00:00we had to wait six months and 21 days to get racing again after the amazing battle of brands
00:16to finish 2024 this amazing national championship that has pipe fans around the world gripped
00:24with unrivaled racing action if you're new to bsb then you're in for the ride of your life if you've
00:31seen it all before you know what's to come if you're sitting comfortably you won't be for long
00:36we are ready to go racing here in bennett's british super bikes and this is how they line up on the
00:43grid the 2022 champion is back in business with the fastest ever lap around alton he starts from
00:49pole ahead of the reigning champion kyle ride with leon haslam old but gold starting from third
00:55on the grid heading row two is max cook he's got danny kent next to him and charlie nesbitt cook and
01:01nesbitt entering their third season of bsb then it's idan storm stacy and josh brooks who have all
01:06had speed over the course of the weekend lee jackson heads row four of course a race winner around here
01:11and former champion tommy bridewell with work to do scots one starts from 12 most of the work though
01:16is going to be done by glenn erwin who has to start from 14th after a fall in qualifying keep an eye
01:21on him but as the names roll through on the grid you tell me where to stop when you can't find
01:27somebody might just bike for a podium some point this year james i cannot wait for this all to get
01:32going now i mean either and the feeling uh is neutral everywhere around the paddock and around
01:38the stands and people sat at home i have never seen as many people packed in uh the camping areas it's
01:43unreal we've just got the aerial shot there absolutely packed weather conditions is dry
01:48there is a bit of a breeze but fairly perfect conditions otherwise yes it is perfect conditions
01:52the only thing we've got to watch is track temperature the new tire doesn't like so much
01:57to call the track temperature it's quite warm now we'll say track temperature above 20. what we do know
02:02about this new tire is we don't know what's going to happen with it over an 18 lap race we're about
02:07to find out they line up then onto the front row steve rogers is back he remembers how this all feels
02:14and his man is on pole position and of course the newly named nitrous competitions omg team know how to
02:21win their champion starts from second on the grid the fans are ready we are ready and the riders are all
02:29on the grid ready to do battle 18 laps of altered park coming your way and it's eyes on the lights
02:37bsb is go good start from all on the front row good start also from max cook on that kawasaki from the
02:44second row number 30 he goes up to third brad ray gets the whole shot danny kent's made a really good
02:48start at the mccams yamaha as well he's a bit wide on exit but he goes up to fourth yeah great start from
02:53danny losing the rear going and just got shoved a little bit wide by max a good a good start in max cook
02:58leon haslam not off to the best of starts he drops two places then so he's now in fifth but it's brad
03:04ray number 28 that leads from kyle wright cook already thinking about a move perhaps he's up to
03:08third danny kent will want to try and get rid of max cook early on and is he already lining up a move
03:12no he's not defensive there from cook yes he was defensive going into shell oils and i'll tell you
03:17what this might change the strategy of brad ray if he had one because if he's getting it back i just
03:22think he might have a go getting away depending how much work they've done on longevity of the rear
03:26we will keep track on tommy bridewell and glenn irwin it'll be no surprise to you that they're
03:31like magnets on circuit they're pretty much next to each other already just coming into the top 10
03:37in the background there it looked like a lunge from christian idden ray it is that leads down into
03:40his stuff there is glenn irwin
03:43didn't quite catch tommy bride i think yeah he did i can see him there he's behind lee bob jackson
03:50yep there he is so coming up towards druids now it's kyle wright there he's already coming under
03:57pressure from max cook on the atn steel stock kawasaki yeah uh new max cook we see this year
04:02stronger fitted and a lot of training he's ready for this he needs to push on this year third season
04:07in bsp this is a good opening lap from brad ray yes as we come over the line he's already built a
04:12couple of tenths advantage what a standing start first lap with brad ray on his introduction back to
04:18life in bsp 37.3 from the standing start yep around old hall corner we go it's danny kent they're
04:26just in fourth place leon haslam then not to the best of start for the number 91
04:31there's bit follows then it's stacy storm stacy in seven brooks eight even nine you get the impression
