00:00I
00:30climbing climbing now they can relaxing a little bit as you can see immediately
00:39move pedersen move up front is a very fine descender he's a brilliant descender isn't he
00:44as pedersen one of the best very best in the world right now of course he'll roll over the
00:49line in first place a pedersen and pick up those maximum points at roca fluvioli the first line in
00:55the tarmac the first opportunity to score points in the classifications goes to maz pedersen in the
01:02malia ciclamino who extends his lead over everybody else building up a huge big anzoli riding on the
01:10front close now to the top of the climb should be tonelli's points yeah tonally definitely is not
01:15interested into the key i'm just classification as we check who's frigo is it yeah michael frigo just off
01:25the front from
01:45have a couple of riders each uh it's gonna be the case of them like sacrificing for
02:00one for the other uh otherwise this group you know it's uh you know it's not really like
02:06they everybody when it's too large everybody's trying to save a little bit more in terms of energy
02:11i'm a little bit surprised to see florenzo fortunato take the uh sprint there
02:19now that second group is out of sight at the moment
02:24they are beginning to lose a bit of contact at least on that bit of the road
02:28so at the front of the race fortunato is there tarotzi ulissi
02:32arieta from ue van bala and welco kelderman bad day is looking good today luke plapp is the only
02:38jake who alluded rider there cohen bauman's off the back damien hausen david a formula
02:43marco frigo georg steinhauser and nicola podon left hand side there and roman bad day just as you
02:49identified is actually going to make life difficult here for the lens of fortunato fortunato gets on the
02:54wheel of the frenchman bad day looks round checks where's that finishing line has fortunato got a kick
02:59that can come past bar day he's handily placed there in the slipstream if he can get round him
03:04where's the line now fortunato sprinting for the line against bar day and it's going to be mighty
03:10close and fortunato fair play to him gets there ahead of roman bad day takes those 40 points and
03:16bad day will have to settle for second and 18. wow he had to go deep there yeah there was uh
03:30uh and if you feel like you can close down the gap on them uh that's the way to go and now are
03:40it actually now is probably two fine climbers um i i would be surprised if but they won't try anything
03:47um but uh they had the chance now to bridge back and try as a riet is bridging finally bridging back to the
03:55to the duo nearly there isn't he he looks around in surprise almost to see what's happening
04:01where's steinhauser gone clap ah look perhaps come round steinhauser steinhauser is beginning to wilt
04:06under the pressure he's still there but luke plapp has just sprung around him um when the gap was
04:12close enough for him with one big effort to get across to the front of the race so that's
04:16that's harsh on georg steinhauser but luke plapp has played georg steinhauser masterfully there
04:20yeah yeah body language of uh stay now certain is gibison a couple hundred meters to go for luke plapp
04:28who is just off the front of a three rider chase group of wilco kelderman eagle arieto who's rejoined
04:35them and uh diego ulyssi now at the very top of the climb it doesn't ease down
04:50very very steep uh descent with a nice and not unusual
05:20drawn vision of uh luke plapp as he is almost on top of the red book kilometer
05:28it's uh it was placed on a vet on top of a very very hard little kicker
05:35definitely demanding for plapp as he's now at 55 seconds ahead of uh arieta but in nasty climb as
05:42you can see is like still climbing good but this gives you an idea how steep it is and from here on
05:48is going to be basically all descent or flat to the very end the the last 500 meters uh gently going
05:55happily won't be won't bother him so he's about to take another right-handed turn and it'll kick up the
06:01road ahead of him ever so slightly and then it's a left-hander and into the finishing straight here we
06:06come heading towards that finish line he'll see it ahead of him now and he'll know that it is done he's
06:12uncatchable luke plapp he's come here chosen the stage where the breakaway was nailed on for success
06:18survived a torrid battle to get in the move found himself in the company of 19 other former champions
06:25and great riders and has destroyed the field to win by a handsome margin luke plapp takes the ovation
06:32of the crowd here in castor raimondo hands on the head in disbelief luke plapp a winner of a stage at the grand
06:40tour for his first time in his career and that is what it feels like jake or ulula win luke plapp win

07:43.
07:50.
07:55.
08:00.
08:05.
08:11.
08:12Mate, every year in Australia, you're a superstar in January.
08:18Today, your first delivery in Europe.
08:21How do you feel?
08:23Yeah, it's pretty crazy.
08:25I still can't believe it, to be honest.
08:26I feel like it's been a long time coming.
08:30Always targeting the Aussie summer and just never been able to make a result happen in Europe.
08:35Last year, I got so close to the Giro so many times.
08:39And for today to happen is so, so special.
08:41We marked it as a stage for a few weeks now.
08:45And then this morning on the bus, we're really, really excited.
08:47So to make it happen, it's a dream come true.
08:50The hard part was to make it happen because the fight was difficult at the beginning.
08:55Jeez, that was unbelievable, the fight to get in the breakaway.
08:59It just kept going and going.
09:01There was one point there where I was following way out so many times, I was almost dropped myself.
09:06And then I gave it one more chance just to try to get in there.
09:08And there was a massive group that made it.
09:10And yeah, it was such a fight to get in the breakaway.
09:13But it was all worth it in the end.
09:15And to have Koon in there as well with me, it was amazing.
09:18What made you go solo with 45 kilometers to go?
09:20I knew I couldn't beat any of them in a sprint.
09:24So I knew I had to go at some stage pretty early.
09:27And yeah, I think the way the racing's been going this year, the long moves have been really,
09:32really successful.
09:33So that was sort of in the back of my mind.
09:34The first one to make a move, I think, always has an advantage.
09:36So I just thought I'd give it a crack.
09:40And to be honest, just wanted a bit of a head start on the descent as well.
09:43So to stay away all the way to the finish is definitely not what I expected.
09:47Is this win sweet because of all the setbacks, the last one in the time trial?
09:52Yeah, for sure.
09:53I think from the Olympics last year to wrist surgery in February are now crashing.
10:00The first TT, it makes everything almost worth it.
10:03I mean, the lows in cycling are super, super low.
10:07And there's a long time between highs.
10:08So to have a result like this is amazing.
10:11Well done, Mike.
10:12Thanks.
