00:00Today's service marks the beginning of Pope Leo XIV's papacy bringing together royals, world leaders and spiritual figures.
00:19The event is attended by around 200 foreign delegations including EU leaders, EU Commission President von der Leyen and Ukrainian President Zelensky.

00:34Some of the central themes of Leo's papacy are outlined in his homily and the fisherman's ring which the Pope will begin wearing from today symbolically marks the start of his pontificate.
00:47As was the case during Pope Francis' funeral, the occasion reinforces the Vatican's role as a mediator on the global stage in the light of the new pontificate and ongoing efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine in line with Pope Leo's call for peace.