04:37that max cook feels he's been held up a little bit by the champion kyle wright of course you know
04:43the kawasaki can do the job here wide of it there from danny kent and max cook is challenging
04:48the reigning champion
04:49i'll tell you what he must be pushing on there because it's so difficult to lose the front there
04:56the camber really really helps you in that respect he had to have a go i think he felt he was being
05:01held up and i think he knows he's made a big mistake there oh max what a shame and what a good
05:06effort he's really pushing on look he's wide he can't get the brakes on as early as he wanted to
05:09know because the bike still went over and he was running a little bit wide and that's yeah
05:14that's such a shame it is because that was a heck of a first couple of laps there from
05:20matt's cook car ride did well actually to not go down as well it was right next to him yep we've
05:24now got yamaha's one two and three with ray out front and ride then kent but kent's now coming
05:29under pressure from leon haslam on the ducati number 91 behind him charlie nesbit storm stacy
05:35christian josh brooks lee jackson but look at this this job brad's doing yeah and this looks
05:40about a one and a half second getting up to two second lead and once you've got a two second lead
05:44you can start to control the pace a little bit slack off a little bit save the tire a little bit
05:49he was so quick here in the test yeah he was all right across the line of 33.312 is a new
05:56bsb race lap record three tenths off the lap record on his first flying lap look at the gap
06:02between him and ride it's over a second quicker than car ride on the second lap of the race yeah
06:07he means business and he's gone he's checking out yeah the beauty of that for him is like i said
06:14you can start easing up a little bit you can start using a little bit less of the tire
06:17he is sending out a message here of course it's early days a long race this 18 laps around
06:23alton park yeah very physical 18 laps around this place but so far so good for bradley ray on the
06:29raceways yamaha through britain's we go you can't even see any other bikes in the same frame
06:34he's just set another fastest purple sector and sector two as well we might be about to see the
06:42first ever 132 in race dream yeah which the lap record has to be in a race to count that is uh
06:48unbelievable there's nesbitt there's still space just behind him the two dow racing hondas tommy
06:52bridewell struggling a bit he's down in 11th he's behind glenn erb and his old foe so not quite got the
06:59set up nailed on just yet i reckon bradley's put another second in that first half a lap for the
07:04rest this is going to be some lap yep we'll keep track of it there are the two down racing hondas
07:09there is kyle ryde now trying to fend off danny kent into lodge corner we go they're all bunching up
07:16a bit actually behind leon haslam that's rory skinner thinking about a move on tommy bridewell
07:21let's get brad ray over the line then and see what we've got here
07:23it is well our time screens have just frozen briefly we'll get the lap in in a second
07:30but he is on absolute fire here it is a 33 193 so close to a 32
07:372.4 seconds up on the reigning champion kyle ryde and if you're kyle at this stage
07:43you've got nothing to brag so the best case scenario right now for kyle is i've just got to do my job
07:48and try and defend off these guys correct yeah you've got to try to push too hard not at all
07:52you've got to manage your race you've got to sort of take the seconds and thirds when you can and
07:56that's what kyle's been really good at last year win when you can and don't do anything silly when
08:01you can't you're just tuning in unfortunately andy erwin out injured i will miss the weekend
08:06lewis rollo didn't even get started here this weekend an injury in navara so we send our best wishes
08:11to the pair of them you're looking for glenn erwin and tommy bridewell they're 10th and 11th at the
08:16moment trying to fend off skinner swan and richard kerr who's in the point which is a fine effort
08:21on the m lab rocket bmw christian hiddens gone straight on at his ease easy to do through the
08:29double chicane and you've got to watch out when you're rejoining because you're right into the
08:33firing line when you come back on to the track there's scott swan brilliant the rookie
08:37trying to nibble away at points already in his opening race out of druid you can just see brad
08:44ray off into the distance now it'll just be management mode as well because let's not forget as we just
08:50mentioned as glenn erwin thinks about a move we still don't know what's going to happen to the
08:54tire sort of past mid race distance yeah but actually you know if you can if you've got that
08:59sort of two two and a half seconds lead like brad ray has that you've used a little bit more tire on
