00:00From Team Picnic post NL of going off first
00:09So we go yesterday as we can explain to the people watching at home
00:16Basically the starting line would be the opposite of yesterday finish or the GC contender since the only
00:22Read in one stage. So basically the finish line finish line. There's another man. He's gonna catch and pass Marco Brenna
00:30The German national road race champion, the Tudor Pro Cycling. He's got a lovely position on the time trial bike actually Brenna
00:35But he's no match for Ethan Hayter who has blasted two minutes off the time of Nicholas Merkel and he will go to the hot seat and he may well
00:44Sit on that hot seat for quite there's an early rest day. Here's Afini again
00:49Getting it let's hope right
00:52Oh not so much this time guys really
00:55Really leaning that bike over wasn't he lucky actually to keep it. I think that Eduardo Afini is going to
01:00Dislaunch the British rider and take his place on the hot seat
01:04But if he does by how much still has 25 seconds to get to the line
01:09That should be enough of a cushion
01:11Get the countdown ready the rider from Decathlon AG2R just finishing ahead of him
01:15Eduardo Afini this long straight. Where's that line now? Still got 13 seconds
01:21Hayter looking up Hayter beaten Eduardo Afini goes eight seconds faster the European champ the fastest man so far
01:2920 seconds to get there for the Dutch national champion
01:32Afini watching on is he going to be dislodged?
01:35My feeling is that Afini will probably hold on here by a couple of seconds
01:39Who just being undone by that descent that Afini mastered
01:44He took it home. Dan Hull is going to pull up a little bit shorter. There's not going to be much in it. Afini
01:49Afini hangs on by two seconds
01:52Well, he did everything that he possibly could there. He'll be disappointed
01:56At Dan Hull that he couldn't quite get over the line ahead of Eduardo Afini but mightily relieved
02:02It's the Italian though. He doesn't look it. Yeah, no
02:04He don't look it. At Dan Hull
02:14right well jay vine how close is he let's get the clock on him this is going to be extremely close
02:31now eduardo afini is sweating on this one i think just a little bit and he gets up to speed
02:35brilliantly quickly just get right on top of that gear probably get seated then and get those hands
02:43once again perhaps in an aero tuck or just fight the bike all the way to the line as we saw joseph
02:48cherny doing almost out of the saddle and sprinting for the line 16 seconds to go 16 13 the time to
02:54beat for eduardo afini jay vine is a live threat to that the australian is going to set the best time
03:02is he i think he's going to get there jay vine dislodges eduardo afini by three seconds no one
03:07has gone faster so far than jay vine of ue et memories and we have a new leader in the clubhouse
03:13to this man josh tarling british national champion among the outright favorites really along with
03:21jay vine along with walt van arz josh tarling primos roglic these are the men who everybody have been
03:28tipping one way or another look he's a monstrous size isn't he josh tarling yeah especially when
03:35you look at him um holding a tiny handlebar right um ruefully looking there and probably feeling this
03:43might be getting away from him josh tarling's close now still got 15 seconds to play with in this long
03:47straight in this bright sunshine is this the winning ride from josh tarling to take his first ever grand
03:54tour stage we'll have to wait and see but for now he's gone faster than anyone else josh tarling three
03:59seconds anything but here in albania juan ayuso though here we go had a difficult day yesterday
04:07coming off his bike and not sustaining any damage but at a position and ever since then it was a
04:13little bit ragged for juan ayuso it wasn't a controlled performance from him he wasn't seemingly
04:19in the right place at the right time all the time i guess
04:21all the riders pretty fresh still and here we see one of the danger for tarling for the two-day
04:30stage but also a gc contender for pink juice in uh in roma primos roglic absolutely primos roglic
04:38won his first individual time trial at a grand tour at the time to beat is 1607 for josh tarling
04:46here comes vacek it's gonna be very close indeed isn't it that tailwind he's gonna hope that that
04:51is howling at the moment tarling will be looking on anxiously five seconds to get to the line
04:55is tarling gonna hold on if he does it's gonna be by just a whisker vacek pulling up short tarling
05:01continues on the hot seat wow so vacek hampered perhaps by that very strong headwind in the final
05:08let's call it josh tarling um matthias vacek actually and roglic hold on the the best time
05:33and the intermediates uh tarling at the finish line and uh 34 second definitely is uh of contention for
05:38the victory so we better keep our focus on matt speldeson which is in our own camera yeah i think
05:44we can say
05:59sit on that hot seat for a long long time watching rider after rider threaten his time
06:05some ran him very close nobody ran him as close as primos roglic who very nearly beat
06:12tarling but other than roglic he had a comfortable advantage over everybody else in the field
06:19beating the likes of the european champion eduardo affini beating wat van hart
06:25maz pedersen and primos roglic albeit by just one second
06:30two-time british national champion former european champion
06:42stage winner this year of a world tour individual time trial at the uae tour
06:48and now as he takes a really quite big swig of the astoria sparkling wine he is a winner of a grand tour
06:55stage for the first time in his career and has made history by becoming the youngest winner
07:00of a individual time trial at the giro ever
07:03that's the top 10 a mixture of stage hunters
07:22and gc riders the likes of primos roglic and juana yuzo
07:28thinking about rome and three weeks mass pedersen in seventh place just thinking about getting
07:35through today in pink and falling agonizingly short
07:38so the race whether they might be tempted to hand it over as we often see
07:46welcome back fair enough it's been two years
07:53taking the pink jersey on stage two very different from taking it on stage 20
07:59but he did that in an individual time trial as well
08:03which he won
08:05a very different individual time trial from the one that he hasn't won today
08:10but he finished he very nearly won it instead he's rewarded with the pink jersey
08:16sure things are gonna go gonna have a lot of confidence after this time trial because
08:22he got better than anybody else of the gc contenders nearly got the victory but
08:28he got a lot of confirmation about his current shape
08:30well for for pogaccia 2024 reid roglic 2025 stage two seems to be the favored day for these
08:44supporters to celebrate a slovenian in pink it happened last year at the top of the
08:49europa sanctuary climb historic climb in the giro d'italia this year primos roglic does it
08:55in the warm sunshine of the albanian capital another day of history is written and another
09:01day in pink for primos roglic beckons the winner of the 2023 giro d'italia comes back two years
09:07later determined to do it all again and has got off to the best possible start primos roglic in the
09:13malia rosa once more
09:15you
