01:02Thank you very much.
01:32Yeah, exactly. Or a monastery.
01:33Yeah, I mean, if you're a customer and you're just, you know, on your mobile a little bit and then you get it tucked out, you're not going to go back there, are you?
01:39It's a pub, for heaven's sake. Anyway, maybe he cut off his nose to spite his face. Who knows?
01:45Possibly.

01:46Yeah.
01:47Who knows? Anyway, if you can't say a bad word occasionally and make a phone call to tell them what time you'll be home to Saturday.
01:53Yeah. That's why you go down the pub, isn't it? Have a good swear.

But don't let's put the wind up your competitor, Morgan. That's Alfie Webb. A maths student at the University of Swansea, but you're from South Wales. Whereabouts are you from?

02:35You're not a hooker. I'm a prop. You're a prop. All right. You look like a prop. How are the years coming on? They're not too bad. They're all right. Give it time. Give it time. Anyway, listen, have a lot of fun, Alfie. Thank you.
02:47And Morgan, big round of applause for our two competitors. Morgan and Alfie Webb.
02:51And Susie's over in the corner, keeping control of that renegade, comedian, novelist, well, all-rounder. It's the wonderful, beautiful Jenny Eclair. Jenny.

10:20Susie?
10:21Opusite is there, which is dark grains that you'll find in igneous rocks.
10:25But tapioca, obviously not everyone liked it, Nick,
10:28because it comes from a language that gave us squeeze out the dregs.
10:33That's the origin of it.
10:34Squeeze out the dregs.
10:35From which language?
10:37From Tupi Guarani.
10:39So South American language.

11:58Now, can we beat four, Jenny?
12:00No.
12:01I've got a satisfying four with muff.
12:05Muff.
12:06Yes.
12:07It's a good muff.
12:08I've got a muff at home.
12:09In fact, not only that, but I've got a muff warmer.
12:14I've got a muff warmer.
12:16It's early 20th century.
12:19Love a little ceramic thing.
12:21I love it.
12:22Yeah.
12:22And then you stick it in your muff.
12:23It's perfect.
12:27Keeps you warm on a chilly night.
12:28Well, I don't have a muff.
12:29I don't wear a muff.
12:31But there are.
12:34You know, ladies have got muffs, and that's where they keep their muff warmer.
12:39What can I say?
12:41What else have you got?
12:42Susie.
12:42Well, you can extend it a little bit for muffie.
12:48Oh, muffie.
12:49M-U-F-F-I-E.
12:50Scottish term for white throat is a bird.
12:53It's a warbler.

14:00Multiply by 6 is 18.
14:02Yep.
14:03Multiply by 25 is 450.
14:04450 minus 4 minus 5.
14:06Well done.
14:10And Morgan.
14:11I did it completely differently.
14:12I put 25 times 2 to give 50.
14:15Yep.
14:15Take off the 1 for 49.
14:1749.
14:18And then 5 plus 4 is 9 and times them together.

14:33That's me.
14:33What have you got for us?
14:34Oh, right.
14:35Well, it's nothing I've got for you.
14:37It's something I've got, I bought for my mother for her 90th birthday.
14:41My mother's extraordinary.
14:41She's fantastic.
14:43I bought, I didn't know what to buy her.
14:45She's 90.
14:45She's got everything.
14:46Um, so I bought her one of those, um, smart speakers.
14:50Mm-hmm.
14:50There are many different types of them anyway.
14:52Uh, I, I set it up in her, uh, her apartment and all this and she was very happy with it.
14:59And then a few weeks later I phoned up.
15:00I said, how are you getting on with your smart speaker?
15:03She said, oh, it's broken.
15:04I said, what, Alexa's broken.
15:06She said, who's Alexa?
15:08And she'd been calling this thing Edwina.
15:11Right.
15:12It had just completely ignored her.
15:14I think she thought that she could kind of call it any pet name she fancied.
15:18So now that she's realised that it's got to be that specific name, they're best friends.
15:24Living alone?
15:25Yes, yes.
15:27Um, she only stopped driving when she was 89.
15:30It was time.
15:31That's very good.
15:32That's, that's wonderful though.
15:33Yes, yes.
15:34And she's got some company in.
15:36Well, she's got her smart speaker now.
15:38Exactly.
15:38We don't visit anymore.
15:41You're very naughty, Jenny Eclair.
15:43Morgan, take us away from all this.
15:45It's your letters game.

17:04Well scored.
17:04Well scored, Alfie.
17:08Forty-five now to your thirty-eight.
17:10In the corner, Jenny and Susie?
17:13Inter.
17:14Just a six.
17:16Um, a sort of less nice anagram of enticer is enteric.
17:22Um, that's there for seven, meaning, um, occurring in the intestines.
17:25Talk about enteric dysentery, I think.
17:27Oh, right.
17:27Oh.
17:28Thank you very much.
17:29Enteric, we'll try and avoid that as best we can.
17:33Forty-five to thirty-eight.
17:34Alfie, your letters go.
17:36Can I have a consonant, please, Rachel?
17:37Thank you, Alfie.