09:04paper at least getting away uh but then you can start to sort of slow it down a little bit and you
09:10can manage it if that's what he might have done a race running he might know he could do this for the
09:14race the beauty of vsb is that every circuit we go to is different completely you get different
09:19riders that's why yeah and so bikes excel at different circuits different riders do but what
09:24we can say at the moment is this is some pace set by brad we can't say that we're on lap five
09:29and he's three and a half seconds clear
09:31really really impressive from ray there is scott swan just going on shell oils that's kurt on the
09:39rocket bmw as well and this is the lead that you can see he's exiting britain's as everyone else
09:44enters yeah that's about three and a half seconds there yep that's leon haslam at the moment just
09:48trying to keep himself steady for the time being he's not rushed himself despite falling back a couple of
09:54places on the motor rapido to catty charlie nesbitt is just behind him as well definitely worth a
10:01mention yep impressed by charlie on uh on the master mac honda really clicking with it now he's like in the
10:08same boat as max cook in terms of he has to make it count this year third season in the bsb class
10:13men of course we've got storm stacy as well number 79 out on the bathams agn bmw i think for storm this
10:22year he had a breakthrough year last year of course that brilliant win at snetterton that was so
10:26spectacular in horrible condition yes it was but the key thing we want from him this year is the
10:31consistent top eight isn't it yeah and he so far he seems to have clicked with the bmw uh he's enjoying
10:37the fact it's uh quicker than the and he slides into old hall corner at the rear uh but yeah he
10:42seems to be enjoying it and he seems uh a lot more competitive than than we've seen from him before
10:47and he's three riders on that lap in the 133 the race leader obviously brad ray who's still half
10:52second quicker than anyone else uh christian idden in seventh and glenn erwin in ninth who's just
10:57started to find a bit of speed he's gone up to ninth through on lee jackson in fact he's just gone
11:01through on josh brooks as well yeah erwin up to eighth morning pop for early erwin and bridewell
11:07would be their lap times which is where they're going to start from in the print race it's a bit
11:11wide into shell oils there from bridewell he's still in 11th fending off rory skinner on the taz
11:16bit um for kathy
11:18there you can see erwin leading that pack the two dow racing hondas
11:24and then tommy bridewell tracking them in the background scott swan is actually closing on the
11:31group as lee jackson puts a move on his teammate that was deep down into his ease yeah uh that was
11:36uh yeah it was uh tommy capitalizes as well so it puts really the loser
11:42they're going to be there rory skinner next up potentially lap six of 18 true druids
11:53the gap out front brad ray returning to the championship that he won in 2022
11:59over the line it might be four seconds his advantage
12:04another 33.6 it is four seconds he's taken half a second every lap yep
12:14impressive at this i'll tell you and when you think about the speed as well i mean the guys behind
12:20aren't going slow yeah this would be a brilliant race if brad wasn't i mean it's a good race anyway
12:27the best race before the start of this race the best race lap we ever had was a 33.6 yeah
12:33presence doing them for fun yeah and that was bad race
12:37unreal this is right the reigning champion who at the moment is having to defend from danny kent in
12:46third who to be fair i think danny would take the third place at alton park alton and cadwell were two
12:54thorns in his side a bit last year yeah he had he freely admits he doesn't actually like riding
13:00around alton and he doesn't never sort of gel with the place doesn't feel comfortable looks
13:04comfortable to us uh he's steady enough rider knows when to take a risk and when not and it's
13:09a long season we've got in front of us this is ending up to be quite a spicy battle here for
13:14second place glennar we just got behind christian idden here they're all closing up i mean idden
13:18he's got some decent speed but glenn irwin arguably here could still be on for a podium
13:23and glenn irwin uh last lap was the second quickest lap of the race
13:26so then breaking down into lodge corner leon haslam looking at a move there on danny kent to move up
13:34into third spot but on the cut back danny kent gets back through again and that's just going to allow
13:40now charlie nez bit into the party on the master mac honda there he is number 86 and storm stacy also
13:47he just that was a uh what's the word opportunist kind of look that was that's just giving car ride
