00:00Chad's former Prime Minister and Opposition leader, Suksem Masra, was arrested early on
00:05Friday morning at his home in Garci, a district of the capital in Jemena.
00:09Surveillance footage shows the leader of the Transformers Party being taken away by a squad
00:14of armed men.
00:15He's been accused of inciting hatred and in connection with deadly clashes in the southwest
00:20of the country.
00:21His party said he'd been kidnapped and are demanding his unconditional release.
00:25Heavily armed men in military fatigues broke into the residence and proceeded to abduct
00:36the president of the Transformers Party, who is also a former Prime Minister, Dr. Asyongar
00:42Suksem Masra.
00:44The Transformers, a party that has always advocated peaceful civic engagement, wishes to express
00:50its deep concern over this brutal action, carried out outside of any known legal procedure
00:57and in blatant violation of civil and political rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
01:06Later in the day, a public prosecutor explained why Masra, a fierce critic of President Mohamed
01:12Debi, had been arrested.
01:19You may recall that following the attack that took place on the 14th of May in Mandiago,
01:25a village some 18 kilometers from Bainanmar in the province of Legon Occidental, investigations
01:32conducted by the judicial police revealed the involvement of Mr. Asyongar Suksem Masra.
01:39His alleged involvement incited the population against a community living in the area.
01:45Messages were circulated, particularly on social media, calling on people to arm themselves
01:51against fellow citizens.
01:56Wednesday's violent clashes are believed to have been triggered by a land dispute between
02:01herders and local communities.
02:03At least 41 people were killed and more than 80 others have been detained.
02:07But now Masra, who came second in last year's elections, is calling on his supporters to
02:13remain calm.
