanked the guy who sealed the deal.
09:42 The guy who put the last nail in the coffin of Adam Copeland.
09:48 And was expertly worked at getting the crowd to chant for Luchasaurus.
09:52 Sarrayah seems to have a scheme with Harley Cameron backstage to cash to beat Darby Allin
09:56 in a fantastic match of the night, where I think I only counted two different moves.
10:01 Knees or German Suplexes.
10:04 It's like Kenny Omega blended with Brock Lesnar.
10:06 But every single execution of those moves was excellent.
10:10 A sick jumping knee to Darby's Bullet Dive.
10:13 Three rolling German Suplexes down the ramp.
10:15 And the top rope German Suplex and knee to win.
10:18 Takeshita and Hobbs challenge Sting and Darby to a match next week.
10:22 After a brilliant tournament with the likes of Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland
10:26 and Jey White, we got a four way to decide who will challenge first for Eddie Kingston's
10:31 Triple Crown Championship.
10:33 Trent, Brian Cage, Brian Keith and Vikingo.
10:36 I get New Year, New Me, but AEW have presented these four guys as total undercarders, and
10:42 it was a significant step down from the star power of the C2.
10:46 Trent won, and he'll be facing Eddie on Collision.
10:49 It was the main event that got the better rub from C2, as it had two of its breakout
10:53 stars in Swerve Strickland vs Daniel Garcia.
10:56 They had a really good match, with Swerve somehow managing to work heel while being
11:00 super over with the crowd.
11:02 But arguably the best spot didn't even involve him, as Garcia and Prince NaNa did the Rock
11:06 Hogan WrestleMania X8 spot to set up a dance off.
11:09 Garcia was put over very strongly in defeat, kicking out of the house cool kick and the
11:13 Swerve stomp, getting a great near fall for himself off Swerve's disbelief, but Strickland
11:18 won with a JML driver.
11:20 Swerve went to shake Garcia's hand in the post-match, but NaNa low blowed him instead,
11:24 which set up the year's first big angle.
11:27 Hangman Page had already stormed around backstage with fire in his eyes, saying he just wants
11:31 to beat someone up, having returned from being attacked himself by the Devil Goons.
11:36 So he ran down to the ring here for a big pull apart brawl with Swerve, rekindling one
11:40 of the best feuds from 2023.
11:43 Strickland had previously said how he'll be coming for the World Championship earlier
11:47 in the night, so perhaps this will be our No. 1 contenders match for Revolution.
11:52 AEW Dynamite is 85%.
