00:00 Hi AD, I'm Danielle Borlas,
00:02 the design director for Sohouse in the Americas and you are the first person to
00:06 visit Sohouse Mexico City.
00:08 Sohouse first opened in Greek street in 1995 and this is our first property in
00:24 Latin America for Mexico city.
00:27 So today I'll show you the interior of the Casa. We have our salon,
00:31 which is our main club lounge that has a very rich historical details.
00:36 I'll also show you our atrium space for our restaurant.
00:40 And then lastly our sunken lounge speakeasy,
00:44 which is in the basement of the Casa. Come on.
00:47 Welcome to the salon of the Casa. In here,
00:57 you'll see we have our existing spaces that were the living room of the
01:02 original house.
01:02 We've taken the liberty to create some bold colors in each of these rooms so
01:08 that there's a series of context and layers in each of these spaces.
01:13 It's really about mixing the old with the new. That's through vintage,
01:18 local textiles and ceramics.
01:21 And this last room is our library where it's really kind of that space where
01:27 to come and work for the day into the evening.
01:29 So using the history of the house has really anchored kind of the textures that
01:34 we've really been inspired by. Um,
01:37 but really creating a new energy that's both creative,
01:39 bold and a little bit daring.
01:42 We really wanted our first house in Latin America to be a strong identity that
01:47 can stand, you know, another 20 years.
01:49 Welcome to the atrium of the Casa.
01:53 This is our main restaurant space where members will have breakfast,
01:57 lunch and dinner. This is a space.
02:00 We really wanted to celebrate the scale of the Casa.
02:03 So mixing traditional shapes with our furniture and contemporary art,
02:08 it gives a lot of energy to this space,
02:10 but it's so important that it's comfortable, you know, for our members,
02:14 this should feel like their own home.
02:15 So you want to sit and have dinner for hours, you know,
02:18 be really relaxed and enjoy the space. For Mexico City,
02:23 we really wanted to focus on those jewel tones, the kind of that iconic,
02:27 vibrant color that we see throughout the city. Uh,
02:31 so in this room specifically,
02:32 you'll see our deep blues mixed with reds and a dusty rose for the area.
02:37 Ah, here's Kina Padden, uh, head of our art curation for the house.
02:43 She's going to walk you through our beautiful art collection.
02:46 Welcome to Mexico City. Soho house. My name is Kina Padden.
02:52 I'm one of the two co-curators for this collection. I worked with Kate Bryan,
02:57 who's the global director for art for Soho house on this wonderful amalgamation
03:01 of Mexico City artists. And we're very excited to show you around here in the
03:05 restaurant.
03:06 We have this like amazing impactful space with a real gift of high
03:10 ceilings, beautiful natural light. When we started curating this collection,
03:15 the focus was going to be introducing our global members and our new Mexico
03:20 City members to the vibrant art scene that exists here in Mexico City.
03:24 This collection is going to encompass by the end over 150 different artworks.
03:30 The idea is that a global member coming to this house can have an immediate
03:35 sense of what's happening in the art scene here.
03:37 And that local members are able to either revisit old favorites or discover new
03:42 talent for themselves.
03:44 One of the works we're so excited to present to local and global memberships is
03:48 this wonderful painting by Ana Segovia.
03:50 Welcome to the reception of Soho house Mexico City.
04:02 I'm so excited to present to you this for us very long awaited commission
04:07 by Celeste.
04:08 Celeste is an artist duo made up of Maria Fernanda Camarena and
04:13 Gabriel Rosas Aleman.
04:15 One thing we immediately loved was their color palette,
04:17 very earthy, natural, organic color tones. In fact,
04:21 a lot of the colors that you see here are made with natural dyes.
04:24 If you look carefully, each panel connects as one continuous drawing,
04:28 but the way that the collaboration came about,
04:31 they immediately did it to react to the space,
04:34 taking into account the natural light,
04:36 the historical architecture and the surrounding elements.
04:39 The effect overall is that you walk in and it feels like you are being hugged
04:44 by this fabulous artwork. It's almost like returning to the womb.
04:48 And I think that the members are going to feel very comfortable,
04:51 warm and welcomed as soon as they walk into the space.
04:54 Oh, you're already here.
05:08 This is the most secret room of the Casa. Come,
05:13 let me show you how we designed it.
05:14 When we moved into the Casa,
05:19 this was the wine cellar and an existing art collection of beautiful pieces.
05:24 So we kept the existing footprint and created a series of lounge spaces for the
05:28 members.
05:29 This is really for that nighttime party zone a little bit of a secret for
05:34 our members, uh, so that you can be cozy, have a drink,
05:38 cocktail and really feel like it's always been here.
05:41 We maintained the existing finishes of the cellar, uh,
05:46 and then adding in our classic Soho details of art and sconces and furniture
05:51 throughout the process.
05:53 We've been really being honest to the materials. Uh,
05:57 so we're really excited about our DJ vinyl bar that will be down in the Casa
06:02 every night.
06:03 Welcome to the main bar of the Casa,
06:06 a central point of the house that we think is going to be the perfect watering
06:10 hole for our members and guests.
06:12 Here we have three fabulous strong pieces that also showcase our
06:16 relationship with three wonderful galleries here in Mexico city.
06:20 We have a piece here by Melanie Smith with whom we collaborated via Proyecto
06:25 Paralelo. We have this wonderful tapestry by Dr. Lacra,
06:29 thanks to our relationship with Cudi Mansuto.
06:32 And over here at the side of the bar, we have Gabriel Enrico with OMR.
06:38 For us,
06:38 the collection is really about integrating emerging artists with museum level
06:42 names and hoping to watch all of those careers blend together.
06:46 This art collection serves as a love letter to the artists and makers and
06:50 gallerists of Mexico city.
06:52 We hope that they will see themselves reflected in the space,
06:55 feel inspired by the space and hopefully continue their relationship with us.
06:59 As you'll see throughout the house, the art is hung quite democratically,
07:04 no labels. We want members to experience the works for themselves.
07:08 See what they connect to and hopefully discover something new.
07:11 Thanks for coming to visit us and come back soon.