13:52a bit of breathing space as well in second place the gap out front is 4.4 this is the battle for second
13:58third on that last lap glenn irwin a 33.7 he's the fastest of this group he's matching the lap times
14:06at present of the race leader yes he is yeah
14:11shaky burn just spotting here in our conversation box this he's gone quick catching this group as well
14:16you know i mean he's got we saw yesterday he's got the speed he missed an entire session with the
14:20gearbox issue as well yesterday yeah the two yamahas out front have got wings on their bike danny kent's
14:26not would that be a personal preference or was yes it would yeah i mean the thing is the wings for
14:32me especially around a place like alton park would work in some places but not in others i mean the
14:39the thing about the british circuits is they're very different to the european kind of all the same
14:45kind of corners these are all different we're on lap eight of 18 and bradley ray and his return to the
14:50championship at this moment in time looks like he could get a cigar on the go yeah to be fair we've
14:58seen it come in uh every test i mean bear in mind they missed brad missed the take the first test at
15:03the vara because the team had folded didn't have a bike so he sat that one out so i missed two days
15:08there oh down we go christian hidden yep oh what a shame for the agn steel stock kawasaki team the fs3
15:16team he's fuming is christian hidden unfortunately both cook and hidden out and now leon haslam pounces
15:22on danny kent this is the battle for third place and storm stacy is right on terms with them as well
15:27yeah 79. storm chase has got the pace on that bathoms bmw look third in shot now
15:35power it's got some good drive there coming out of cascades as well as storm stacy this is what
15:39i didn't crash yeah down at a lodge yeah typical lodge trash lost the front end right on the apex clings
15:45onto it thereby the bike doesn't flip over and cause itself more damage but presence of mind there by
15:51christian but uh yeah not a good outcome there you can see storm stacy has managed to get back
15:57through and he's up into uh he's just got ahead of danny kent so he's up to four four face yeah couple
16:04of riders lap times have just dropped by a good half a second on lap nine of 18 is glenn erwin now
16:09makes the move on danny kent is danny kent running into a bit of trouble already yeah i think i suspect
16:14there's a little bit of tyre problem there for danny certainly no problem for storm stacy who is the man
16:20on a charge kyle ryde's got himself into a decent river the moment ray just managing this one out
16:25front yeah challenge is going to be through on danny kent any minute as well
16:33out of druids there you can see the bmw number 79 of storm yeah just just squirming the rear
16:40there coming out of druids and then again into lodge so popular is storm yeah he is yeah with lots of
16:45toppers in the paddock now i think he's doing all right with them a bit of merch going out from the
16:50the storm stacy camp breaking into old hall corner on lap 10 of 80. only one rider in the 133s on that
16:59last lap guess who you can just see there in the top left corner that's steve rogers on the left of
17:08the frame and his crew chief there mark woodage who openly admitted to me after a tough year with
17:13brooks and f8 show last year he was thinking of just packing it in sitting at home and watching yeah
17:18he's a great crew chief he is a great crew chief he's also a good engine builder he can work from
17:22his garage and and make a living so uh i believe his son grad is spannering in the garage as well yeah
17:28the motorcycle is sunk yep at the moment they're rider doing a good job so the fram that's been on
17:35mark woodage's face for a little while might be turned upside down in about eight laps time
17:40let's see this is the battle for second there's kyle ride leon haslam has just reeled him in a bit
17:44in third stacy's still there glenn erwin still got some good speed this is a good ride from glenn a very
17:49good ride he's been chipping away lap after lap yeah considering where he was on the grid if he ends up
17:56finishing on the podium that is a solid job for the first race of the season meanwhile tommy brydwell
18:03struggling can't hold on to this group i think he'll start on the front row as well
18:10my working out rudimentary would say that glenn erwin would have a front row start
18:16the the sprint race we're about to start lap 11 of 18. long race this very physical race long for the
18:22tires long for the riders brad ray with a 34.0 at this moment in time 5.2 seconds clear
18:32of uh the chasing pack into the 33s though leon haslam storm stacy and glenn erwin with also the
18:39race so far yep glenn's been on the 33 for a while but that is his fastest up of the race