18:58Susie's got an extra one, though.
19:01Misses, as in my missus.
19:03Misses?
19:03Yeah, that will give you a six.
19:06Is that in the dictionary?
19:07Yes.
19:07That's spelt like that?
19:08Yes.
19:08You'd be amazed what's in that dictionary.
19:10The words that come up.

20:30APPLAUSE
20:32So, still closely matched, 60 to 48, as we turn to our second Tea Time teaser, which is Hint Wound.

22:42Agendas. And agendas? Yes, both good. Well done, Alfie. Look at you. Only five behind that. 55 to Morgan's 60.
22:51But over in the corner, meanwhile... Nosegay is there as well. Sweet-smelling, bunch of flowers. Yeah.
22:58Yeah. She also got gonads. Not so sweet-smelling. No.
23:07Gonads. Oh, sorry. Nosegays. It's... I wonder how many nosegays the Queen's been given over the years that she immediately passes to somebody behind her.
23:15She gives them to hospitals and things, doesn't she? Does she? Oh, good.
23:1860 plays 55. Morgan on 60. Morgan, your letters go.
23:23I'll go for a vowel, please. Thank you, Morgan.
23:25E. And another.
23:27I. And a third.
23:30U. And a consonant.
23:33R. And another.
23:36S. And another.
23:38D. And another one.
23:41L. And a vowel.
23:44A.
23:45And a final consonant, please.
23:47A final T.
23:49Standby.
23:49A
24:12A.
24:12A.
24:13A.
24:13Yes, Morgan, I'll go for a safe seven.
24:23A safe seven, Alfie?
24:24I'll go for a safe seven as well.
24:26Now then, Morgan, dilates.
24:28Dilates and?
24:29Trailed.
24:30Trailed.
24:31Safe enough?
24:32Safe enough, you can't...
24:33Anybody braver over there?
24:36You can't put the R on dilators, if dilators, in case that's what you're wondering, Morgan.
24:40Yeah, there were a few eights there.
24:41Well, you've got a few eights.
24:44I'll bag see one of them, I'll go for residual.
24:46Very nice.
24:48Adulters are there as well, adulterers in other words, and diluters are there for eight as well.
24:53A diluter.
24:54Yeah.
24:56So only five points in here, 67 to 62.
25:00Alfie trailing only by five points as we turn to Susie and her wonderful origins of words.
25:07And today, more medicine?
25:08More medicine, yes.
25:09And inspired by Dr. Rohin Francis, who is a cardiologist, but also fascinated by language.
25:17And he does lovely round-ups of medical terminology.
25:21And what's really interesting is that you can actually decode quite a lot of the words that we use in medicine.
25:26And if you have a kind of basic understanding of parts of the body and human anatomy, you can kind of decode them a little bit.
25:31So itis means inflammation.
25:34So hepatitis, inflammation of the liver, dermatitis, inflammation of the skin, et cetera.
25:40Ad means towards or next to.
25:42And renal is to do with the kidney.
25:44So the adrenal glands is the one that produces adrenaline, and it is next to the kidney.
25:50So that's quite a nice one.
25:52Aesthesia means feeling.
25:54So paresthesia means sort of altered feeling.
25:57It's almost like you're beside yourself.
25:59So pins and needles for an example of paresthesia.
26:01Anesthesia, of course, is without feeling.
26:04In other words, it makes you completely numb to any pain.
26:08And then there's a really interesting one, like obstetrics, one for Rachel here.
26:11Obstetrics dealing with childbirth.
26:13That comes from two words, meaning standing opposite, probably because the midwife will stand at the other end of the woman who's giving birth, if you like.
26:22And orthopedics, they used to actually deal with children who had rickets and clubbed feet, et cetera, and they would sort them out.
26:29So orthopedics actually means straight children, because that was what they were producing, which I think is quite nice as well.
26:35And finally, drug names.
26:38You know, they're always quite difficult.
26:40We tend to see them as being quite alien to us, but they often have secret stories hidden within them.
26:44So morphine, you probably guess, goes back to the Roman god Morpheus, because it's a narcotic and an analgesic.
26:51Bayer, the company, quite a while ago now, realized that morphine is quite addictive.
26:57And so they brought out diacetylmorphine in 1871.
27:01They thought it was actually non-addictive at the time and to be a panacea for everything.
27:05But because the name wasn't snappy enough, they listened to patients who said it made them feel like heroes and heroin was born.
27:13So slightly sinister, that one.
27:15And codeine comes from poppy head.
27:18And there's lots and lots of things that you can decode if you just have a little bit of classical knowledge.
27:21And all medical terminology seems to be based on those classical languages.
27:25Fascinating.
27:26Thank you, Susie.
27:30As ever.
27:32Moving on now.
27:33We're in the straight here, Alfie.
27:35Letters game.
27:36Could I have a consonant, please?
27:38Thank you, Alfie.
27:39L.
27:40And another.
27:42N.
27:43And a third.
27:45V.
27:46And a fourth.
27:48T.
27:50And a vowel, please.
27:52I.
27:53And another.
27:54E.
27:56And another.

28:50I think we're all going to have a fight in the car park.
28:53A brawl.
28:54What about Susie?
28:55There was another seven there, Nick.
28:57Neolite.
28:58Neolite, a term from mineralogy for a silicate of magnesium and iron.
29:04Thanks, Jenny.
