00:00It was a mixture of excitement and thanks, but also reflection.
00:06There was around 150 to 200 people here that gathered, some coming in on their lunch breaks.
00:13And Archbishop Anthony Fisher gave a beautiful opening message, giving thanks to the new
00:18Pope, Leo, but also talking about his missionary heart, amongst the other things that he will
00:24bring to the role.
00:24It was very moving to hear the Holy Father in his first Herbie at Herbie address, begin
00:33with Christ's Easter greeting, Shalom, Peace, and to hear him repeat the central truth of
00:41the Gospel, that God loves us without any limits or conditions.
00:46We offer this Mass for our new Holy Father, that his care-time ministry might bring the
00:55peace and love of the risen Lord, and his life-giving truth to all the people of the world.
01:03The service was then followed by songs of praise and worship, including hymns.
01:09There was moments of reflection.
01:11They spoke about different passages in the Bible and also talked more on what Pope Leo
01:17will bring to the role.
01:18And we spoke with some of the congregation members that had come out, not only from their
01:22lunch breaks, there was young and old.
01:25There was a real different group of people that came down today.
01:29Most of them excited for the new Pope, and even one man who is here from America, where
01:36his parents have a bit of a connection to the new Pope.
01:41I'll say, I'm pretty excited about it.
01:43Both of my parents and my brother go to Villanova, so they're proud.
01:47The new Pope is from Villanova, which is our hometown, so pretty exciting stuff.
01:51Like everyone, I was a bit surprised.
01:53I expected it to take a little bit longer, I think, for the decision, but yeah, I'm hoping
02:00it'll be really good for the church.
02:02I think it's fantastic news, and I think he's going to be just like Pope Francis in leading
02:11the church.
02:13And more services are going to be held throughout the weekend.
02:17Archbishop Anthony Fisher finished speaking to media, saying that he was excited to hopefully
02:23welcome the new Pope in 2028 here in Sydney.