18:44attempts quicker than he managed four laps ago so like here car ride's going to come under some
18:47pressure here's your race leader though into shell oils huge gap for him to try and just control and
18:53manage now right coming under intense pressure from haslam there number 91 stacy and glenn erwin
19:06the podiums are out of the way for glenn here no not at all it's definitely on the card and again
19:11we don't really know who's going to fall away danny kent's last couple of laps he's been in sort of the
19:16134s but yeah it's we should just point out that might just not necessarily be tires james it's so
19:21easy to make a mistake around here yes it is but it didn't seem to be any a specific mistake it
19:26seemed to be a just a number of corners going not quick enough really battle for the remaining points
19:32here fraser rogers at the front of it hickman of course only done a few laps there's john mcfee
19:38he's not far away from his first bsb point he's just behind kerr and mcconnell
19:48he'll be learning heaps that's the main thing for john to take away
19:52but these are the remaining points in the race davy todd had a mechanical early on so he went out of
19:58the race unfortunately yeah he's been off this weekend at the shellos hairpin and maybe it was
20:03something to do with that i know it's just put in the fastest third sector of anyone so another
20:08decent lap coming in for the harga pbs the cat and rider yep over the line we go ray leads by four and
20:15a half seconds glenn irwin with a 33.7 again good laps coming in there from storm stacy and glenn irwin
20:24here we are this is the battle car ride in second place number one in the background
20:28there glenn irwin through on storm stacy who could afford a cheeky look over his shoulder to see if
20:33there's any other company yeah lovely clean move from glenn there
20:39i know he's got a great record here the last 12 races at alton park but glenn irwin's been on the
20:44podium for 11 of yeah and i think this is gonna be a 12th it looks that way at the moment of course the
20:51treble winner here last year they're not doing it today not with the shape that brad ray is in
20:58that last lap brad ray put in a 34.6 one of his slowest laps of the race but there's never
21:05going to be any alarm bells ringing unless that gap comes down significantly he's just controlling
21:10things at the moment one would think through druids in the battle for second place car ride here
21:16he's going to be seeing plus not on his pit board every single lap and now leon haslam pounces
21:20on the mountain rapido ducati's done this before but he's run it wide does he hold it he does this time
21:26yeah this one works haslam up to second place is kyle now going to return the favor into old hall
21:31corner can't quite get through glenn irwin looks hungry there as well doesn't he he does yeah yeah
21:37fourth place
21:4033.6 from glenn irwin this is good late and consistent as well
21:47glenn's gonna try and set something up here i know he should have a little bit of a speed
21:50advantage on that ducati over the number one play hammer there you go kyle almost had to roll out
21:56yeah yeah exactly yeah let glenn through so what a job this is from glenn irwin 14th on the grid
22:01and he's now on the podium this thing stand and hunting down fellow ducati rider leon haslam
22:07on that 13 of 18 still ray leads by 4.7 seconds
22:20yeah glenn's not going to find it as easy to get past uh leon has them just because they're on the
22:25same bike should be exactly at the same speed with the same spec
22:29this is good stuff from haslam he didn't get off to the best of stars james so
22:38held out to fifth but he didn't panic himself for anything he's definitely a bit of his experience
22:42he's been quick everywhere they've gone this year
22:46not had enough for this man though yeah it's in a different league here in this 18-lap race so far
22:52and they're going to have a job in their hands to try and uh beat him tomorrow as well as storm
22:56stacy now goes through on kyle ride is kyle now running into some late tire issues you'd have to
23:02think wouldn't you stacy hungry now for that podium he's gone up into fourth place yeah it's a 34.7
23:11from kyle ride that's his slowest lap of the race so far yeah but he's been i think held up as he got
23:18passed i think i don't think that would have been a clean lap for kyle but he definitely got problems
23:24it's dead weird because he said that the tire issues that everybody was going to have he was
23:29going to manage them better than most he thought he thought they had a little bit of a plan
23:33there are some riders whose laps have just completely dropped away billy mcconnell just
23:36did a 37.3 he's fallen behind john mcfee now yeah this is charlie nesbitt up behind danny kent for
23:43six he's just put in for the races
